I had my advanced exam on the 15th of July and spent the night before the exam watching your tips for the speaking part and it was extremely useful. I’d say I speak good English for a non native speaker but sometimes conversations can get pretty stale as I tend to repeat myself so your suggestions helped a lot to keep things “fresh”. I passed with a 206 out of 210 and considering I basically had to prepare the whole thing in a week I feel extremely proud. Thank you so much for your content, I’ll come back for sure if I feel brave enough to take the proficiency
Little did I know how educational TH-cam is, actually. :) Yeah, anyways, everyone here should be really grateful for all the effort that you're putting in those videos! Cheers :)
This word 'only' is one of the most challenging ones. Affects the word order, and depending on where you put it, can also completely change the meaning
This one and similar expressions, like the previous one, are very commonly used in everyday conversation, mostly almost without noticing. Thank you for bringing it up. I think there is more to come, you seem to know what we need👍
Seriously, I enjoy watching your videos.🎉 Thank you Mr Ben. I'm from Egypt and I'm a fresh English teacher. Honestly, thank you again 🙏. I hope to keep doing the hard work 😊.
This video is very much capable of describing my old mistakes. Now I got the rid of them because of this intreseting video. Not only do I watch this video but also your other useful videos, as I have to prepare the b2 exam next 24th. So, I always keep in touch with your you tube channel.
Great as always. I ve seen on the Internet that we can use it without inversion. Should we? Like in this example - "The car is not only economical but also fun to drive"
Thank you Ben I have just received your information on my e mail and it is so helpful and serious However I am a little torn between Engish and French trying hard to achieve equal grade Thanks for everything tips and recommendations Super I am thinking hard which language to choose for C two level
teacher, can we omit "but" in the second clause? ex: Not only does radio enable people to send words, music, and codes to any part of the world, it can also be used to communicate far into space.
Hi Ben, My examples are: Not only have they ruined my day, but also my house 🏠. Not only is English important for our careers , but it is also helpful for communication with others. I hope that I did very well ☺️❤️
Great lesson about this structure, but I have a question. you mentioned that when we want to separate "but also," "also" must go after the verb. I think you meant after the auxiliary verb and before the main verb of the sentence, right? I would appreciate it if you could answer this question.
Hi Ben. I have a question not relating to this topic. I hope you don’t mind. When quoting someone when do you put the subject after verb? Ex: “I like to dance,” she said. “but not with him .” Here is it “she said” or “said she”? What is the grammar rule here?
Not only is exam a big task, but also a headache. Not only are you a good teacher, but also advisor. Not only am I working hard, but also praying a lot. Please check
Professor Gill, Hi this is Ivonne from Mexico. I have to place an englsih exam soon and I ´m writing you just to see if you can help me correcting one sentence with Parallelism. The sentence is as follows: "Not only is Pope Francis the first Latin American Pope in the Vaticano Country, but also he has chosen the best name as Pope: Francis. Did I get the idea?
Not only are your videos helpful, but also entertaining. Not only do I find chemistry boring, but also useless. Not only was he driving too fast, but he was also talking on the phone. Not only she was screaming, but also she was demolishing the house.
"The car not only is economical but also feels good to drive". It seems there is no parallelism in the sentence from which i've quoted the Cambridge Dictionary.
The car not only is economical but it is also feels good to drive= no parallelism . The car not only is economical but also feels good to drive = but also links two independent sentences
Wich one is better ? He not only read the book, but also remembered what he had read Not only did he read the book , but also rememberd what he had read.
How to combine such at the beginning of sentences with not only but also in a sentence😢 I found a sentence then confused: Such a choice highlights not only Paris' beautiful geographical features but also signifies a move towards more immersive and accessible public events. In my opinion, the sentence should be: Such a choice not only highlights Paris' beautiful geographical features but also signifies a move towards more immersive and accessible public events. I need help😂
Ben, I took the CAE exam almost a month ago, the results came in a week ago and I failed by two points.. I got 178 :( honestly I feel sad and dissapointed at the same time, because my expectations were pretty high and franky, the computer-based style seemed to me quite organised, yet still I didn't pass. Until this day, I still can't process the fact that I got 150 points from reading part, which means I filled zero correct answers? I don't know.. but maybe Cambridge could send all of us the task, with a watermark on it, so people can actually see what they got wrong and all the mistakes in general. I was considering a second take this fall, because I had been studying a special 1-year "school course" that prepares students for B2, C1 and C2 exams and I am afraid that I will forget most of my vocabulary and knowledge, if not practised regulary, so thererefore I would like to try the CAE exam again. Do you think it is a good idea? Maybe you can perhhaps make a video about that, so students won't be demotivated or dissapointed if they don't pass their chosen level? That would be nice!
🌻Not only you are a good teacher but, you are also an expressive and imaginative content creator of educational material. Thank you, Teacher Ben.
You have a spelling mistake, you should invert subject-verb order and say "Not only are you"
Thank you, Jennifer! 🙏
@@roger-yt-192Hi Roger, thanks for your time in showing me the correct way to use this structure🌷
@@jenniferfarr5678 No problem!

Hi Ben. I have a question not relating to this topic. I hope you don’t mind.
When quoting someone when do you put the subject after verb?
Ex: “I like to dance,” she said. “but not with him .” Here is it “she said” or “said she”?
What is the grammar rule here?
Not only is Telegram entertaining, but it is also educational
I am not clear with the comma. Do we have to use the comma in the (not only, but also) sentences or is it optional?
Excuse me, sir Ben, is it possible to use modal verbs in this structure, and if so, does it remain the same?
Not only is exam a big task, but also a headache.
Not only are you a good teacher, but also advisor.
Not only am I working hard, but also praying a lot.

Hey Ben, I have learned this inversion structure from our mate Gideon. I love using it..
By the way: it can also used for DRAMA, right?
What do you mean, Freddie? For dramatic effect?
Yes dramatic effect not DRAMA sorry my bad.
And formality too.

Both are fine. The second is more appropriate for formal writing
