Did you check unlimited video memory in graphic settings? Ultra is nice stuttering fest, as frame time proves. When looking at VRAM and RAM usage in combination with frametime spikes, it looks like it's streaming textures from ram, which is much slower than vram, inc. additional latency via cpu processing and this explains why less vram was used than high textures (but riva is not showing your the true used vram, can only check from in game). I know that ultra uses +2GB on the campaign map at start of new campaign vs high, which is too much for your 8GB vram card, as it's using 8.8GB (as reported by the game itself via developer contextviewer). This will increase during the campaign to 10GB+ < 11GB from what I've notcied and this is without any mods.

I have no idea what i did back almost two years ago :) but i don't use the Unlimited Video Memory even on my 4070. With Ultra preset and SAO + Extreme textures i hover about 9-11GB vRAM on the campaign map, and 6-8GB on the battle maps.

@@drupiROM Yes, that sounds about right, around same figures here. With 4070 is indeed no need for unlimited video memory check, only for

@@ancientpenguin126 They probably did that so it runs better on lower end machines compared to TWH II.

@@drupiROM True, but there is a fundamental problem with unit details graphic option, which is tied to LOD and even for ultra, the distance is too short. There are many, inc. recent reports to CA and even a dev said he uses mod that increases distance at his home pc. CA might fix this or not, it's been years though. Many people are unaware of this issue and I've never seen a guide mentioning this, ever, most of those guides are plain wrong in describing what each setting actually does, most of those settings are actually legacy going back to Empire, so for me is not new (been playing all TW games since MW2 and modding, so have to know the inner workings as best as possible). Using that mod, can zoom out further while still retaining high-ultra quality vs low shit quality, it's very noticeable in battle when entities 20-50m further away are missing textures. So even on RTX 4090, entities within a unit can still look like shit and inconsistent when recording and uploading cinematic battles for example. Hopefully CA will fix this, giving us a slider for LOD in graphic settings, because that mod is very simple, changing integer values in an xlm file.

@@ancientpenguin126 True, but i would also want some FSR3, XeSS and/or DLSS/DLAA and frame gen. It would help so much on lower end hardware.
