I haven’t seen this movie, I’ve only heard of it before when Stuckmann mentioned it in one of his Blu Ray collection videos also saying it’s underrated. I might check it out if it’s streaming. I will say if you want to see some more great Chris Evans performances, highly recommend Snowpiercer and Knives Out.
I’ve been wanting to see Knives Out and I did see Snowpiercer back in 2014, I thought it was all right. Had an interesting concept, but it didn’t really land for me and I thought the explanation that Chris Evans gave at the finale was a little too late and that you could’ve had that spread throughout.
I wish Stathum had done more villain roles after this film. It was still early in his career, and he had come out swinging with Transporter just the year previous from this one, where he was more of an antihero (kinda). It would have been nice to have both hero and villain roles to compare. But I'll give credit that the guy knows what he is good at and what he isn't, so he knows how to market himself in the action genre. What makes me really like this film is how simple it is but yet also making it complex through what it reveals to us later. We have no idea what is going on just like Jessica, and also Ryan (to some extent). We slowly learn that the bad guys are not just normal criminals before eventually getting to what they want. It feels larger than life because the characters are just normal people. I remember going to see this movie in theaters (at the $1 theater, back when those existed) with my family as a kid and having a blast. Immediately bought the DVD upon release.
