    Super interesting experiment, hoping for an update!
    You're asking almost all the same questions I have.
    I'd be curious about power if using the "power eliminators" would make it any cooler or if you'd introduce any noise from your power source.
    Also I like the antenna idea, you could pretty easily add a j-pole with the design.

    • @SlowGoose
      @SlowGoose  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m hoping to test it out this weekend. I have gotten some good feedback in the groups so I might need to change some things. Either way we’ll see how it works out.

      Noise from the power source may be a factor. Open up the battery case, its mostly empty and line it with foil.

    How far apart do the antennas have to be so they don’t interfere with one another?

    This is the third porta-peater youtube I have seen. Looks much easier than the one my buddy and I had about 13 years ago (it was far bigger, heavier, and harder to set up). When will someone put up a video that actually shows the radio configuration process? I see in the comments that you have later videos. I will check them out.

      @@SlowGoose On which to set up roger beep, how? On which to set up ctss. I think I know, but some may not (xmit, rcv, both)? Lengths of interior cables if it matters? Why two separate batteries? How to make holes for charging and antenae that don't leak. Ours was in a metal 40mm grenade ammo box and we had leaking problems. How to prevent heat buildup. Is there any programming to do on the repeater controller?

    9 watt 5vdc panel? @ what current ?
    Baofeng pair will need 1.8 amps xmit, but I'm not sure these have bms on the extended batpack. I purchased the alkaline/low to mid grade nimetalhydride AA. Charge rate 850ma to 1.2 amp each, depending on workload. Picking up the components to build or buy one outright, 2.5 amp regulated charge controller.

    Before you mentioned the heat issue I was thinking..that thing is gonna overheat out in the field because the case is too tight for waterproofing. But good luck, hope you find a solution.

    • @SlowGoose
      @SlowGoose  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have my concerns still. I upgraded the tx to a 25 watt ht and it does work a lot better. The tx radio has an internal fan and produces substantially more heat. I have not added a fan yet but it’s become a necessity

    • @chrisnixon2179
      @chrisnixon2179 ปีที่แล้ว

      Consider the duty cycle. Heat likely won't become an issue. You could attach the tx radio to a block of aluminum should be enough

      Yes, in the other videos I show the duplexer/diplexer

  • @RedNeckSurgeyTech
    @RedNeckSurgeyTech ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting. But don't you ne 2 antennas? One to receive and one to transmit.

    • @SlowGoose
      @SlowGoose  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s what the duplexer is for. I have seen them with 2 antennas and that’s going to do more harm than good. With cheap radios and incorrect spacing of antennas you will wipe out the receiver of the rx radio.

    Those batteries will not power the radio while it is charging. It will also broadcast on 2m.

    • @SlowGoose
      @SlowGoose  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you check out the next video I wound up having to address the 2 meter issue. I just set it up to cross band and it eliminated the need to stuff a full size duplexer inside the box.
      Also these batteries do charge while the radio is on.

    • @SlowGoose
      @SlowGoose  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was tested on a 3 element beam and the range was awful. The tx radio has been replaced with a 25 watt. The diplexer was replaced with a duplexer. That just has to be tuned now. Watch the rest of the videos.
