  • Wynn Las Vegas, often simply referred to as Wynn, is a luxury resort and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, United States. Let’s delve into its fascinating history:
    1. Desert Inn Era:
The Wynn Las Vegas was built on the former site of the Desert Inn, a casino resort that opened in 1950.
Local developer Steve Wynn purchased the Desert Inn in 2000 as a birthday present for his wife, Elaine Wynn.
The Desert Inn was a glamorous casino, attracting high rollers with its large showroom, modern swimming pool, and the Strip’s only golf course.
It even played a role in the original “Ocean’s 11” movie, starring the infamous Rat Pack members: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr.
    2. Howard Hughes and the Desert Inn:
Eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes took up residency at the Desert Inn in 1966.
Hughes liked the suite so much that he extended his stay, but he didn’t gamble.
Eventually, he purchased the entire hotel, becoming the sole owner in March 1967.
Hughes’ passion for late-night TV movies led to an amusing incident where he called up a TV station to rewind a film scene he enjoyed.
    3. Birth of Wynn Las Vegas:
After Hughes’ death, the Desert Inn fell into corporate hands.
Enter Steve Wynn, the maestro of the Las Vegas Strip.
On April 28, 2005, Wynn opened the Wynn Las Vegas, a luxurious resort with 2,716 rooms spread across 49 floors.
The resort featured a 111,000 sq ft (10,300 m²) casino and cost an estimated $2.7 billion to build.
Its signature exterior feature was a 170-foot-tall mountain, mostly visible from the interior, designed to evoke curiosity and lure visitors.
    4. Encore and the Wynn Complex:
Wynn Resorts also opened a sister property, Encore Las Vegas, in December 2008.
Encore added a second hotel tower, additional gaming space, restaurants, and clubs.
The entire 215-acre (87 ha) Wynn complex now boasts 4,748 rooms and 188,786 sq ft (17,538.8 m²) of gaming space.
Unlike most Strip resorts, the Wynn doesn’t follow a theme and lacks free attractions for pedestrians.
Instead, it features the mysterious Lake of Dreams, surrounded by an artificial mountain and singing animatronics.
