I was going to comment on the last video that Joe should do voice over work. There was a part of the tool talk carb sync gauges video that had some voice over and it sounded really good.
I'd rather pay a guy like Joe to keep my older bike on the road than pay a bank to have a new bike... I'm not down with our modern idea of "just buy a new one". A society where everything is disposable will eventually be disposed of...

@@JoeTheMountainJedi appreciate it! There's not many 450's from what I've heard. It's my learner; learning to ride and learning to wrench. I even need beginner stuff like oils change, chain maintenance, ect. Wisconsin winters are long, at least there's time.
I still remember the commercial for this doing a burnout. I bought one used that the guy put on mikuni flat slides.. ported the head and had a bigger cam and pistons..kerker 4 into 1 meg with no baffle. All kinds of goodies. That bike was so much fun! So easy to outrun the cops back then in IN 😂
My ST1100 had so much fuel in two cylinders when I got it they were hydro locked. Got it all out, three oil dumps and two oil filters later it funs awesome and has been my daily ride at times. Still got it.
Great vid! Anyone with a multi carb setup will really value this info. As an FYI, Maguires Back to Black lotion (not the spray) works pretty well on faded out plastic and Chemical Brothers make a product called VRP that does an even better job. You have options! Best to ya and ride on!
Great video, my ZG1000 Connie was leaking oil from the water pump. I'm sure you know but there's a weep hole on the water pump itself that the oil drips from when the waterpump gasket fails.
Yup.... basically, the same bottom end here, so I figured if I'm goin in to handle the angle drive gasket, were gonna do a full court press to knock out ALL the problem spots!
Great video. I really appreciate the information you put in your content and can't wait for my schedule to have the time to work on my bikes. They follow me home I swear 😅
Tyre sheen is a good cheap quick way of getting plastic to stop it powdering and black up, it may take a few wipes over time to bring it back up but at $2 a can it is a cheap alternative to those expensive plastic restoration kits
Joe I must apologize for my wife unit, siting over there on the couch, being, well kind of snarky because she wants my attention about slip covers for the couch...I told her I was watching ran when parked and I would be over there in a bit... she said, sounds more like rambling fart, you could pause him for a minute he will still be there when you get back... besides you are to old to work on those old scooters anyhow... I must have made some kind of comment... that's when the lights went out and i missed some of your valuable insights about fuel in the oil... well the couch has now been measured, I got back on R W P and have soaked up those tidbits of knowledge... thanks Joe... love yall...
Man, far be it from me to cause domestic unrest!!!!.... Do the things!!, keep the wife unit happy!!! Don't want you to get up close and personal with a frying pan!!, but I damned sure appreciate you giving me a laugh!!!🤣🤘
@jackgreyson832 From one Wife Unit to another, any woman who can decorate using seat covers is a treasure. Lol Sounds like your Wife has knowledge that I need. 😂
typing this with a somewhat straight face.....lol depends on what you're riding, virtually all Harley conventional forks have extensions available that replace the fork caps....some metric bikes as well, but not many..... past that, the aftermarket will be the option for longer tubes
Hey Joe I got a bit of a mechanical question for you that's carburetor related for you. I recently had a local guy rebuild the carburetor on my 84 GL 1200 goldwing 800 mi on it since. I've noticed it idles a little high at around 1,240 RPM and something about the idol just doesn't quite feel right. (Feels like it could be a little smoother) The bike currently has around 84000 mi on it. My question is, should I go ahead and tinker with the carbs to get the idle down a little lower now or give it a few hundred more miles and tinker with it when I'm able to get a gauge set like that?
i wouldnt try anything with the sync screws without a set of gauges......1240-50 is a skosh high on idle....you can back that down to about 1050-1100, and then see if you get any improvement from adjusting curb idle, AND idle mixture screws, but leave the balance screws alone till you get a set of gauges!!
drag specialties shows availability for your bike, depending on what length you need (depending on your bars)...the idle will have the "roll off switch" built into it
Yeah, it can be done....but take the term "reasonable" and dispose of it right now!! First thoughts would be take a pair of late model triumph 3 cylinder throttle bodies(probably from a midsize, like the street 675 or similar), then space them, and figure out a engine management system to run them!! Carbs don't look that bad now, do they?😂
