Becky, I am so happy that I am not the only one who, makes messes, throws away half a batch of something I’m baking, burns myself, burns cookies, cuts my fingers, makes more messes and learns to crack eggs in a separate bowl the hard way! Thank you so much for not cutting your lovely mishaps out of your videos. Makes me feel so great full for people like you

I have also had to throw a batch of cookies away but I had only added the dry ingredients. I plugged my my mixer and didn’t realize I had it on high speed 🤣 flour all over the kitchen! I had to start over. It was organic flour too so that hurt. Lesson learned though

My mom always says "El perezoso trabaja doblé". I hate that saying because translated it says the lazy one works double. However she is right. Whenever I try to cut corners things are bound to go weird. My sorry that she had to throw out so much but we really appreciate it!

You are for sure NOT alone Jenifer!! First, it should be noted that my nickname is “klutz” and has been my whole life…. Since I could walk 😬…. Probably before that even!! I’m sure I was also a klutz in my little baby walker as well 😂
So a Funny quick story….. one time, about 5ish or so years ago….. I was mixing up some homemade “cream of soup” mixes for gifts for Christmas. I was going to put them in cute antique mason jars with antique glass domed lids….. it took me forever to collect all the jars and get them all washed up! I bet it took me over a year or so of going garage sale-ing and also going to antique stores etc….. I wanted them to be super special!
So I mixed up a MASSIVE batch of this yummy (so I thought 😬) homemade “cream of soup” mix…
Now I keep my kitchen ingredients I use a lot in bulk, in large half gallon Ball glass jars….I put the labels as to what they are, on the lid.
It should also be noted that I’m fairly blind now and without my glasses, I have vision of course but it’s extremely blurry…. Especially when up close…I frequently cook in the evening when I’m super tired… and so I will be in the kitchen without my glasses…. Unless I have to do an exact measurement of something small….I often will go commando and not wear my glasses…
Not sure how it happened…. (Fairly certain it was the no glasses issue) But my baking soda and cornstarch somehow got mixed up…… I always put everything back in its place in my kitchen but the menfolk in this house, have been known to do different 😑
so I used baking soda INSTEAD of cornstarch….. which made the “cream of soup” mix EXTREMELY salty 😵‍💫😢 and rendered it unusable…. There was no fixing it…. But I didn’t know this had happened at first…….until….
Thank the LORD I used some of this batch that I was going to give as gifts for dinner that very same night…..
It ruined my dinner I was making BUT at least I figured it out BEFORE I gave it as gifts!!
I figured it out right away because the “cream of soup mix” bubbled when I added it to the meal I was making (which had a little vinegar in it) 😂😂….
      It’s funny years later…. But at first…. I wasn’t laughing…
So yes….. these things happen to me on the daily in my kitchen too!! All the things happen!!
I probably could write a book on all my silly kitchen adventures 😜

Becky, I HAVE to share this with you! My mom once served as church hostess and since we had a LARGE congregation it was quite a job. The ladies were making cakes in the church kitchen one day when one of the deacons (who was known to be a bit of a know-it-all) walked in and saw my mother cracking eggs individually into a separate bowl, just like you did. He sort of snorted as he watched my mother adding those eggs one at a time and said "Sara, what in the world are you doing?" My mom explained that sometimes you get a bad egg. That man threw his head back, roared with laughter and said he'd "never heard of such a thing." In a moment of what I guess could have been divine intervention the VERY NEXT CRACKED EGG WAS ROTTEN and it smelled! My mother couldn't have been happier! She's almost 86 years old and she still tells that story whenever someone is cracking eggs, lol.

Becky, I must tell you how much I appreciate that you don’t open with a long intro video and then carry on forever about themselves before they get to the point of their video. While you do talk about your family, your home, and other aspects of your life that you wish to share, you do so in a way that is rather chatty and conversational while carrying on with the purpose of your video. I have been following you since the beginning and have never been disappointed but frequently been inspired and educated.

It is so enduring of you to show your oopsies!! I won't be starting my baking until Friday. I do the same thing. Last year, my youngest daughter (who has since flown the coupe), baked a TON of cookies of different kinds and shipped them all over the country, coast to coast. She had some online friends that were still in some sort of lock down and there were a couple who had serious illnesses going on. It was a pain and expensive to get all of it shipped out. But, I was glad to help her. She did ALL the baking herself. Anyway, cookies and treats this time of year (especially) last year really help with peoples morale. She received things back in the mail, giftcards, letters, cards and some homemade goodies in return. She did not expect anything in return. She just wanted to cheer people up. Most said that her act of kindness made their Christmas since they were having a tough year with all that happened. So, doing this sort of thing is truly a labor of love. I can see that in you. Even though you two are very different young women, I see the spirit inside is very similar in beauty. Merry Christmas, Becky!!

Very nice to have the large sheet pans, I was so happy when I got them for myself. It makes a difference when you don't have to worry about unused space in the oven. Technically those are half-sheet pans, full sized sheet pans won't fit in a household oven. I only mention it because I buy the precut parchment paper in boxes of 500 sheets at a time and if you don't order the right size that is a lot of money wasted. I do think they are worth it though I've been on the same box for 2 years now and it will easily make it another year or two before I need another box and I don't have the curling paper issue to deal with.

Becky, the cookies from your bottom oven will be fine. Just let them cool, take your microplane grater and carefully grate off that layer of crispiness, and continue with the powdered sugar step. This will work with any cookie that gets a bit too brown on the bottom. So much easier than using a knife.

Becky, now that are you are a full time TH-cam Chef/Homesteader it’s time to treat yourself and make a business expense and get yourself the professional 6 or 7 quart Kitchenaid mixer. I love mine. I used to be a professional baker and Caterer and I had several but when I moved from Washington state back to Texas recently I downsized to just one.
I would suggest getting a multiple timer for your kitchen that’s battery powered that you can put in your pocket in case you leave the room or go outside. Also, when something gets a little too brown either cookies or toast etc.. just use your rasp grater that you use for zest or garlic and gently shave off the brown spots. Good as new!😎 Love your videos, love your energy and enthusiasm, love your family..both sides are great! I’m so happy that you get to live your dream full time now…selfishly we all get to benefit from that!
Merry Christmas and much continued success with your channel!❤️❤️

When grama would bake pies, we would take the left over dough, roll it out, spread butter on it, sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on it, roll it into a log, cut slices and bake it. Those remind my of grama’s. We called them pie crust pin wheels.

Instead of cutting off the dark bottoms of your cookies with a knife, try running them across a fine grater. Way easier. Also, I keep a wooden chopstick in my flour container to level off my measuring cups when baking, that way you don’t have to touch it. 👍🏻 Your Cookies look so good. This was such an entertaining video, Becky! From the no no of cracking the egg directly into the batter to stuffing a double batch into the KitchenAid. 😂 Those were the perfect size ginger cookies for gifts. The Palmier cookies would have puffed better, been crispier and taken less time to bake had you loosened the coils a little. I like the results better with homemade pastry (easy as pie, btw) they taste very buttery and cook all the way through. I encourage you to try it. Make 3 batches every 6 months and you're set for the year.

I have 2 or 3 cookie scoops but I found another super fast way to do the cookies. Just roll out the dough until it’s about 1/2” or 3/4” then use a pizza cutter and cut the dough into squares. Then just roll the squares into balls. So fast and easy. You might have to trial and error the thickness and square size for the proper size of cookie. But it’s very easy to eyeball it. Great video.
