    You are spot on with your fall blooming pollinator friendly plants. In addition to those, my butterfly gingers (hedychium),odontonema (firespike), shrimp plants, Cardinal flower (lobelia cardinalis) and cleredendrum wallichii are full of butterflies and native bees. Pentas are still a show stopper in zone 9a on the northeast side of Houston. African blue basil is thriving despite the hot dry weather that has lingered into early October. Keep up the great work you are doing both in your garden and on your channel. You provide great information.

      Thank you so much for your comment and encouragement! I really like your fall pollinator plant list! 😍 My shrimp plants aren't flowering well this fall. I wonder if I needed to fertilize them a little in late summer, which I didn't do. (I don't really use a lot of fertilizer). I agree with you on the Pentas. I have to find a way to get more into my yard. And I have wanted to grow Cardinal Flower (lobelia cardinalis) for awhile now - where do you grow yours?

      @@ButterfliesNBirdsI initially planted Cardinal Flower in an area with morning sun only. It seeded itself over several years into a nearly full sun area that receives adequate moisture. The hummingbirds and butterflies love it. I found a pink one at Arbor Gate, but it never reseeded for me nor survived after 2 years.

      Thank you for the information! I saw it a year or so ago at the nursery but hesitated and didn't get it. I just didn't know where I would plant it. Now I regret not getting it. Hopefully I will find it again.

      Another comment mentioned the coral vine too. I don't have it in my yard, so I wanted to look it up and multiple websites state it is an invasive weed in the United States. Do you have any issues with it in your garden?

      Yes it is a weed - but it depents how it is planted and the climate, i plant it in 24*24 grow bag (folded into a 24*16 ) , it attract bees once the sun appears in - lanatana, Firebush, salvia etc - i would say nothing comes even close to it.

    Could you please give me the name of the salvia with the yellow flowers. Thank you. I tried to find the dutchman's pipe ground cover but had no success, Lots of seeds! Do you know if you can grow them from seeds easily? I agree with the lady's comment about the coral vine. I have it in two places and it is always covered with native bees and bumble bees.

    • @ButterfliesNBirds
      @ButterfliesNBirds  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Salvia madrensis (forsythia sage) is the salvia with the long butter yellow bloom spikes. As far as the Dutchman's pipevine ground cover (Aristolochia Fimbriata), I don't know if you can easily grow it from seed or not. Mine flower, but I haven't had any seeds self sow. The nursery I get mine from have told me they are difficult to root. Thanks for the info about the coral vine! 😊

    I hear you regarding the red porter weed, I made the mistake of putting close to our walkway and grew so huge that we couldn't pass between the walkway. My husband had to cut it back some the other day which made me cringe to do that but it's still full.

    • @ButterfliesNBirds
      @ButterfliesNBirds  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can totally understand that cringe feeling! They do grow so well down here. I am glad yours is still full even with the cut back. I have just loved mine and the amount of continuous blooms. I get the most "bang for my nectar buck" from salvia and porterweed for sure!

    Oh my gosh! I haven’t seen Swedish ivy in years. That brings back memories of my parents’ garden. They always had Swedish ivy in hanging baskets.
    I bought Greg’s mist flower at H-E-B and planted in my new bed. They are already blooming. I can tell it is going to do well. Very excited.
    Have you ever had an issue with white flies on your porterweed? I think I may have them on mine. I’m not treating. It seems to be doing ok. Just wondering if you’ve had any experience with that?

    • @ButterfliesNBirds
      @ButterfliesNBirds  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Fall is the time when the Gregg's mist flower really blooms a lot. It is a perfect time too for the fall Monarch butterfly migration.
      No, I don't think I have seen white flies on my porterweed. I do have a lot of porterweed in the yard, and I don't see anything on it ever. It is one of those plants that has been pest free for me.
      The nursery I go to has Swedish ivy in hanging baskets in the fall for $19.99, and they always look so pretty. I now have 3 of the baskets from each of the last 3 seasons, and they are in bloom so nicely right now. Unfortunately the squirrels like them too, and I have a squirrel that likes to eat Swedish Ivy. (Grrrrrrrr). So, I have had to move them around in my trees so they aren't so easy to get to.

    Hi, I'm also located south of Houston. My pollinator garden has been sad this year compared to previous years but I'm hoping to restart and have some fall nectar sources. Where did you get your lantana from?

    • @ButterfliesNBirds
      @ButterfliesNBirds  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello neighbor! I like to get a lot of my plants at Enchanted Gardens in Richmond, TX. It is about an hour drive each way for me, but I really like the plants they have. They are healthy and grow well in our area. I got my Bloomify Lantana from them. They usually have many different types of lantana, but I don't see the Bloomify series often.

      You're welcome! I go during the day (mid-morning usually) and during the week when it is less busy there and on the road! lol. Also, if you are looking for a specific plant and they don't have it in yet, you can put your name on a list and they will call/text you when it comes in so you don't waste a trip there. 😊

    Can you tell me the name of the red flower vine plant?

    • @ButterfliesNBirds
      @ButterfliesNBirds  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is called a Cardinal Climber. It is a hybrid cross between a Red Cypress vine and a Red morning glory vine. It grows true from seed. And I harvest my seeds each year.
