06:30 This is arguably one of the most important scenes in this entire show. The Lan sect’s headband symbolises restraint. So for someone to take off your headband, it means they are freeing you of the restraint that comes with being crushed under 3000+ rules. All LWJ’s life, his identity has been shaped around these rules. These rules control him, dictate everything about himself right down to the way he should THINK. Because of these restraints, he was not used to being able to make his own judgements on people or situations, relying instead on what the rules say he should think, for example, that one must not associate with ‘evil’ people, that one mustn’t stray from the orthodox cultivation path. But it is WWX that takes off LWJ’s headband. Sure, he literally removes it from LWJ’s forehead, in the earlier episodes, but it goes deeper than that. LWJ’s character arc revolves heavily around himself learning to judge situations himself, allowing himself to question right and wrong, and making his own decisions. Which is exactly what the Lan clan DOESN’T want him to do. But it is WWX that makes LWJ question whether the rules that he’d been relying on his whole life are really correct. It’s WWX that makes LWJ question the morality of people around him, what is orthodox, how do you define right and wrong, if it really is right to just go along with what the rest of the world says to avoid the harder decision to do the right thing. This scene, where LWJ lets go of the umbrella and embraces the rain, is him stepping out of the comfort of the rules he has followed all this time, and facing the reality. The umbrella symbolises the rules, and he is rejecting them, instead admitting that everyone is wrong, that WWX is NOT evil, and is the only one who has the courage to do the right thing, even if it means he is antagonising himself in front of the entire cultivation society. LWJ could have just listened to his uncle. That would have been the easy thing to do, and he wouldn’t need to be punished. But here he steps aside for WWX, he is actively making the choice to go against what he has been taught and doing what he thinks is right. And THAT is what it means to take off someone’s headband. WWX liberated LWJ, made him open his eyes and gave him the strength to stand up for what he believes, which he does after WWX resurrects. This is such a powerful concept, and this scene captures that perfectly. Hats off to everyone involved in making this story.

@Von Staufenberg However, I think that you must also consider the fact that he is a clan leader. if he were to go against the 4 major clans, it would mean his own clan would be outcasted. Therefore, when his clan is in trouble, the four major clans are less likely to come to their aid. So although he is flawed, I believe he is also thinking of his clan as well, instead of just himself.

His personality is naturally like madam Yu, he is not that flexible type, and he also has too much responsibility to take as a clan leader. I don't even think he is envious, although his mother tried to make him treat WWX like a servant, he still treats him like his real brother, and always worried about him, I don't think much people can do this like he. What's more, WWX never told him anything that he suffered, because he couldn't. Then how could JC know and understand him?

JC is a good enough leader and brother. Even the reason why he lost his golden core is to protect WY and his sis to be caught by Wen Chao, and he never told anyone. For a person like JC, that is always his pain point that WY left his clan and didn't protect his always by his side promises. But when he has known WY gave his golden core to him, he just let that obsessiveness go. So, really, he is not a "damaged goods", he is a pure person, in a different way with WY. @@ansatsusama Sorry for the late reply. I read the Chinese novel so I'm pretty sure he married her after she killed the sect elder. (I also went back to reread that part). He did it out of love but also to save her from anyone who would want to get revenge for the sect elder who died. The elder she killed was one of his teachers. His decision also forced him to seclude/ostracize himself from the world to "train" but in reality, to repent. Which is why Lan Qi Ren was tasked with raising and teaching the kids.
I feel so crushed about Wei Ying and his speech about being Lan Zhan's enemy, and to be killed by him, crushed my heart. I was so proud of the girl defecting from Jin Clan. I was like, at least she stood up for what was right, when it wasn't easy, it was painful and she did it anyway.

And girl yes, so many heartbreaking things happened in this ep but I could NOT forget Wei Ying asking Lan Wangji to kill him on the battlefield if it came to that, I just kept whimpering to my screen "as if he could kill you, Wei Ying!" God just a tiny taste of what Wangji had to endure for so many years, having Wei Wuxian believe fervently that Wangji didn't like him and didn't trust him.

I'm upset with that too... But I understand JC's position in the story. He nearly lost all hope after losing his golden core, but when WWX sacrificed his core, JC was thrilled and worked hard to become a clan leader. He's still very young at this point, so I would imagine how hard it would be to stuck in the middle of all of this political and war shit. Plus, he's got his family to worry about as well. The guy just needs someone to slap some sense to him and give him a hug so he would stop blaming WWX 😩💨

I heard they had to downplay their relationship due to censorship but honestly, this might be even better than in the novel. And if you ask me, it's close to impossible to NOT see how in love Lan Zhan is. Hats off to the producers. I fall in love with this masterpiece more with each episode. 😍

I do agree that the drama is wonderful and that the producers and Wang Yibo all did a fantastic job at portraying LZ’s emotions, but I still think that the novel is better. I may be biased because we have actual WangXian kisses and romantic scenes, but the way the author wrote LZ’a character is, to me, the best ever.

I feel that LanZhan before meeting weiyin was sure, sure of everything he knew, everything he learn , sure of what to do and what not to do, and that after meeting him he began to doubt because weiyin always showed him that there was another way, another perspective, taught him to question everything he knows for things he does not know and that's why he was in fear..
Lan Zhan uncle sees the world in black and white, yes and no. He raised Lan Zhan to think the same way. Now Lan Zhan is discovering in the real world outside the clan is many different shades of gray. That the truth often is a matter of perspective. The victor writes the history.
When Lan Qiren asked Wangji if he remembered his dad's lesson, he was warning him against falling in love with a traitor just like Wangji's dad did before him. IIRC, in the novel, Lan Qiren specifically raised his nephews not to be like their father who died crazy in love with their mother. We all know Wangji ends up falling deeply in love with Wei Wuxian, the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation anyway. 😉

I feel so bad for JC in this episode... he's being pressured and manipulated by all the people pretending to be "good", and he can't directly leave the way Mianmian and Lan Zhan did because he's a clan leader and his commitment to his clan got in the way. He's young and already has a bad temper, and all the added stress makes it worse. Plus, he doesn't know exactly why WWX is behaving the way he is, which adds confusion to all the pressure and stress he's already feeling. Then, he's pressured to talk with WWX, which, given all the stuff he's feeling, makes it so that they can't communicate properly at all. idk i just feel so bad for him

These clan leaders esp the Jin clan leader and his sidies were instigating Jiang Cheng further against WWX knowing that he already has some insecurities regarding his dad's treatment towards them plus the fact that he's a newly made clan leader so he's bound to be a bit clueless and inexperienced so making him feel like his clan, and by extension him, will become a joke or looked down upon by the others because of WWX's wayward ways etc. if he doesn't stop him. JC is really in a hard place, he loves WWX but can't help but feel insecurities towards him due to their constant comparison since their childhood (like siblings are usually compared lol) and plus he has added responsibilities as a clan leader now, so he can't act the way he wants, he has to act like what everyone else want him to. On one hand WWX causes trouble for him but on the other he's also done so much for JC so he's really tormented. Lol i can see what he's feeling and why he acted the way he did.

Honestly, I thought for a while now what it is about this show that makes me come back and re-watch it everytime I finish it. I finally realized it, after watching his episode for I feel like the 100th time... The characters are so special. I feel like in every other drama They talk big about being in love but still act selfishly, but here no one says it, because there's no need to. Everytime lan Zhan laughs, he laughs because of wei Ying, everytime he cries, he cries for him. None of his actions is motivated by egoistic motives, and actually neither are his emotions. This really is the purest form of love.
"...I don't want you to repeat your father's tragedy..." And that's the moment for Lan Zhan to give up his principles, break any rules and stand up for Wei Ying. He sacrifices himself for his one and only love.
OMG my third time rewatching and i just realized Wei Ying told Lan Zhan: either let me go or kill me Tears..... my heart is in pieces for Lan Zhan [copied from dramabeans] : Wei says If he has to die, he would rather fight Lan Zhan now. Better to die in his hands😭😭 Lan Zhan felt as his heart was seared with a hot iron. He cannot believe his ears. He would never. These same hands which will only and support Wei Ying. Never. Yet he has never felt more hopeless. He looks down, heart aching with what is to come and takes a step back. He moves to the side, casting his eyes to the ground. It is only after the sound of the hooves grew faint that Lan Zhan raises his head and stares into the distance. What is this pain that’s tearing his insides? He can’t..hold it back any longer. He drops his umbrella and lifts his face to meet the pouring rain. Can it wash away his pain? .......................................................... In my opinion, I think there are so many reasons why Lan Zhan put the umbrella down and let the rain wash over his face.. One of the main ones being that from here on Lan Zhan is introduced to the true "orthodox way" by Wei Wuxian... He had been introduced to it before but here he decides to accept it fully. Before meeting Wei, he was always trained by his uncle seeing things in black or in white only but Wei Ying, especially here, opens his eyes to the real truth and frees him from everything else

Tremendo la actuación de Yibo y Xiao, ambos en sus respectivos papeles. Los sentimientos a flor de piel...imposible no sentir el corazón apretado...no importa las veces que vea The Untamed.

During that meeting his facial expression was mostly angry because it was about Wei Wuxian, while on other meetings or gatherings in the past his facial expression was always more neutral. AND he also talked for the first time during these types of big meetings, to defend Wei Ying He also cried for the first time I think in this episode
The fact that you can visibly see the actor actually tear up, and they didn't just cut to a scene of the tear rolling down the cheek (since that can be done with eye drops) really made the scene so memorable. My heart broke seeing Lan Zhan tearing up watching Wei Ying leave.

06:30 This is arguably one of the most important scenes in this entire show.
The Lan sect’s headband symbolises restraint. So for someone to take off your headband, it means they are freeing you of the restraint that comes with being crushed under 3000+ rules.
All LWJ’s life, his identity has been shaped around these rules. These rules control him, dictate everything about himself right down to the way he should THINK. Because of these restraints, he was not used to being able to make his own judgements on people or situations, relying instead on what the rules say he should think, for example, that one must not associate with ‘evil’ people, that one mustn’t stray from the orthodox cultivation path.
But it is WWX that takes off LWJ’s headband. Sure, he literally removes it from LWJ’s forehead, in the earlier episodes, but it goes deeper than that. LWJ’s character arc revolves heavily around himself learning to judge situations himself, allowing himself to question right and wrong, and making his own decisions. Which is exactly what the Lan clan DOESN’T want him to do. But it is WWX that makes LWJ question whether the rules that he’d been relying on his whole life are really correct. It’s WWX that makes LWJ question the morality of people around him, what is orthodox, how do you define right and wrong, if it really is right to just go along with what the rest of the world says to avoid the harder decision to do the right thing.
This scene, where LWJ lets go of the umbrella and embraces the rain, is him stepping out of the comfort of the rules he has followed all this time, and facing the reality. The umbrella symbolises the rules, and he is rejecting them, instead admitting that everyone is wrong, that WWX is NOT evil, and is the only one who has the courage to do the right thing, even if it means he is antagonising himself in front of the entire cultivation society. LWJ could have just listened to his uncle. That would have been the easy thing to do, and he wouldn’t need to be punished. But here he steps aside for WWX, he is actively making the choice to go against what he has been taught and doing what he thinks is right.
And THAT is what it means to take off someone’s headband. WWX liberated LWJ, made him open his eyes and gave him the strength to stand up for what he believes, which he does after WWX resurrects. This is such a powerful concept, and this scene captures that perfectly. Hats off to everyone involved in making this story.

I called bull on that while reading the novel cause if that was so, how do you explain the existence of Wang Ji and his brother? lol But it's true that she lived like a prisoner in a secluded part of their mountain, and little wangji was only allowed to visit his mother once a month, waiting outside her doors. He continued to do so even after her death, because he was too young to comprehend why he wouldn't be able to see his mother anymore. My heart broke reading that part

@@ansatsusama Sorry for the late reply. I read the Chinese novel so I'm pretty sure he married her after she killed the sect elder. (I also went back to reread that part). He did it out of love but also to save her from anyone who would want to get revenge for the sect elder who died. The elder she killed was one of his teachers. His decision also forced him to seclude/ostracize himself from the world to "train" but in reality, to repent. Which is why Lan Qi Ren was tasked with raising and teaching the kids.
I feel so crushed about Wei Ying and his speech about being Lan Zhan's enemy, and to be killed by him, crushed my heart. I was so proud of the girl defecting from Jin Clan. I was like, at least she stood up for what was right, when it wasn't easy, it was painful and she did it anyway.

The guy just needs someone to slap some sense to him and give him a hug so he would stop blaming WWX 😩💨

I heard they had to downplay their relationship due to censorship but honestly, this might be even better than in the novel. And if you ask me, it's close to impossible to NOT see how in love Lan Zhan is. Hats off to the producers. I fall in love with this masterpiece more with each episode. 😍

I do agree that the drama is wonderful and that the producers and Wang Yibo all did a fantastic job at portraying LZ’s emotions, but I still think that the novel is better. I may be biased because we have actual WangXian kisses and romantic scenes, but the way the author wrote LZ’a character is, to me, the best ever.

I feel so bad for JC in this episode... he's being pressured and manipulated by all the people pretending to be "good", and he can't directly leave the way Mianmian and Lan Zhan did because he's a clan leader and his commitment to his clan got in the way. He's young and already has a bad temper, and all the added stress makes it worse. Plus, he doesn't know exactly why WWX is behaving the way he is, which adds confusion to all the pressure and stress he's already feeling. Then, he's pressured to talk with WWX, which, given all the stuff he's feeling, makes it so that they can't communicate properly at all. idk i just feel so bad for him

These clan leaders esp the Jin clan leader and his sidies were instigating Jiang Cheng further against WWX knowing that he already has some insecurities regarding his dad's treatment towards them plus the fact that he's a newly made clan leader so he's bound to be a bit clueless and inexperienced so making him feel like his clan, and by extension him, will become a joke or looked down upon by the others because of WWX's wayward ways etc. if he doesn't stop him. JC is really in a hard place, he loves WWX but can't help but feel insecurities towards him due to their constant comparison since their childhood (like siblings are usually compared lol) and plus he has added responsibilities as a clan leader now, so he can't act the way he wants, he has to act like what everyone else want him to. On one hand WWX causes trouble for him but on the other he's also done so much for JC so he's really tormented. Lol i can see what he's feeling and why he acted the way he did.

Honestly, I thought for a while now what it is about this show that makes me come back and re-watch it everytime I finish it.
I finally realized it, after watching his episode for I feel like the 100th time... The characters are so special.
I feel like in every other drama
They talk big about being in love but still act selfishly, but here no one says it, because there's no need to. Everytime lan Zhan laughs, he laughs because of wei Ying, everytime he cries, he cries for him. None of his actions is motivated by egoistic motives, and actually neither are his emotions.
This really is the purest form of love.

In my opinion, I think there are so many reasons why Lan Zhan put the umbrella down and let the rain wash over his face.. One of the main ones being that from here on Lan Zhan is introduced to the true "orthodox way" by Wei Wuxian... He had been introduced to it before but here he decides to accept it fully. Before meeting Wei, he was always trained by his uncle seeing things in black or in white only but Wei Ying, especially here, opens his eyes to the real truth and frees him from everything else

Este capítulo debe ser uno de los más impactante...tremendo y doloroso. Dos formas de ver la vida se enfrentan, uno representa las antiguas enseñanzas, el apego a las reglas que durante cientos de años marcaron su vida y el otro, un ser con un espíritu indomable, transgresor, con un sentido de la justicia, la defensa del más débil por encima de todos, fiel a sus ideales, sin demostrar remordimiento ante las decisiones tomadas porque lo importante es tener su conciencia y su corazón en paz.
Y no es que Lan Zhan no comparta esos mismos valores...Pero que difícil es estar en el lugar de Lan Zhan. Dividido entre la lealtad a su clan y el gran amor representado en esa lágrima que se desplaza por su rostro, por Wei Ying. No son necesarias las palabras...Lo deja ir y tras él va su alma, su corazón y su espíritu. En el fondo sabe que Wei Ying tiene razón.
Aún no está preparado para tomar la gran decisión, le falta sentir que lo pierde para hacer lo que es correcto para su corazón. Es tan frágil la línea entre el bien y el mal.
Esta serie te hace cuestionarte y de qué manera.
Por otra parte el patriarca Yiling demuestra nuevamente del material de que está hecho. Nadie lo entiende. Porque nadie sabe su sacrificio. Ya no podrá demostrar su cultivo por medio de la espada...no tiene otra opción...andar solo por el camino de un solo tablón. Su expresión "prefiero ser asesinado en tus manos...eso valdría la pena", morir en manos del ser amado...sintetiza todo lo que no se dice.
Tremendo la actuación de Yibo y Xiao, ambos en sus respectivos papeles. Los sentimientos a flor de piel...imposible no sentir el corazón apretado...no importa las veces que vea The Untamed.

The actor from Lan Zhan is so good?? During that meeting his facial expression was mostly angry because it was about Wei Wuxian, while on other meetings or gatherings in the past his facial expression was always more neutral. AND he also talked for the first time during these types of big meetings, to defend Wei Ying

The fact that you can visibly see the actor actually tear up, and they didn't just cut to a scene of the tear rolling down the cheek (since that can be done with eye drops) really made the scene so memorable. My heart broke seeing Lan Zhan tearing up watching Wei Ying leave.

Es conciente de los sacrificios que hace, también tiene algunas fallas como poner los asuntos externos por sobre su vida. Es tan PURO QUE DUELE.
