I'd say go for the sapphire. The hesalite will seem like a cool idea when you buy it with the NASA connection & all, but the sapphire sandwich will be something special every time you turn it around & see that beautiful Calibre 1863. Looking forward to seeing what the final decision ends up being!

The sapphire sandwich is a handsome piece and would be the one I'd pick in an ordinary situation, but this watch is iconic because of its history. That overshadows everything. Giving both thought, I just bought the Hesalite.
While watching this I couldn’t help but think, what if you could just go into Rolex store and casually record yourself comparing different Daytona dials without a salesman just sitting there watching you decide.
It had to be the hesalite for me as it’s closer to the original, and the milky ring around the sapphire really bothered me as soon as I noticed it! By the way they both have the same 5 bar water resistance 👍🏼
I have the MOTM 50th anniversary, which has a solid case back, but it does have a 3D lasered footprint on the lunar surface...which is VERY cool. So, when getting the normal MOTM, I kept debating between the hesalite version and the Sapphire Sandwich. I decided it's not the exact watch they took to the moon in 1969 regardless...so I felt like the Sapphire Sandwich was not blasphemy. Also, with the Sapphire Sandwich, I get to study, and be mesmerized by, that beautiful 1863 movement!
You buy the moonwatch for the history, therefore hesalite. You don’t spend that amount of money for a manual wound chronograph with 40 hrs power reserve... Also, no milky ring around the face due to the sapphire . And finally, the inscription behind the hesalite version is the coolest ;).
If you’re looking for a jewelry watch then there are better options than a sapphire speedmaster. So definitely go OG with the hesalite and really lean on the heritage of the piece. Would also round out your collection nicely. Not that I am biased or anything ;)
I would recommend the 321 Speedmaster. It has the hesalite crystal on the front and the sapphire back to see the movement. Plus having the original 321 movement makes it an instant classic.
Go sapphire. If not you'll regret it the day you have a huge scratch on the Hesalite! Also a lucky man you are with the company of a beautiful lady like Ana.

5:41 I think the only one that has a better movement under $10,000 is the Man on the Moon 50th Anniversary. This one has the 1863 movement and the 50th Anniversary has the incredible 3861 movement. They are both fantastic! Depends what you mean by $10,000, though, since the 50th Anniversary retailed for $9,650 (US) and, now that it is discontinued, you cannot get it below $11,000...and usually they're listed on reseller websites between $12,000 and $14,000. I'm lucky I got mine, especially at retail from my AD, since it was a limited edition! I also love my Sapphire Sandwich!
I have the hesalite Speedy Pro so I'm biased. That said I think the hesalite version is an iconic watch. I love mine even with the unnecessarily gigantic box.
Tough choice and I had to make it myself. I ended up with the sapphire sandwich version...mostly because I wanted to see the 1863 movement. All my Rolex and Panerai watches have a closed caseback and now I just wanted to see where my money went 😉

Just got the sapphire one as my graduation gift, never regretted a single bit. Loved it especially its thinner whereas it is a little bit dressier. Versatility + more durable , what is there to hate?
I was trying a Moonwatch several times and thats look too big and tall for my 6.25 inch wrist to use a watch as an everyday watch. But if I decide to take one, I will go with haselite. BTW, Omega people is saying that Saphyre Moonwatch is discontinued, as well as FOIS. Its time to take one! :)

I don't understand why they are so available and cost so much. I mean take the 'limited edition' Speedmaster ck2998. It is over €5500 is a manual winder, and has a crappy power reserve of about 40 hours. Looks great admittedly but really the spec is appallingly low when compared say to a BB58 at €3460. In that price range you should check out a Zenith El Primero which is an amazing watch an very reasonably priced.
Interesting ! So you compare watches based on their pricing, any Casio watch will be the better choice it will be more accurate, cheaper, and easily avilable. OMEGA has long and rich history, innovative, and are of excellent quality. Their in house movements are top notch and equal to Rolex with even better finishing.

Problem with zenith is they aren't as robust for daily abuse and wear. Mine stopped on the 3rd year, fixed under warranty jammed on the 5th Year. It's still jammed now. I never have problems with Omega. More durable. Regards
Sapphire. Waiting for mine to come in actually. There's a reason you can just go in and get the other one, whereas sapphire is more valuable, even in the long term and rarer. I put them side-by-side and the sapphire is more clear and it feels like you could just touch the dial. On top of that, getting to see that beautiful dial is mesmerizing and the fact that you're not going to space anytime soon makes the sapphire a luxurious and more practical piece.
It is interesting to see them side-by-side; hesalite. The odd ring around the sapphire would bug me plus the hesalite is closer to the original version and I doubt it's expensive to replace. Word is that Omega boutiques don't discount so I'd go somewhere else and look to get between 20%-30% off list.

I got the hesalite, because I like the distortions the crystal makes. The sapphire crystal didn't look as appealing in person. I also disliked the white ring.
Hesalite only if it's an actual vintage piece, otherwise sapphire all the way. Don't fall into the whole ”original hesalite is the best” thing. The watch doesn't have the same bracelet, movement, dial, lume etc... That the original had. Get the sapphire and enjoy your watch.
Nico, I had a similar problem - but after trying them on the halo effect on the sapphire version was a no go for me. Too bad they do not make the hesalite sandwich any more. Are they willing to give a discount?
Please dont go with the sapphire. You will not enjoy it on long term. I own the hesalite and i am still enjoying it because of its warmth. Nothing better than the original 😉

How about the new Omega Speedmaster Cal. 321? Better size for your wrist with 39,7mm, overall great proportions and on the caseback you can see the 321 rebuild.

Also keep in mind that the normal Speedmaster wears pretty large on your wrist and while it is still fine I believe the Ed white would be the perfect fit for you. Maybe also an interesting discussion topic for our German Uhrforum 👍

There are to many variations and limited edition Speedmasters and all side and colors of the moon. Omega have destroyed the model unfortunately! 👍And most of them are not even water proof. Under 100m (10ATM) you can barely call it waterproof. Great Video👍👍
U know it hasent any value as a watch when the box costs almosts as the watch itself.. too many accessories inside trying to convince u.. u can see that omega is trying very hard.
