- A few months ago I designed and made the first version of my plank system. Its main feature is a growing 'window' which has an area for root growth making it so much easier to chop and extend

I LOVE the modular plank design! I have been wavering between ways to grow some plants vertically, considering different benefits and care requirements. This is a great solution to my desire to "chop & extend," but without the watering obligations of a full moss pole. 👍
You’re a real inventor Jeff; you designed the portable shower, the extendible wood plank & even the leaded soil probe✏️. Thanks for sharing Jeff!
i am actually using a similar technique. I am growing both my verrucosum and paraiso using only a bamboo stake and clear plastic cups filled with perlite around a few nodes. I use 3-6 ounce cups depending on the plant size. There is some cutting of the cups so it can wrap around the plant and bamboo stake but it is simple enough. every few days i add water to the cup if needed. This is similar to the procedure for propogating a top cut ... The main reason i do this is i really dislike working with moss ... and its also a lot cheaper using clear plastic cups instead of the expensive poles...it does the sme thing...
That is awesome! Thanks so much for sharing this technique with everyone
You lost your. Clippers but you seem to have sewing scissors in your basement plant room!! lol 😂 that’s so Jeff. 😊
Improvise! Haha
So clever! Trademark it now!
👍Im just happy that it worked!
Excellent experiment, keep trying. My planked Baltic Blue has grown up its 64 inch plank. I’m going to have to decide what my next move is. Always great info. Thanks
Thanks so much. I have no problem with repotting. I tend to do it sooner than plants needed it and then I get root rot have to be more careful.
genius!🪴😄
I'm going to show this comment to my wife! Haha
I love that you share your experiments and experiences with us. Thanks Jeff! Good to see you again.
@@Melsgottagreenthumb thanks! This won't be the last video of this plank
Can’t wait to see an update!
Me too haha. It is growing nicely
Good morning thank you for Sharing your houseplants lovely collections beautiful video 😎😎🌹🌹
Thanks!
I think your plank method with the expansion method with screws and your dowel method to keep them in line. Great innovations.
Thanks!
Wow, what a great method, Jeff!
Glad you think so! Thanks Mona
Water bottled halved looks like a good idea!
Thanks! It's still version 1
Looks like your new plank system is working great 👍🇨🇦
I think so too!
"BRILLIANT" what a great idea! I gotta try that myself! Alway nice to experiment...like a learning experience..
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! That's what I like to show on my channel....my successes and failures lol Find out what works best for my environment 😁
Can we have a dubbed-in mini 'shriek' every time you slice through a stem please Jeff? I think it would add an extra dimension to your propagation videos :) It always amazes me how plants have that will to re-grow, survive & flourish embedded in their DNA. You are surrounded by very happy plants ~ they looks so healthy and thriving!
Haha. I actually can't take credit for this, but I love it every time I hear it
Great information
Thanks, I'm glad you found it helpful!
As specific as possible, would you mind sharing how to get the wood planks you use? Or the cheapest way to get planks that would work for plants?
Those leaves are sooo big. I can’t wait to be see how they size up.
I will provide updates!
Looks great! I wonder how it would compare to simply using a flat plank and taping the bottle with moss over the front of the node.
@@Planty-Mandy tried that and FAILED. Thats what inspired this design lol
I like your concept. You should get the credit and $ for that idea/invention.
Brilliant
Thanks!
Very cool idea!
Thanks so much!
Great idea!
Glad you think so!
WOW! That method would work for me too! How long did it take to get those many roots?
I am impressed. The question I have is the wood in the soil, won’t it rot?
@@erikabredahl5326 eventually it will.....but it will last on my experience a up to a couple years depending on the type of wood. Cedar is more rot resistant compared to a soft wood like cedar.
After all the years I've had one plank fall over from rot. The rest have been going strong.
There are sealants to protect the bottom if you want....like a rubber coating
Perhaps you could paint that part with something water resistant!
@@erikabredahl5326 definitely....but I'm lazy haha
Same here. Lol
Great video Jeff. Thanks question do you find the Leaves size up just as much on a plank?
I've never done a moss and plank 'official' comparison, but yes.....the leaves size up on a plank for sure! The only thing is you have to make sure to give it a larger pot once it outgrows it
When is the best time to put it on a plank or moss pole
I always like to when the plant is small, but honestly on time is fine. Secure it to the plank or pole and then place it in a pot
Genius!!!
Maybe try dovetails for the connection between the two planks? No screws needed then.
@@krynnadin oh.....great idea!!!!
💚
There is no problem at all having a bunch of moss surrounded by soil in a pot
👍
💜💜
Admit it Jeff, you disassemble your poor kids’ beds and play houses just for your plants. 😂
I'll never admit that hahaha 🤔
