Mine was a disaster and I got rid. One of the issues is: “battery safeguarding technology”. Cupra retailer solicitor said “your client is attempting to charge the Vehicle outside of peak hours for cost purposes, the Vehicle’s battery safeguarding technology protects the battery and charges at approximately 50% charge as the battery is not at the safe temperature.” I’m not clear if everyone knows this may mean (as in my case even in a closed integral garage) that 75/80% of home charges could be at only half 7kwh, ie just 3.5kwh. This is the full item they quoted: ** VWG test data for comparison purposes. Actual charging times will vary depending on e.g. options, age, type, condition and temperature of charger/battery, charger usage & environmental factors. Charging time will be longer in cold weather or if battery safeguarding technology is activated.”
Or no really is this still the case with the 2024 models? I was about too get one but if I can only charge at 3.5kw from a home 7kw at off peak 5/6 hour charging rates then I’m not going too get the range I need ,,
@@Rusties844 My issue was the Born half charged overnight which nobody could explain from October 22 to May 23 when I purchased another car. VW retailer’s solicitors then said in 29 June 2023 that a VW website had a small print footnote saying “VWG test data for comparison purposes. ….Charging time will be longer in cold weather or if battery safeguarding technology is activated.” It was in a VW website not Cupra and was copyright 2023 when I purchased in 2022! It was also very strange that nobody from Cupra head office or the retailer ever mentioned this during the six months of issues! So obviously they didn’t know what battery safe was or why it was relevant. It still means nothing to me, it is unexplained why it activates on what basis and when! But apparently means in VW parallel universe it’s ok for my car to half speed charge 75/80% of the time in an integral closed garage!!!!! I don’t think the footnote would suggest that an ordinary garaged vehicle will half charge 75/80% of the time. The retailers courtesy car did the same. Last time I looked I thought the battery safe bit of the website was still current (they’ve changed some but not all of the technical stuff that I am relying on). I’ve left lots of messages asking what battery safe is, why it engages and against what criteria but never got one response!!! It effectively stopped the cheap overnight charging and left me with half the range I was expecting
Or no that’s bad and very misleading, as we know cupra, seat Ect are still VAG parts Ect cupra is basically a ID3 but this battery safe mode has really put me off and I really appreciate your feedback and of course the initial post , I’m going too do a bit more digging but I’ll probably cancel order if like you say it’s in the foot notes has happened on another vehicle and even the retailers don’t k ow about it. It doesn’t leave much hope thanks again if you think or find anything else out please send it. 👍
@@Rusties844 Hi. When I purchased the website had a technical specification. Cupra Official website has a technical drop down page which sets out charging performance. For DC it should charge 5-80% in 35 minutes. Actually it took 50-55mins. Worse still it never even peaked at the rate it would need to average to achieve 35mins. VW solicitors said the figure was a “range” but when I pointed out it never got in the range they didn’t reply! I notice that they haven’t apparently got the dropdown technical page on the Cupra site anymore but what they relied on to me was a VW site as set out in my previous post! Basically I’d have no confidence that it will do what they say and they’ll stick by it. They messed me around for 6 horrible months until I purchased another car!
