The all female sorts are certainly convenient. I have grown them from time to time but tend to grow older varieties. I’d be interested to hear what you think of Telegraph. It usually does well for us and I quite like it.
I have been finding a lot of white grubs in my soil and they have been chewing on some things so not sure if you have the same issue. So is the normal rule of thumb smooth skin is outside and ridged is inside I never knew there was a difference 😂😂. My early fortune were super prolific in the poly tunnel last year but again I had no idea there was a difference. Appreciate your sharing your knowledge. ✌️🇨🇦🐝 safe
I haven’t seen any grubs but who knows 🤷♂️ It’s the other way around - the glasshouse cucumbers are generally smooth skinned and the outdoor sorts have spines. I had to look up Early Fortune - looks like an outdoor sort, but, as I mentioned, they often do grow well under cover. I would guess you should leave the flowers on that one 👍🙂
The sex life of the cucurbits are well documented now! As my gardens over the years have been small, and because I know that cucumbers are demireps at best, I usually only grow one variety per year, or ensure that the specific epithet names are different so they don’t cross, those sex fiends!
