    Ahhhhh!! I was so excited to see this! Kidnapping books are my jam! I thought I was alone on this 😂 Great recommendations! I Loved Perfect Days! And I have the others you recommended on my TBR now. I read a book recently that I randomly found at my library called Seven Days by Alex Lake. It was so good! I still think about it!❤

    Berlin Syndrome is one of my favorite thriller books, mostly because of how introspective and character driven it is. I keep re-reading it to discover all these easter eggs and foreshadowing before the kidnapping.
    Stolen is pretty brutal for a YA book!
    One of my other favorites is Mary Kubica's The Good Girl. It has a jaw-dropping twist in the end and the rest of the plot is also pretty gripping!

      Yeah Stolen was super intense for YA. And yes Berlin is a good character study

    Eleven Hours by Paullina Simons is one of my favorites in the kidnapping genre, along with Welcome to Xanadu by Nathaniel Benchley. Of the titles you recommend, I am very interested in Creep. I keep coming back and adding to this, but a subject I've been extremely interested in that I think goes along with this is the missing person kind of mystery. The Overnight Guest by Heather Gudenkauf is really good. Chevy Stevens has written a couple of books about either missing or kidnapped women, Still Missing being one of them. I think it is turning out that I am much more interested in this subject than I thought I was.

    Pretty Girls by Karen Slaughter is a good kidnapping/thriller. I don't remember if you've talked about or read it though.

    I haven't read "The collector" I just saw the movie with Terence Stamp, it creeaped me out the first time. It's very well done.

    I thought I was the only one who had a fascination with kidnapping books! I’ve read every non fiction one ever made. Have you seen the BBC mini series Thirteen with Jodie Comer? It’s a great look at the family and friends of a kidnap victim and trying to get back to a normal life when everyone has changed.
    I liked Finding Claire Fletcher as well. I read it last year.

    • @TheShadesofOrange
      @TheShadesofOrange  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Have you read Room? I haven't but i saw the movie and it was fantastic! Also for YA you could try The Cellar by Natasha Preston. Loved it. Or The Butterfly Garden. It sounds like the John Fowles book. The Trap by Katherine Howard was really good, although the kidnapping part isn't a big part of the story. Well, it is, but not on page.

    Yay! I'm so excited for more kidnapping book recommendations (that doesn't sound right but oh well 😂). I recently finished The Quiet Tenant based on your review a weeks ago. It was a great read, I flew through it. Thanks for the recommendations! I'll check these out.

    👤👀🫂 Hi Rachel. These all sound so compelling. Do you have any recommendations involving kidnappings from family/close friends versus a stranger?

    • @TheShadesofOrange
      @TheShadesofOrange  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can't think of one. I know they are more common but the novels tend to focus on strangers

    hi Rachel! you may not even know Strange Sally Diamond is a kidnapping story. that's left out of most reviews because it's kinda spoilery (sorry!)... I liked it a lot. As with most of Nugent's books the genre is hard to pin down, but she is a great storyteller of dark fiction.

    yes the collector is fowles' most famous book and I remember truman capote saying it would have been perfect except for the second part I could recommend vladimir by julia may jonas about a woman whose professor husband is being accused of harassment by some female students but she soon becomes infatuated with vladimir a young visiting academic on campus which leads to kidnapping and other mayhem also seem to recall u don't like dean koontz but his novel intensity is very good simply as a straight thriller finally the room by emma donogue was one of the most well known recent kidnapping books based on a famous case but haven't read it and understand it got some pretty bad reviews⚛😀
