I read this book by the famous James Baldwin when I was sixteen years old. I was captivated by every word. I shared it with my sister, they read it and loved it. I shared this book with my friends, they read it and loved it. We had so many discussions about this book. I have read this book every decade of my life. Now that I have reached my glorious 60’s, it is time to read it again. I am never without a copy of this book. I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite books. The opening part when Tish is riding home on the bus; she just left Fonny is one I will remember. As an sixteen year old I was just taken in by the solid words and the strength behind this character. I am overjoyed that this story will now come to the screen for many to enjoy. But please do yourself a favor, read the book first.
I'd recommend anyone who has the time to read the book before the film, the book was fantastic and the movie looks like it will do Baldwin and the story justice. Looking forward to seeing the film.
