What a storybook ending that would've been if he'd won the championship in '09.

The Hanes 500 and Mello Yello 500s of 1992 are up now so you could update this thing.

This brings joy to my heart. He was my favorite driver when I was little but I only ever remember him winning once when I was watching. I’m happy to know he won more than I thought 😊

My favorite driver when I was growing up. His Valvoline car was one of my favorite schemes.

I started watching nascar in 1997 and became a Martin fan pretty quick. Then in 98 he had probably his best year ever, his back luck was that Gordon was just out of this world that season.

If Mark drove the 55 full time he would've won New Hampshire 2013 as well

    Regarding Watkins Glen,
Mark Martin Spun out on the final lap in 1992; so he could have won 4 in a row at the Glen!

And he just had super bad luck and timing all the time. He was probably the fastest driver ever. He proved that on IROC

I always wondered why nascar has set field of 43 in sprint, is it because of the king, or is it that they used to run 40 and dale earnhardts legacy made it 3 more, or some other reason that is totally un related

Even when Sr. was alive the field was more than 40 cars. Some tracks it was limited to under 40 due to smaller pit roads. In the early 2000s 43 became the standard. Good observation on 43 being the King's number. It would be interesting if that were the reason.

tyler durham I think it used to be 42 cars and they added a 43rd spot for a past champion not already in the race
