  • 2015 SCCA National Championship Runoffs race
    Daytona International Speedway
    Spec Racer Ford
    Driver: Denny Stripling
    SEI Motorsports/Lightspeed Motorsports
    Check out the action as Denny Stripling pilots the SEI Motorsports SRF into battle at Daytona for the national championship race. We started 5th in a 40 car field and ended up in a two car battle for the championship. I won't spoil the outcome, but make sure you hang around for the final lap (it's a highlight video). The championship was decided by 48 thousandths of a second so make sure you check it out.
    Enjoy!

    Your videos and racing skills are awesome to watch. SRF is such a great class. Watching your vids always reminds me of how much fun I had over 10 years ago while being a young crew chief and mechanic for C. Peter Pope. Thanks for making these and sharing.

      +Steven Barnette thanks Steven! I have a picture of me on track near C. Peter from back in the day (about 12 years ago) so you might have been on his crew at the time.

      +Hayden Dervalis Ha, yep. That was the retirement race for that helmet (SA10 rated) and about a year ago the aero strip came off so I taped it back on rather than risk degradation due to non-standard glue on the helmet. It worked out ok, just didn't look too sharp in the video. :)

    Great race! Thanks for posting--my internet was acting up when it was live. After watching some of your other races, I have become a fan. Too bad about the final outcome, but you gave it all you had. It was obvious early on your motor was down on power, but your driving almost pulled it out. Nice job!

    Great racing and congrats on the podium finish. I enjoy all your videos. I'm one of those SCCA workers you'll find when you're flying around some of the Texas tracks. Wave when I show you the checkered!

    Great race craft by both of you. From my years of watching restrictor plate races in NASCAR, do you think if you had pulled away from him (by going up the racetrack) after you had passed his front bumper that it would have made a difference? I noticed that as soon as you pulled out in front and took the brunt of the air, he closed up quickly. I think that's termed "side drafting".

    • @Racer_X
      @Racer_X  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +computiNATEor Excellent observation. Had we been dead even on power then I would have had more momentum when I popped on him. In that case I would have done exactly what you describe in order to hit him in the face with a wall of air resistance. I had tried that earlier in the race twice and lost 1-2 car lengths both times so I knew that wasn't going to work this time. With the anemic amount of momentum that I did have, I needed to stay in the side draft as long as possible in order to maximize my slight advantage. If I could get ahead of him I was going to drift in front of him, forcing him to cross me uphill. Unfortunately I didn't quite make it far enough to get fully past him. Then his motor took over (including the advantage of the side draft) and he just drove back by me. In short, your strategy was exactly right if we had been even. Thanks for watching and posting!

    Through the whole vid I thought the grip fairy had blessed you more. I was waiting for you to hang back well before the chicane and just MPH him out onto the bowl. Oh and good race BTW... both of you.

    So why was it that you were down on speed on the straights? Did you just have an older engine than the guy in front?

      yeah, one of the best vids of real life racing i think :)

    • @Racer_X
      @Racer_X  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Jesperoni Yep, I suspect that's it. The motors are all very similar but he has a known very good one (fully legal, just the best of the best) and mine was another driver's back-up motor that I bought used at the track earlier this season (VIR) when my motor expired. I could have spent more money and had it freshened up but my budget didn't allow for that. Thanks for watching and posting!
