Skillet has sooooo much music. Dating back to their self titled album they have evolved so much since then. I love the entire album invincible. As well as collide as well as alien youth. It was after this that they did comatose and awake and rise along with the others. I just love how they’ve only gotten more and more amazing. I was a little sad when they went mainstream and at the same time I I love their stuff lol so I can’t complain 😅

I’ve been an OG fan of theirs from their first album and I just had a major flashback of alien youth lol 😆 my favorite growing up was the comatose album and their song Rebirthing always reminded me of pirates of the Caribbean because of the strings in the opening (I’m a musician and huge Hans Zimmer fan so that drew me immediately lol)

Fun fact, when I was a young teen and just getting into Skillet, I was friends with a guy who was "more Christian" than me. I mentioned that I thought that Monster was a good song, and that I related to it as someone with mental health issues, since I often felt like a monster, and how it's a good metaphor. He got mad at me because he said "Well clearly it's about being a Christian in America, cause it's a Christian band, so all their songs have to be about God and Christianity, and it's about how you have to hide that you're a Christian in America." I disagreed, since just because someone is a Christian doesn't mean they can't talk about other things besides God, and that it doesn't invalidate my analysis that it could be about mental illness. He blocked me.

Coming from another Christian's perspective, it's easily a song about sin, sure, absolutely, 100% agree. But it can also be interpreted like that as well like any other song. Mental illness certainly can feel like a monster in its own right, no less causing someone to feel like a monster themselves. His having a cow over you having another thought about it was absolutely uncalled for and I really hope he eventually saw how out of line he was. Real sorry that happened to ya. :c
Sorry your friend did that to you. Part of the wonder of good songwriting is how many different people can walk away with their own personal message from it.
I always interpreted the mental illness side too. I’ve had depression since I was 4 and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at 21, which certainly feels like a monster. It’s also a commentary on how we’re made to feel in the church sometimes: like it’s some big secret we have to hide to keep up appearances. So I totally get where you’re coming from.
I’m pretty sure their singer said that it was inspired by the Hulk. Definitely no Christianity in that

That last line was just finishing the storyline of the 'monsters' escaping from the lab/morgue, and then the building into the light. So glad you like Skillit, Awake is one of my favorite albums ever.
Skillet was actually the first band that I've ever listened to that I liked. Some years ago I started listening to them when I was 9 or 10 and then tried more heavier songs which led me to Three Days Grace, and Breaking Benjamin. Then I went on to Bullet for my Valentine which then got me thinking hmm. So I went on with Demon Hunter, Exodus, Iron Maiden, SlipKnoT, and Fucking Slayer, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and lots more. So basically Skillet was the starting point of Metal for me.
I don't know, I started listening to Rock as a young boy as my dad likes Rock... so yeah.. however I like Skillet.. however they're almost too pop~ish for me now..
@@livedandletdie Yes, some songs are pop-ish but the majority I feel is more of their moderne song are kind alike. But they will always have that feeling like when I used to listen to them years ago.

This was the song that got me into this genre of music. It was the very first rock/metal song I had heard and I had a huge grin on my face this entire video remembering my first time hearing it and loving that he was loving it.

Anything after awake and alive is garbage. Rise has a few good songs... that whole invincible album is straight trash. I used to love skillet but songs like feel invincible and sick of it have made me really despise them... their new sound is more techno and dubstep rather than rock. Straight garbage.
