    I really like the way some of your old photographs appear. Refreshing to see mages like these as opposed to the picture-perfect pixels that we all see these days.

      Thanks, guess that's because taken on 35mm negative film, always looks better if you can get a decent scan

    Interesting photos there Peter, the 231 route used to be operated out of Ponders End garage in the 50, 60, and 70, using RTs Crewe change over took place in Southbury Rd after turning left from Gt Cambridge Rd then they would run to Forty Hall,

    Great history...when you left Muswell Hill in 1990, I was driving out of FY and sharing the 43 service with you guys using RMs too and one day I was handed an RML to use.. a rare event! Soon after 1990 we at FY where handed Titans for route 43 and one man operation, losing RMs. I was at FY 1982 until it closed in the early 90s, I then went to Holloway and drove RMs through choice on the 10 route for a year or two. After that I spent the next ten years following wage hikes between Metroline then Arriva and back via Potters Bar then Ponders End and so on. You and I might have crossed paths...I would not know...as I never mixed work with my personal life.

    A bit more history regarding some of those routes and there numbers, the W8 was originally numbered the 128 ran from Edmonton Green- Chase farm Hospital using R/Ts out of Ponders End garage in the mid 60s it was renumbered W8 and switched to single decker one man operated
    The 279 route ran from Waltham cross - Smithfield originally numbered 679 when trolly busses were in use up until 1962 and replaced with R/Ms it operated out of Edmonton ( tramway ave garage together with the 149 Waltham x to Liverpool st station originally numbered the 649

    Nice Video. I agree with you that Muswell Hill was a good, friendly garage to work at and enjoyed my time there.A sad day when it closed. Seeing that picture of the Routemaster signed as 43 on the last day brought back memories of those faces I recognise in the picture.

    That 340 has just crossed over the junction of Honeypot Lane/Marsh Lane on to Whitchurch Lane just before you get to Canon's Park Station. Not much has changed really

  • @NextSound170
    @NextSound170 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I notice how buses back then wouldn’t be near the kerb, all of that came in with the low floor era, but the turned wheel on the stand, don’t see that much now

  • @mohibj
    @mohibj ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lovely pictures from picturesque locations. Did Muswell Hill close just because there was space in other garages or was there more to it?

    • @BristolRE
      @BristolRE  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was the run up to privatisation, routes were being lost across London, so smaller garages were closing because, as you say, there was extra capacity elsewhere.

  • @stephenhyland4256
    @stephenhyland4256 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice video I'm guessing these were happier times for you and the bus scene in London. I see quite a few similarities with the bus scene in London and Dublin. We used to have a route 84a that was been renumbered to 184 although the 84a number has since made comeback to denote peak time short workings of route 84.

    • @BristolRE
