  • I turn another piece of wood that has been sitting on the shelf for close to 5 years.. I mounted it way off center to save feature that was on the log.
    It was well worth the wait to see the inside of this beautiful Mimosa.
    I had to mount it
    Finished with Zinsser Seal Coat, Zinsser Shellac and Acks Sanding Paste

    It is so hard to tell exactly how it's going to turn out when it's rough, but you imagined it and you got it totally right. Thanks for showing it to us.

    That is a gorgeous wood with deep grains that have a golden hue to them. When you turn that vase upside down it looks like a mama dove hiding in the tree. That’s what I saw. Very cool!

      The first piece I turned was an emerging bowl. The bowl emergent out of a branch with a crotch. The wood was fantastic.

    Thank You Gary... Very good example of how to position/offset wood between centers so as to enhance what you want to save and what you want to turn off. I do not think I would know a Mimosa tree if I saw one and I will need to look that tree up to sharpen my eye. ... The grain kind of reminds me of Ash with more color to it. Your vase turned out very nice and a unique piece with the natural tree personality TM

When I saw the ad I was told the peoples neighbor took all the wood but there was some scrap pieces he did not want I I could have them or they were going into the recycle. I drove right over and got what was left. Not much but as far as I am concerned they were not scrap.

    Thank you for turning this lovely piece - gorgeous. It reminded me of my childhood in Africa. There were many Mimosa trees where we lived at the time and I was warned not to fall asleep under a Mimosa tree because if any of the flowers fell on me I might never wake up again. I think it was to make sure I kept up with my chores - and I did! But mimosa trees are so beautiful and I have happy memories of my time there. Thank you for bringing back memories of such happy times.

      Hey Gary just wondering what brand/type your hot glue is, I have used some that is sort of transparent which worked well but can’t find that one anywhere, I have a packet of glue sticks now that are a milky sort of colour and am having no luck at all with it holding, any suggestions.
      Regards Jim

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jim. I have used many types of glue sticks and they all have worked. Actually some of the ones I really like came from Harbor Freight in a bulk pack. I have gotten some from Bi-mart (maybe a local store) that work good as well.
      I bought a new hot glue gun kit recently that came with a bunch of the long glue sticks. Probably the strongest I have used. I had to resort to a hot air gun to get the tenon off this turning but that worked great as well.
      Getting the glue as hot as it will get is very important to sticking.
      It has two heat settings and an on/off switch. It works great:
