The suspension was raised almost 2 inches. This change was partly because of the bumper but also because of the height of the headlamps, which the US deemed too low. The US cars also had 3 wiper blades starting sometime in the 70s. We also had single carb models that were a joke. A dual SU conversion is popular.
Wire wheels are not impossible to clean, just time consuming so does not appeal to the lazy.
MGBs were converted to negative earth in 1968 and there were still two 6 volt batteries.
I may be one of the few who like the rubber bumper look, but only with certain paint colors... Red, Black and dark (not BRG) Green.

      Hi Jeff
Thanks for that. I didn’t know you could get the MGB with a two battery setup on a negative earth.
The ride height issue with the headlights and bumper level could have been properly sorted by a new suspension design but British Leyland didn’t have the funds to offer a proper solution hence raising the suspension level was what they came up with. At least this one has that fixed and in fact now rides lower than a chrome bumpered version!
The dual SU setup is way better, agreed. Which has been easily modified in this one with polishing and better air input!
I’m with you on preferring the rubber bumper styling, just not in yellow…
And you might be right about cleaning 🧽 wire wheels … personally I hate cleaning wheels when washing my cars and always leave that to the end.
Thanks for watching, spread the petrolhead word…..
