Well, I´ve seen solid explanation somewhere, the reason the racing isnt as "epic" in MFG is because racers rely more on the car´s power rather than their own skills. In initial D you see insane suicidal driving, in MFG its just bunch of kids racing their sporty cars
I enjoy both, sure no one cares about fan service, but if you really watch it for the racing, ot tells a story of a young prodigy taught by the legendary Takumi Fujiwara. This is clear from his driving style.
That's why Takahashi Ryosuke created MFG. Why don't try watching MFG again. I know a bunch of them rely on power, but look forward to Kanata's pov and his team and try to read their manga.
