I agree to some extent. You should do it in this order: 1. Learn the Arabic alphabet. 2. Learn Tajweed. 3. Learn and memorise enough surahs with tajweed to allow you to pray (surah Fatiha + 4 other surahs). 4. Learn the meaning of those 5 surahs. 5. Learn that much Arabic to understand what you are reciting in the whole Salah. 7. Learn Arabic so that you can understand more of the Quran. 8. Memorise as much of the Quran as you comfortably can, with understanding. 9. Improve your Arabic to understand the whole Quran (at least the immediate. meaning of the ayaats). 10. Memorise as much as you wish of the Quran. 11. Improve your Arabic to study and understand Islam more.

Learning the language is far more important than memorizing something that u don't understand!When u understand something , obviously u r able to memorize it!!
@BIO Logy How do you motivate children to memorise though? They just want to play. By the time they realise they want to memorise they'll be too busy like myself right now. When you are young you lack focus when you become older you don't have the time.
You have to make time. I don’t have time is not an excuse. An hour a day will do the job. You can recite on your way to work and in your spare time. No one is telling you to memorise it in 2 years. But make a start my brother and insha Allah you will memorise it. Allah will make it easy for you. Just make constant dua. May Allah make it easy for us to memorise and understand the Quran. Ameen

That doesn't mean that I'm not making the most of what ever time I have available Alhamdulillah. I have already memorised almost 20 juzz being as busy as I am. I will never stop learning the Qur'an. My goal is to complete my hifdh by the end of 2021 in sha Allah.

Same here...so should i memorise it first and then memorise the translation and then the grammar??..i feel like if i will memorise it first it will give me the motivation to learn it precisely..if i choose learning it first it might get hard for me..and i can't do everything at the same time because of the medical studies and daily schedule...

I am memorizing along with the meaning, but now I just realized how much path is ahead of me in understanding the essence of Qur'an. Simply knowing the translation is not enough. Some day inshaallah I shall learn Arabic too.

I am an indian lady who started everything simultaneously...the tajweed along with hifdh from Juz Amma(of course word to word meaning too) along with the three Madina arabic book course and of course reading and listening to tafseer...i started at age 35 and finished hifdhul Quran under arab teachers at age 50 ... Alhamdulillah i was slow but its ok ..the revision of course continues ..

Do appreciate the fact that Allah mentioned "Understand" first and "Remember " second. "And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition?" Surah 54 Ayat:17. لِلذِّكْرِ - Liz-Zikri This is a prepositional phrase which has different shades of meaning: 1) ‘to remember’ or ‘to memorise’ 2) ‘as a reminder to take heed of” 3) ‘to bear in mind’ 4) ‘for seeking advice’ 5) ‘to understand and remember’. All these meanings apply to this verse. May Allah guide us all to straight path and make Quran easy for us to understand and remember. Amen.

I found that memorizing Quran after undestanding it, made me ponder on the meaning. Memorizing the Quran is a very good way of doing tadabbur in my opinion.

I started by memorizing Al Baqarah, Arabic + translation word by word. And then I stopped memorizing at ayat 40, and started reading Quran word by word translation like that until khatam. After khatam a few times, somehow I was able to recognize around 90% of Quranic vocabularies, with a loooooot of questions in my head. That's when I started to eagerly learn Nahw & Sharf. After understanding basic nahw & sharf, I started listening tafseer, and it became more clear that way.. Then I started memorizing Al Baqarah once again, picking up where I left it. But this time, with the understanding of nahw & sharf, boy I found many questions here and there, so I check on the same root letters in the Quran and how they were used, check on Lane Lexicon, tafseers, asbabun nuzul, lectures, etc, for every question I had. Therefore now, memorization is absolutely a form of tadabbur for me. Reading slowly just doesn't dig deep enough, but memorizing does.. I will find similarities & differences from the ayats before, and for each there is a question.. I really am learning by doing this now..

And you left out the entire 'pondering' phase altogether which is the first and foremost purpose of Quran being sent to us!

Do appreciate the fact that Allah mentioned "Understand" first and "Remember " second.
"And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition?"
Surah 54 Ayat:17.
لِلذِّكْرِ - Liz-Zikri
This is a prepositional phrase which has different shades of meaning:
1) ‘to remember’ or ‘to memorise’
2) ‘as a reminder to take heed of”
3) ‘to bear in mind’
4) ‘for seeking advice’
5) ‘to understand and remember’.
All these meanings apply to this verse.
May Allah guide us all to straight path and make Quran easy for us to understand and remember.

I found that memorizing Quran after undestanding it, made me ponder on the meaning. Memorizing the Quran is a very good way of doing tadabbur in my opinion.

personally I think memorizing becomes easier if you do it along side learning the meaning and learning some arabic words.
I started by memorizing Al Baqarah, Arabic + translation word by word. And then I stopped memorizing at ayat 40, and started reading Quran word by word translation like that until khatam.
After khatam a few times, somehow I was able to recognize around 90% of Quranic vocabularies, with a loooooot of questions in my head. That's when I started to eagerly learn Nahw & Sharf.
After understanding basic nahw & sharf, I started listening tafseer, and it became more clear that way..
Then I started memorizing Al Baqarah once again, picking up where I left it. But this time, with the understanding of nahw & sharf, boy I found many questions here and there, so I check on the same root letters in the Quran and how they were used, check on Lane Lexicon, tafseers, asbabun nuzul, lectures, etc, for every question I had.
Therefore now, memorization is absolutely a form of tadabbur for me. Reading slowly just doesn't dig deep enough, but memorizing does.. I will find similarities & differences from the ayats before, and for each there is a question.. I really am learning by doing this now..
So everybody try to learn Arabic. It's really a rewarding work. There are many videos in TH-cam that teaches Arabic to understand Quran.
For myself, learn arabic. When you salah, dua, in really makes a sense when we understand the meaning even little..
