Great interview, growing up under him I saw everything from different young eyes it was lovely to hear the story from his eyes. My birthday bash is still talked about to this day I had DJ Tira and DJ Ganyani on the decks, I still owe them lunch cause I was busy being a cool kid I didn't make sure they ate or drank LOL. The studio days I remember, I would be fetched from school by Kabelo then meet up with Vusi in studio only get home late sometimes at night as they were recording. The whole of 999 came to my school to have a concert. I think he deserves to have his story told and recorded in the history books of our South African music. He must be given his flowers. I am happy though that some guys never forget his some of which were HHP(MHSRIP)and Tokolo they both loved Vusi just to mention a few. May everything he touches continue to turn into gold. May God bless his work
Great interview! I mean, I knew Vusi Leeuw through the late HHP's interviews. He spoke so fond of him. In fact, even the name Hip Hop Pantsula came from Vusi. It's sad to hear his friend Sbu Malawyer not give him his flowers. I am such a fan, Bra Vusi. Thank you for the contribution you've made in the industry, including changing people's lives.
I'm honoured to have met this giant soul. Very humble, kind, sweet and creative. He really deserves to be given flowers while he can still smell them. He played a pivotal role to discover artists who shared their inspirational story and shaped the music industry greatly
There is so much more that he did not mention on the interview. He also helped to create/contribute to the translated version of artist recording contracts. Most artists signed their lives away not reading or understanding what they were signing. Most of them were in love with the craft so they would get caught up in their contracts. Just to add my 5 cents...
I reckon Bro Vee and Happy Dayz family taken Sbuu out of context as his emphasis was on Lance believing on TKZee of which led to Bro Vee getting a green light to pump up the guys, it's the/his phrasing which dumped u guys, I mean without Lance believing in the guys Mavusana wouldn't hv stood a chance to do what's good at himself aka ukuvumbulula
But bro Vee's concern was that he was not mentioned, yet he fought to put them out there... According to him, he just wanted his role to be acknowledged
Just for clarity, Dave Thompson was the guy who hired me at BMG, He was Lance's and my boss. I reported directly to Dwve. He is the one who had faith in me and gave me full control as a Label Manager/ A&R Manager. Hope this gives clarity.
