    Late March and April are not good time to be out and about doing activities for extended period of time, especially during mid day, as its the peak of summer in Thailand and for you who came from Spring weather in the UK and into the middle of summer in Thailand. You need more time to adjust.
    My recommendation would be to get lots of rest, if you need to go out for a long time, then try to go early in the morning or after 3pm, wear hats/caps and try to stay under shade and have lots of drinks.
    Wishing you much more fun, enjoyable time and great food for the rest of your trip!

      Even pre-packaged ice cream at a 7/11?

    • @koalanotbear
      @koalanotbear 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I concur!!! When I was in Thailand, I bought three gallons of water at 7/11 just to brush my teeth and shower with it. Can't really trust the water treatment in developing countries. Mind you, even Barack Obama brought his own water supplies from the states in a separate airplane when he visited the king of Thailand, and I heard that he used his water for everything as well.

      With regard to any Ice cream if it is pre packaged and there is chance it has thawed and then been refrozen then avoid. If it is ice cream that has to be scooped from a container I would avoid. Too much chance of cross contamination, it being partially thawed and refrozen many times over. Avoid ice anywhere for the same reason. If in doubt - don't

    • @clarewadey384

      Also avoid salads if possible unless you can see it hasn't been washed in tap water! It's a minefield. Use your own judgement and just enjoy yourself.

    Bacteria is super active during the summer in Thailand and foods get spoil so easily. You might want to try the ORS hydrating powder (most 7-11 carries it). There's one kind made to sooth your stomach. ผงเกลือแร่แก้ท้องเสีย
    Hope you feel better soon. P.S. That black bean ice-cream is my favourite too!

    Holly, look for Aloe Vera gel in Thailand. Stick the gel in the fridge to cool it and then put it on your face, like a mask. It will remove the red and heat of your skin. You need to moisturize your skin to stop it from itching! If you cannot find Aloe Vera gel, look for the plant, slice it into chunks and rub the jelly bit on your skin. It works the same!

    Koh Lanta is nice, especially at all the bungalows on the beach sides but it’s quite a slow island unless you’re with a bunch of friends to spice it up! Definitely recommend Koh Tao, Koh Pa Ngan, Koh Samui, ko Chang… all amazing places with picturesque views. Absolutely stunning out that way!
    Always ups and downs whilst travelling and the downs usually seems REALLY down cause the of the pressure to have a good time all the time but take it in stride, you’ve got this and you have an amazing attitude. X
    Awe bless yah Holly! So sorry you’ve been ill. Definitely drink only bottled water and nearly everyone I know that’s been to Southeast Asia gets what we call “gut rot”… it’s a mix of the water, food, smoothies, ice, time change, stress, being tired…. It’s horrible but it WILL get better we promise!!!!
    You can also buy water purification tablets that help if you want to drink any water not from a bottle as well.

    when my brother went to Asia for a couple of months he had the same and they put it down to a mix of the water, the food and the heat and needing an adjustment! I know it is hard but try and stay hydrates and if you can find some electrolytes drinks/sachets please try and get some because the heat combined with loosing fluids is not great so you wanna try and replace that before you get too dehydrated :)

  • @gubeanthrey

    Have light and easily digestible food, you could get soup sachets, mix them in hot bottled water. Get ORS in packets and mix each packet with a bottled water and have one after every toilet episode. Super essential for you to rehydrate and replenish lost fluids from the upset tummy & the heat. Don't worry Holly xx These challenges are the experiences you will learn from and reminisce down the road. And also don't feel too pressured into always eating a local dish, it's also equally interesting to experience familiar dishes in a different country. Enjoy and take time to relax! xx

I had a bad upset stomach when I was in Thailand and I forced myself to try eat some crackers and plain rice as I had to eat something to try bulk up the disaster coming out of me, but even that made me feel nauseous. I'm Thai and I'm not good at English. My English so bad. And I hope you guys have a good trip in Thailand.
    You are too tired. The body, brain, and nervous system work hard so much. From traveling, thinking, video editing, hot weather, stress and not enough rest and sleep. That make your body unhealthy. You have diarrhea, and your teeth problems come from the nervous system and hot inside body. Try to find balance. Take a break from everything for a day, drink less milk, drink more water, don't eat ice cream every day, eat less food that is difficult to digest, more rest and sleep. That will make everything be better.

For the curing you can drink mineral water available in the shop and drink more liquids like coconut water and less of mangoes , because I am from India and I know when heat and mango clashes with travel it's worst . Also you can bath two times a day to prevent the heat in your body . And avoide spicy food

    Holly, when you go on trips, it is best to drink bottled water not water from a tap. That could be one of the reasons that you might have an upset stomach.

  • @nicoleereeve

    Tap water, ice in drinks, vege/fruit washed in tap water (we avoided any uncooked vege), and toothbrushes rinsed in tap water - avoid all of it. Also rice is a massive carrier of food Bourne bacteria...make sure the rice is prepared fresh as you order it. Any water you have should come from a bottle unfortunately. I had food poisoning in Thailand too. Worst experience of my life!

  • @lottemoores
    @lottemoores 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Oh dear, that's very common unfortunately for tourists to have upset stomach as water there is not clean. So a lot of comments here are correct that to ensure just to drink bottle waters. Also be careful with ice that is being served in glasses (as a Thai who went into an international school there and so had a lot of foreigner friends, we had this discussion and also came down to this conclusion. Plus I got chance to see how ice was made in local ice factory...not great hygienically basically). Also when visiting street food vendors , make sure to watch how they clean dishes before buying food from them.
    Last but not least, if the diarrhoea continues, there are many clinics in Thailand and pharmacies that you can walk in any time and very cheap. Though I'm not sure how many there are in Koh Lanta. But if you need to seek medical attention in BKK or bigger cities, there are plenty, cheap and available 24/7. Hope you feel better soon. X

    The sun is brutal, as you've pointed out, and May is when the heat peaks.
    Definitely keep up with the rehydration tablets and continue to take it easy.
    If you want something light, rice congee (jok โจ๊ก) is popular for upset tummies and easily veganized (just order it minus animal-derived protein or animal-based broth).

Causes stomach upset and extremely watery stool. Thought I'd let you know, since a lot of people might consider rice a "safe food", butnits actually a real risk. Always have rice FRESH! Hi Holly 💖
    I see you have been eating spicy food🌶️. So your Stomach is upset. Take curd or buttermilk (basically a mixture of curd, water and salt) it will take all the heat and cools down your stomach in minutes. Works perfectly as I eat alot of food containing spices(I'm Indian). But I forgot that you are a VEGAN. So go for lot's of fresh Coconut water(i have a habit of drinking fresh coconut water every morning).It will release all the heat.
    Lot's of love from India

    So here is the rule of thumb when traveling in Asia or a third world country - Do not ever drink the tap water or even cook with tap water . Stay far away from street vendor foods , although it may not be easy , only drink bottled water and eat at reputable places or buy food at the grocery stores . The internet is full of stories where people describe they experience of being sick , sometimes seriously from drinking tap water or buying street food . Follow these rules carefully if you want to avoid getting sick .

      not only in asia or 3rd world country, the tap water thing happens even in america too, like in new york.

    You might have travelers diarrhea, which usually needs antibiotics, so it might be worth looking into that. I got something like this from brushing my teeth with tap water instead of bottled water in China. Hope you feel better!
