I wish you would've talked more about the Dodge Offset system instead of just barely mentioning it. For me the original Bayonetta didn't click until after 2 whole playthroughs once I finally understood how to use dodge offset. It pretty much changed the whole game for me. I remember being shocked after playing normal mode with mostly Stone awards that there were two difficulty settings that were even harder. However after I understood how dodge offset allows you to focus on dodging without ever having to forfeit your combo Hard and Non Stop Infinite Climax didn't feel impossible anymore. I honestly preferred the first game over the second. I thought the gimmicky sections broke things up way too much, the boss fights weren't nearly as interesting, Loki was way more annoying than Cereza and I much preferred the first game's weapons.
Personally preferred 2 over 1. Gimmicky sections? You mean stuff like Angel Attack, Out of Body moments, Route 666, Isla Del Sol? I'd take few swimming and flying combat sections over that stuff. As for the bosses, I think one is too focused on epic setpieces that aren't very interesting on replays (aside for maybe Jeanne and Balder). Loki and Cereza are a wash for me. I feel like the weapons are a bit more diverse in 2, although I think I like DMC3's weapon set the most out of this style of games. Also practically removing all the insta-death QTE's is a big bonus for me as well.
I never said Bayo 1 didn't have gimmick sections, just that it annoyed me way more in 2. Every single time Loki said "Mate" or "Love", it sounded forced somehow. DMC3 definitely has the best weapons. But getting rid of the insta-death QTEs was indeed a MASSIVE improvement. Somewhere in these two games is a game that can rival DMC3 but Kamiya's games have a tendency to add terrible ideas that hold them back.
I guess to me the gimmicky sections, a la the water and air combat didn't feel as intrusive since they were till built around the core combat and didn't take up as much time as the others, and the equivalent sections to the motorcycle and rocket sequence seemed significantly shorter and in the case of the jet fighter sequence in 2, actually playable. And yeah, I love Kamiya, and pretty much have bought everything he's made with no regret, I just wish he would dial back the parts of the game that clearly don't fit.
Good points. Yeah, the bike and missile bits go on WAAAAAAAY too long. I forget what the gimmick sections in 2 were. Maybe it's mecause I played both games back-to-back so it wore on my nerves more in 2.

Aya ya Agreed. That one insta-death qte in chapter 2 of the first game killed me so many times just because I was a fraction of a second off in pressing "x" The Stone trophy I got as a result of those five deaths really ticked me off.
Joshua Seagondollar even now when I play bayo 1 on the switch I still stress a bit and forget which button to press until its last minute when I know a quick time event happens
Great video! Only thing I'd add is that the taunt mechanic does add to the ranking system, just in a slightly more oblique way. When the enemies are aggro'd, it really increases the risk/reward of Witch Time. The enemies will attack quicker and more frequently, which increases the risk of you getting hit; but you also get more opportunities to dodge and activate Witch Time which gives you the opportunity to continue your combo. Comes in really handy during those bosses that just love hanging out in the background waiting for your combo meter to run out.
No quick time, good pacing, enhanced devil bringer combat, tons of weapons, a simple and climactic story, unlockable characters (Nelo Angelo, Trish, Lady), returning devil arms (cerberus, nevan), more enemies, faster movement, style switching through speech instead of d-pad and more taunts, thats my wishlist
Suwat Saksri I also think customizable Devil Trigger should return. I also think Reuben Langdon should return as English Dante. I miss that guy. I do agree with your wishlist though.
Although I adored the characters, the gameplay of the first installment didn't really click with me until I had finished bumbling my way through it and started the 2nd playthrough - then I fell in love. It really rewards you for figuring out & utilizing all the mechanics and doesn't shy away from letting you know that you suck. I only recently finished pure platting it, which was totally worth it. In comparison, Bayo 2, while still an amazing game, was too streamlined in order to appeal to casual players. On surface level it might seem better than the first one, but once you start digging into the mechanics, it kinda falls apart. With the recent PC port of Bayo 1, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Bayo 3.
Bayo 1 is miserable at first and gets better and better the more you play it. Bayo 2 is enjoyable from the get go but just gets less enjoyable the more you play and the more you try to suck out of its combat system.
"It's good that girls also have a cocky, audacious character to get into..." Not if you're Anita Sarkeesian; Then, Bayonetta is nothing more than a woman trying to imitate a man and not a truly feminist character.... Yeah.
Nothing is ever enough for people like Anita. They thrive on things to complain about and excuses not to face the world and accomplish things, and then when people actually try to fix genuine problems in society, they twist it so that they're still the only ones who can be morally right. We should just stop paying those people any mind whatsoever.
Learning this game by trying to play it like DMC will get your ass fed to you. It just doesn't work. Dodge offset has been pushed further in 2 as a crutch along with Umbran climax making regular attacks piss weak and basically worthless. So every fight is basically concentrating 100% on dodge timing and remembering where in a combo you were before you dodged so you can actually do some decent damage with a weave Not sure how I feel about that as fights feel more like a mini game rather than actual fights when it comes to anything other than early jobber enemies
Im not sure how to feel about it either. On it's own, I think it's perfectly fine and even fits the character more honestly. I do still enjoy it, but you can't ignore the amount of freedom Bayo 1 had that this doesn't.
My friends ask me why Bayonetta was not so popular in 2009? My answer is is simple.... "Even a devil may cry when he loses his love one. Don't you think?"
Not only are the button prompts for bayonetta 2 imerssion breaking, it's also unneseccary. You can only use them if you have at least one moon pearl and use different buttons so why bother?
Uncharted and Blooborne will be shit, Persona 5 and Dragon Quest Heroes will be on PS3, and Silent Hill 10 will be probably be a multiplat. Xbone exclusives will be on PC in a year or two. PC + Vita/3DS + Wii U master race.
I found the button mashes in Bayonetta 2 to be quite boring. But in The Wonderfull 101 they actually serve their purpose of being a rewarding climax to a tough boss battle.
In addition to this and The Wonderful 101, Nintendo is also funding the remaining development on Itagaki's The Devil's Third. This has me hoping that Nintendo will try to cater to the action game crowd, seeing as neither Sony nor Microsoft seem to really have anything in that regard going for themselves. I only just finished replaying Bayonetta 1 and am preparing to start 2, so I can't really comment other than to say it was an enjoyable review.
Ah another gaming Brit review. I've been needing some more well written British sarcasm in my life as of late. Honestly, the only reason you don't have more subscribers is because you need to put out more content. In the time I've been subscribed, I've watched every one of your videos and I'm craving more. So if you've got the yayo, I've got the money.
I hate to mention this but the newest Onechanbara game on the PS4 has 4 characters with completely different move-sets who can be switched between at any moment alongside individual weapons (4 for 2 characters, 2 for the other 2). Its not a patch in terms of budget and it even has at least one re-used stage from the previous title in the series. It has no production values, its hugely skeezy, has hilarious Engrish at specific moments and in general is full on B-Game. I love it.
Leman Rusk I love shit like that. People wonder why I love a good Sci-Fi B flick and I tell them that there is nothing better than a movie, or a game in this case, that is so self aware of its self. When something is bad in a good way there is nothing else like it.
I remember that on every fight against "totally not Balder using a mask" i always ended it on critical health because it was hard mode and i sucked at dodging... nothing surpass the orgasmic defeat the boss before he chips you to death so you avoid the stone rating feeling of those fights
Erick Moscoso The thing that really bugs me about the Balder boss fights is that his attacks are too fast to realistically react to and dodge. It's really hard to predict when, how, and which attack he'll use in order to properly dodge them
There's no skill behind them, it can come out of nowhere 90% of the time, it can be very jarring in games like Bayonetta, and they're just not very fun.
I can remember hearing the bullshit reasoning why Ninja Theory left out taunting in Devil may Cry: Devil May Cry was because it doesn't fit the narrative. Sure let's not have the player taunt when they want to, but we'll still have DINO spout crappy patter when we think it best suits. img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130710153907/cardfight/images/f/fd/Godzilla-facepalm.png Same old Ninja (Flawed) Theoey, never Ninja Fact. I dunno if you saw this yet but I think we could get some DMC news at Jump Festa on the 20th tsdr.uspto.gov/#caseNumber=86210729&caseType=SERIAL_NO&searchType=statusSearch
You can spank centaur angels, this is a once in a lifetime game that everyone should play. Whether it's better than DMC 3 though, that I'm still deciding.
Maybe if weapon switching worked like this. Hold the dpad up or down for arms or legs respectivley, then a radial menu pops up and you use the right analog stick to choose a weapon. Sounds clunky I know but that would be on the fly weapon switching that may work for Bayonetta. ZL could still be used changing certain sets that your prefer. Or holding ZL to open up a radial menu and dpad up or down chooses between arms and legs. While tapping ZL still switches between two differnet sets. It could also do what DMC5 did and have weapons that are very similar only be swapable in the shops or during mid mission menus. Bayonetta 2 has three different types pistols but it only clutters the menu.
Maaaan...I wanna play this SO BAD. Too bad I'm too broke to buy a system. Besides this and maybe, _maybe_ Mario Kart 8, is there any game worth playing on that thing?
expcake Yano, I'd never even heard of that until this video. So after your recommendation I looked into it - made by the former heads of Clover? I think I feel my wallet getting lighter already!
That's going to depend largely on your tastes. Personally, Wonderful 101 is still one of my favorite games made of the past couple of years, and largely because it takes a more accessible approach to the design of an action game (I'm the sort of person that plays Bayonetta and Ninja Gaiden on easy because I'm a big crying man baby, but I was able to do Wonderful 101 on Normal with little issue). So that gets my top recommendation. But Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker has proven to be an excellent and unique bundle of wonderful at a cheaper price as well, and Super Mario 3D World is a phenomenal romp building off of the foundation of Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 3D Land. Word on the street is that Deus Ex: Human Revolution is best on Wii (compared to other consoles) based on how it makes use of the touch pad, and ZombiU is an interesting rogue like zombie horror that is, well, horrifying at times due to how powerless you can be. Evidently people be diggin' that Monster Hunter game as well. Personally I'm super stoked for Splatoon, which is Nintendo taking team deathmatch and making it family friendly and fresh (and it comes with a great looking single player campaign even!), but that's in 2015 alongside a new Star Fox and Zelda. And as I commented, Tomonobu Itagaki's The Devil's Third is hitting the WiiU in 2015 as well, alongside Xenoblade Chronicles X. People will call the WiiU a first party machine, but to that I say 1) that's not Nintendo's fault, and 2) considering how much they pump out (forgot to mention they're also making another Kirby game and I'm undoubtedly forgetting other current games like Pikmin 3, Hyrule Warriors and Lego City Undercover), that's not a problem for Nintendo. So tl;dr: Does the WiiU have good games? Good friggin' God, yes, and it is getting more. Are the games right for you? Dunno, but maybe.
Wonderful 101, Earthbound, and Smash Bros (inclusion of 8 player smash really makes the game different and offers a new experience that previous titles haven't had.) Mario 3d World, Pikmin 3, and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze are pretty good as well. Then if you haven't played Windwaker yet, there's Windwaker.
nintendo needs games like this. this was my game of 2014! but recently started the god of war series.. i'm at the 3rd now and all i can say is that nintendo has by far not such games, this comes kind of close but we need mooooooooore!!!!!!!
I was a little exhausted from fighting something like 5 bosses in row chapter after chapter. But I like chapter 2 the most because the start is just a town to explore and I can grind halos by destroying knickknack stands
Bayonetta 2 is definitely the most fun I had in a video game in three years (since Arkham City). Yes, Shovel Knight is my top game of 2014 but as a mechanical experience, Bayonetta 2 grew up on me at every single minute of gameplay! I also played Bayonetta on PS3 so I definitely understand your pain so when I heard that the original was going to be ported and bundled with the sequel, then I knew Platinum cared about this product! This is one of the best deals if not THE best deal since Metroid Prime Trilogy and now that both games compilations are available on the Wii U (MPT as a digital game), it makes the console more relevant. I didn't really play the Devil May Cry but I'll sure give it a shot some day... but DAMN I love this game! DAMN!
Be curious to know if modern Brit has changed/evolved his thoughts on things said in this video. Pretty surprised by a handful of things said in this video
Whoops, I guess you may do a video of it in the future. That's gonna be tough, I love that game but it's pretty flawed and you are probably going to shit on it

Itsuno better step his game up for DMC5 when it finally gets properly announced.
Suwat Saksri
I also think customizable Devil Trigger should return. I also think Reuben Langdon should return as English Dante. I miss that guy. I do agree with your wishlist though.
Suwat Saksri dude using ps4 controller to switch styles through speech is an awesome idea
16dylan2 it would make the combat even faster when you are busy pressing the attack buttons
Suwat Saksri no human can talk fast enough to match my style switching frequency.
Dude, you have really sick editing skill. That intro was seamless.
I feel like Bayonetta one is a bit more intense then Bayonetta 2 or missing that edge to the first of it's series.
Anyone agree?
Now I can finally emulate Bayonetta 2 on PC at 60fps with shadows. I can finally know what the fuss was about 6 years ago.
"It's good that girls also have a cocky, audacious character to get into..."
Not if you're Anita Sarkeesian; Then, Bayonetta is nothing more than a woman trying to imitate a man and not a truly feminist character....
Yeah.
Indeed. And yet that moron is taken seriously by so many people...
And yet she still is regarded as the face of female gaming after everything's said and done.
And that pisses me off.
That's true. She certainly knows how to wrap a bunch of idiots around her finger.
Nothing is ever enough for people like Anita. They thrive on things to complain about and excuses not to face the world and accomplish things, and then when people actually try to fix genuine problems in society, they twist it so that they're still the only ones who can be morally right. We should just stop paying those people any mind whatsoever.
^ And that right there, ladies & gents, is a prime example of an idiot putting words in people's mouths.
I love you intro. Awesome review. Been wanting to try out Bayonetta for a while now...
Are you going to review the Wonderful 101?
It's been 3 years but I still demand an answer.
Hey, Gaming Brit, can you do a retrospective of the Ninja Gaiden franchise as you did the DMC?
saito first
I still think Bayonetta 1 is the best of it's genre.
You forgot God Hand which is better than all three. 👌
God hand controls like shit. But am like an hour into it, so it could be really good
It controls weirdly, but isn't bad. You get used to it, and then the combat becomes so fucking good.
@@MrBorderlands123 it's a beat em up. These are hack and slash
Just wished that this game had a style meter like DMC instead of the vague combo points.
Learning this game by trying to play it like DMC will get your ass fed to you. It just doesn't work. Dodge offset has been pushed further in 2 as a crutch along with Umbran climax making regular attacks piss weak and basically worthless.
So every fight is basically concentrating 100% on dodge timing and remembering where in a combo you were before you dodged so you can actually do some decent damage with a weave
Not sure how I feel about that as fights feel more like a mini game rather than actual fights when it comes to anything other than early jobber enemies
2 has some massive issues
Im not sure how to feel about it either. On it's own, I think it's perfectly fine and even fits the character more honestly. I do still enjoy it, but you can't ignore the amount of freedom Bayo 1 had that this doesn't.
My friends ask me why Bayonetta was not so popular in 2009?
My answer is is simple....
"Even a devil may cry when he loses his love one. Don't you think?"
What are you saying?
Nice seeing a reveiw from someone who actually likes this kind a genre. Who knows what he is talking about.
5:38 lmfao I love japan
Hello, GamingBrit. Would it be redundant to review how Bayonetta 1 runs on a WiiU? I would assume it runs more like the 360 version than the PS3 one?
I heard it runs pretty much like the 360 version.
Grady Childs Thanks. :)
I've always had problems concentrating on this review because of the quality soundtrack in the backround.
Still waiting for Bayo 3... The gods have abandoned us...
More time more quality
@@MojaveKnight17 Tell that to Duke Nukem Forever, Final Fantasy XV and Too Human.
@@bergonath8851 depends on the developer... I doubt platinum games will screw up their main IP 😅
Not only are the button prompts for bayonetta 2 imerssion breaking, it's also unneseccary. You can only use them if you have at least one moon pearl and use different buttons so why bother?
I love Bayonetta. But I just cant bring myself to buy a Wii U for it.
Uncharted and Blooborne will be shit, Persona 5 and Dragon Quest Heroes will be on PS3, and Silent Hill 10 will be probably be a multiplat. Xbone exclusives will be on PC in a year or two. PC + Vita/3DS + Wii U master race.
ERT WETW It looks cool but it's too easy and just takes things from DaS 2.
Alis Zigg how do you truly know any of that?
I could've gotten myself to buy one if it wasn't region locked. That practice is such blatantly anti-consumer that I won't support it.
Alis Zigg you have no idea how much I agree with you, in fact I agree the shit out of you, if that's a thing....
What about the multiplayer? How is it?
+Ramble Pak This comment is so hard to read now...
Oh man, tell me about it. Guh...
BEAUTIFUL! Review as always Mr. Gaming Brit!
But just a quick question.
Will you a Christmas Special on Anarchy Reigns?
“Sooner rather than later”
Excellent video as usual keep em coming!!
Man i wish I had a Wii U cause fuuu I love Bayonetta
Oh, it's only been 8 years since that allusion to a future TW101 video. How about a couple of more to make it a nice round 10?
Listening to this soundtrack is like getting língchí.
So Umbran Climax is only in 2? I saw a video of someone using it with the Bayonetta model from 1, but who knows.
Imagine a bayo and dmc crossover game!
-Don't bet on it-
Yeah, but we can hope
I was kinda surprised to see him actually tackle this game.
so i'm wondering is the traditional hack and slash genre dieing out a bit? i sure bloody hope it isn't.
Souls games took over apparently
Bayonetta 3 Is In The Works
I bought a wii u to play this game despite its flaws I loved bayo 1 at some point I should check out the dmc series, seems right up my alley
Oh boi I sure do can't wait for Bayonetta 3 whenever that will be released.
I love your videos!
thankfully you can finally get it on pc with cemu
Nope only the first one.
I love it.
That sounds like some good shit. I'll look it up.
It's really hard to predict when, how, and which attack he'll use in order to properly dodge them
Bayonetta 3 has been confirmed to be in development!
...savagely killed? Sorry buddy but DMC IS BACK
Waited many painful years, refusing to buy a Wii U - but finally got it on the Switch.
Some crazy ass sh*t.
Good times.
Aesir was cool, but NOTHING can compete with Jergingha
I still don’t understand why people hate quick time events so damn much
There's no skill behind them, it can come out of nowhere 90% of the time, it can be very jarring in games like Bayonetta, and they're just not very fun.
I'd say the combo system is much more in depth than you think.

Same old Ninja (Flawed) Theoey, never Ninja Fact.
I dunno if you saw this yet but I think we could get some DMC news at Jump Festa on the 20th

I love this channel, you should review Smash
You only turn into a crow if you're holding a direction, it's up there, look at it... Just dont hold the direction while spamming dodge in the air.
Bayo 2 & upcoming 3 are the primary reasons I finally got a switch. Love the first game and held out long enough to finally play 2. Can’t wait for 3!
I can't wait to get this game.
As an action fan myself there is no way I'm going to buy a system just so I can play the damn game
You can spank centaur angels, this is a once in a lifetime game that everyone should play. Whether it's better than DMC 3 though, that I'm still deciding.
Fancy new artwork.
Still waiting for that Wonderful 101 review.
YES! FINALLY!
This and God of War 3 are my favourite hack and slash action games.
+Envy987001 Hey, I'm just wondering, how good is GOW Ascension and would it be fine to skip straight to GOW 3 since I haven't played the others
Alastair Hadlow
Go ahead. Acension is fun, but is no GOW3
Envy987001
Thanks man, it's one of the three games I see at my electronic store down the street and was interested.
+Alastair Hadlow Do NOT skip right to GOW3. GOW1 & 2 may be a bit old but they're the best in the series. Ascension was really meh.
+Alastair Hadlow IMO 2 is better than 3
HI BRIT
this review reminded, did you drop your review for Anarchy Reigns?
Maaaan...I wanna play this SO BAD. Too bad I'm too broke to buy a system. Besides this and maybe, _maybe_ Mario Kart 8, is there any game worth playing on that thing?
If you can get around the camera issues, The Wonderful 101 is definitely a title worth checking out.
Andrew Turturro I'm not big into Smash, never have been. I know, I know...I'm a degenerate. :p
expcake Yano, I'd never even heard of that until this video.
Enzo is originally a devil may cry character
DAMN!
Could you give us a Review of The PC releasse of Bayo 1??? You did to vanquish
I loved the game :D
Be curious to know if modern Brit has changed/evolved his thoughts on things said in this video. Pretty surprised by a handful of things said in this video
9:37
dmc4 in the background, ahahaha
Good video! Just wondering, what did you think of W101?
Whoops, I guess you may do a video of it in the future. That's gonna be tough, I love that game but it's pretty flawed and you are probably going to shit on it
What happened to the "Bayonetta's Greatest Adversary" video? It's gone
Unlisted. You can still view it if you find a link.
So witch time is like parring from DS1.
