Hi Jonny, The" Femspots" I'm growing have just started the growth spurt - so looking forward to the first ever home grown cucumbers! Grey shallots produced a superb harvest (from last year's selected mid size "bulbs". Therefore your thoughts on planting not too small nor not too big appears to hold true. Peter

Good job with the shallots - they have such a wonderful flavour and nothing else is quite like them 👍

Waving :: we're just now getting our first cucumbers. You don't want to know how hot it is here. Almost to hot to set fruit on the tomatoes, and I'm shocked the cukes are making fruit at all. Glad to hear things are well.

I can imagine! We had some really hot weather recently (by our standards - positively arctic by yours!) and our toms didn't like it - quite a few flowers dropped. Still, we just had the first ripe cherry tomatoes and hopefully some of the bigger ones start to ripen soon...

I forgot to ask can you save seed from these cucumbers 🥒

No, and for two reasons. They are hybrids, so although you could save seed from them, they would not come true in the next generation - it would be a bit random as to whether you got something worth growing. Also, these don't (usually) produce male flowers, so they don't get pollinated and thus no seed at all. If you have another sort of cucumber nearby they might get crossed, but probably best to avoid that.
