    You found a super nice Super A. Not many left that have operable shutters. I'm in the middle of rebuilding a pair of Super AVs that had been sitting for goodness knows how long. I have both of them finally running (and braking) again but still lots to do to get the hydraulics fully functioning. And both need painting. One suggestion I have frequently heard about Super As and AVs: a wheel weight on the right rear wheel will help a bit with stability. Won't fully counteract the engine offset to the left, but makes them a bit less tippy. Enjoy!

    nice super a inspite of some wear. looks to have been well used but also well kept. im currently restoring a 51 super a. taking it almost down to the last bolt. inspiring to see one running as mine hasn't run in many years. getting the crank turned now. hope to get motor back together and running by Christmas lol. thanks for your video.

    I have a Super AV and mine did the same. thing there is a half gear with a keyway and the gear wears where the keyway is I put a new gear in mine and that fixed it

      I improved the situation some by replacing the steering shaft with a better worm gear, but yes I will have to pull the axle someday to replace that half gear. It sounds like a big job so I'm not in a rush.

    Let me know if you want to get that steering spot on! My Super A was steering from about 12 to 6 easy, now it has virtually no play at all. These are great tractors!

    • @AntiqueCarsandStuff

      Yes, I love this Super A! I don't have the space to remove the front end at the moment, but I will be tackling that in the future. I saw you have a couple videos on this repair?

    • @bourbonbeertractorsandprep9335
      @bourbonbeertractorsandprep9335 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AntiqueCarsandStuff yeah it was really bad ! I found that the keyway play at the sector shaft and gear being raised slightly and replaced with a new one helped, welding new points on the sector gear wear the steering arm slides on eliminating any side to side play as well as welding the notch in the sector shaft where the bolt attaches the steering arm eliminating the up and down play. New bearings helped but weren't actually too bad for being originals. The steering shaft you replaced was definitely worn bad and will be absolutely be perfect after! Btw You have a beautiful setting and a great shop brother!

      Thanks for the info. I plan to keep this SA so I’ll plan that repair for sometime in the future. I love my little shop but it’s full! No complaints about that though. I enjoy my toys. It’s my happy place. :)

    Typical IH gear noise, I've added Lucas Oil Additive to quiet gear noise down. Plus it extends oil life.

    Great video, I really like that tractor.
    But now for the important stuff, where’s the prime rib buffet?

    That front axle looks like it’s an industrial super A? Or only just a industrial front axle?

    • @AntiqueCarsandStuff
      @AntiqueCarsandStuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it is a standard Super A with an industrial front axle.

    I wouldn’t fret about that fear noise too much as every IH I’ve ever owned sounded like that. You changed the transmission oil and once you get the final drive oil is done, you’re good to go. They all look like baby poop when you drain them

    Your tractors look great. I seen you change the oil in the rear end. Did you change the oil in the bull gear? Keep up the TLC on the old red iron. Great job.

      Thanks. I checked the oil in a previous video and it was good!

    You have to pull the axle to get that half gear out

  • @williamwallace7299

    Why didn’t you replace the mating gear in the steering box?

    • @AntiqueCarsandStuff
      @AntiqueCarsandStuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a big job for another day. The entire front axle has to come off. The steering is satisfactory now, after the worm gear change, so it isn't a big priority at this time.

      Glad to hear that. I’m looking forward to your Cub videos coming up. In the next couple of years I’m going to rebuild my great grandfather’s’57 cub so any info would be great. I like how methodical and thorough are are in your work.

    They are known for that some people put a heavier gear oil in it

    I’m pretty sure they take non detergent oil……. The rod bearings might let you know soon.

    • @AntiqueCarsandStuff

      The only engines I run non-detergent oil in are those without oil filters.
