Yay!!! The BBC version is cool but I grew up watching this version with the American voice actors and this Jardis voice actress is just over the top and I LOVE IT!! Her line deliveries are the ones me and my sisters memorize and still use to this day! Thanks so much for posting this. I've been looking for ages for this version!
Watching the 2005 film now and had to look for this. Totally agree, the White Witch actress nails it 😂 and my siblings and I also still refer back to her lines well over 20 years after watching this version a crazy amount of times when we were kids. We had it recorded on vhs back in the day, so great to be able to watch it again!
Feature films were like that a lot. Opening scenes are very detailed but as the story goes on movement and timing and even just general drawing quality will suffer as teams of animators tried to make deadlines.
All props to the original voice actress, who gave a very solid performance, but this is the performance that I grew up watching, and the scream of “In that knowledge, despair and DIIIEEEEEE!!!” is much stronger in this version.
1:16:31 to 1:17:07 I cried! I know I already watched the 2005 version and also cried (& I know I'm only 22), but this old movie part made me cry more because of how symbolic it was to see Aslan and the girls play chase as the flowers bloomed all around them! It made me imagine that if me and my younger sister were to go to heaven and reunite with our mom, we would turn back into little kids and play chase with her (in the same way Lucy and Susan did with Aslan) over a field of flowers that our mom loved to grow.
R.I.P. Dick Vosburgh (1929-2007) (Professor), Victor Spinetti (1929-2012) (Mr. Tumnus), Stephen Thorne (1935-2019) (Aslan) and Beth Porter (1942-2023) (Jadis) (The White Witch).
I was only 15 years old when I saw this on the 700 hundred Club back in 1979. Good memories. The late 60s thru the 70s were my great years growing up. I wish time would had stay still. In those times.
1:11:47 Jadis' scream is so feral and maniacal, huge props to Beth Porter as I believe she was her voice actor in this version. Now that's what I imagine the last Queen of Charn would sound like
I remember this used to air often on the Disney Channel. Every single time it played, I begged my parents to let me stay up so that I could watch it until the end.
WHAT A WONDERFUL CLASSIC! I remember that special when I was a kid and before Disney made a different version of that classic Christian book. For this animated special, it's wonderful to rewatch it to gain my childhood charm again. THANKS FOR UPLOADING IT!
26:56, Edmund- Shouldn't we be bearing more to the left? That is if we're aiming for the lamp post. Peter- Lamp post? So, you really were here. I would give Peter his detective badge for figuring out Edmund's lie. If Edmund was never in that wardrobe, how did he know where the lamp post was?
And here I thought my six-year-old self fever-dreamed Evil Arnold from the Magic School Bus pigging out on pink Valentine's Day candy, courtesy of Queen Natasha DeVille. :V
Thanks for posting this version of this video. I grew up with this version. I have also read the book version. The lion the witch and the wardrobe is my favourite book of the Narnia series. I first watched at my cousins when I was a kid. Brings back lovely memories 🙂❤ been looking 4 this version 4 ages.
I first encountered this story when the teacher started reading it to the class. I was about 5 and as soon as I got home I nagged and nagged and nagged my parents to buy me the book. They did, and I was so excited. I've loved Narnia ever since.
Love this charming telling of the story. I must of watched it for the first time at Christmas time because it always reminds me of that time of the year.

Tbh, when I saw this version of it, it scared me. But I loved it. Even as a simple cartoon the voices of surreal and serious. Did not disappoint me 💯💯🤩
I know the characters are supposed to be British, but I actually prefer the American dub, and I think they did a better voice acting job here than in the UK dub.
I definitely and fondly recall watching this special when it first aired. I was captivated; it was the first time I recall being so totally engrossed in a story, until I saw Watership Down.
I have this on vhs, from when I was a kid. I used to watch this at least once a month if not more. Now I like using it to sleep. Puts me back to being a kid again
20:55 The Dwarf cracks me up in this scene!! LOL! "Nasty Stories!" 49:01 This is my favorite scene. It was a let down the film omitted it. Thank you for posting this great classic! 🦫🤎
THANK YOU for posting the American version!!! Nothing against the British but this version IS my childhood! Remember watching it on TV (brought to you by Little Debbie Snack Cakes).
I didn't even know this existed! I knew about the 1988 BBC series and a variety of audio play/book adaptations, and the newer movies. Interesting that this was directed by Peanuts director Bill Melendez (also voice of Snoopy/Woodstock if I remember correctly)
There's something I really love about this type of animation and sound design. It's a potent mix of professional and television awkwardness that works for me, especially the expressions and foley design. When the characters get angry, you can see it, and the use of silence and natural sounds adds some strange realism. But that's just me. Grew up to this version but never really appreciated it.

Yeah I was looking through all of the other ones on TH-cam, and it sounded different, but now I finally found the right one!
Agreed! The witch and the dwarf's hilarious vocalizations are the reason I love this version the most!

@@Jaspyboy I didn't know that they had made a cartoon version of the book.
Beth Porter. She was gloriously over-the-top. Stephen Thorne is perfect as Aslan, too.
This was the first version I ever saw of this story!! It certainly brings back childhood memories!! God bless you!!❤
This is such a mixture of good and bad animation. I love it.
As much as I love this cartoon, I am struggling to find the good animation you are referring to!!
@@radicalpaddyo Your comment of course is quite animated, if I may be so bold.🍻😂
Feature films were like that a lot. Opening scenes are very detailed but as the story goes on movement and timing and even just general drawing quality will suffer as teams of animators tried to make deadlines.
@@radicalpaddyoI think I would classify the animation during Edmund's evil moments and Jadis' temper tantrums as "so bad, it's good."
I've never forgotten this!
It was the very first thing I ever "tape-recorded" off the TV.
This is the version I grew up with. I love it.❤️❤️❤️❤️
The classic, just found this on random. Thank goodness I did, this is pleasantly good. Old cartoons can be entertaining even now.
YESSSS!!!! FINALLY!!! The voices I remember! The White Witch Is the ultimate and only.
This is the version I grew up with!
Grateful.
Glory to God!
All props to the original voice actress, who gave a very solid performance, but this is the performance that I grew up watching, and the scream of “In that knowledge, despair and DIIIEEEEEE!!!” is much stronger in this version.
I miss the golden years of animation.

Yes thats how heaven looks like, movies show that a lot. And The 2005 version is divine, watched it like crazy during easter

her voice certainly evil. Aslan's deep voice sounds kind, friendly and Intelligent
Haven't seen this since I was like 6 years old back in 89. Thank you!
I taped this on VHS back in the 80's and I still have the tape
I seriously must have watched this a few hundred times when I was a kid. It's great to come across it again on here. Thanks!
I remember watching this in the mid 80s as a kid. Great Memories.
Edmund's facial expressions at the beginning are incredibly meme worthy lmao
Fuck memes.
I remember being engrossed in this as a kid..it had such a lasting impact on my impressionable little mind.

This has the original voices of the characters, for some reason they changed the voices when they put the movie on DVD, and I really don't know why.
They did it because it takes place in the UK, so British voices make more sense. With that said, I prefer the original voices too.
