    Nice little motor for someone and looking like it’s going to be well prepared. If you are doing a good bit of mileage or want something for delivery service etc could be the ticket. I have found in the past a cold spat of weather can take out a spring.

    Lee, as you intimate the 1.4 HDI/TDCI is a gem. my Fiesta has the same engine with 200,000 miles MORE than your 207 and it still sounds and performs superbly with 55-70mpg according to use.
    you pretty much covered the engine issues though I must add the induction hoses either side of the resonator go (don't buy a cheapy for the PCV side because they disintegrate into the turbo) and ignore the service shedule and do oil changes at 4000 miles because it dirties quite quickly.

    • @DrFod
      @DrFod 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I had a 1.4 HDi and suffered blown injector seals, a disintegrated water pump and fuel leaks all between 40-50k miles.

    • @thatcheapguy525
      @thatcheapguy525 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DrFod Lee talks about the injector seal issue but its a very cheap fix if you do it yourself. the main issue being that you have to clean everything properly, use the injector support sleeves and torque correctly or the problem will keep coming back. nothing different to other engines with the same set up.
      water pumps are a widely known issue on that engine during a certain production period and should be done as a matter of course when the timing belt is changed at around 60k miles.
      where did the fuel leaks come from: weaping joints, disintegrating pipes, fuel primer, something got too hot????

    OK, early 08.
    Mine was on order for 5 months so I must have had one of the very earliest out there.
    Interesting.
    Mine was so bad that I was convinced something major would have to be done.
    I know I'm low mileage user, but every car I had before and after has been good. My friends were convinced it was me, but I went through hell with that car.
    My dealers even called in the Peugeot top men, who wanted to come in and take photos of the old cylinder head, and i also saw it myself.Also new clutch and abs problems at only a couple thousand miles.
    After your comment here I finally accept that I must have been VERY unlucky indeed.

    Before the 207, i owned a 206cc, again with a 1.6cc petrol. No problems in 3 years of ownership.
    The 207 also drank oil like there was no tomorrow, and it was very fussy about only being the exact peugeot oil, with no equivalents.
    I believe its the "prince" engine.

    Low milage on an old car is not always a good thing. It means it's either been used for very short journeys meaning its not had chance to get up to temperature. Or it's spent a lot of time sat about, again not ideal. I had a very low milage 207 as my first car and had nothing but issues with it.

      happens a lot and always a kicker when it does as it’s always a decent tyre it destroys, Sod’s Law 😁

    Ive had this broken spring issue 3 times.... Once on a work car which remained drivable but had to be recovered and fixed, and twice on a fiesta we owned - both broke on starting up and driving out at slow speed thankfully, but the car collapsed onto the wheel and nackered the tyre... Surely a dangerous design or quality flaw somewhere there with those fiestas... Lost confidence in it, was a 2007 model.

      I had it twice on my Xsara Picasso my stepson owned it before me and had a spring go then i owned it and the other one went straight through the tyre aswel iam told it always best to change both at the same time.

    • @lewisbrown51
      @lewisbrown51 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Tolcarne-jl3yp yeah, but the fact that on failure the front collapsed on the wheel is concerning and dangerous.... If that happened at speed I dread to think of the result

    springs never used to break on old cars up until the 90s , at least on Japanese cars, but maybe they started making them of thinner wire, that is stiffer. I had one snap on a Berlingo, quite common on those.

      The roads have got worse. The number of bumps and potholes they deal with has increased, plus the fact lower profile tyres remove the flex in the tyres that removed some of the worst of the bumps that they tyres used to deal with.

      The old springs were just better made and that's going off a Peugeot 405 1.9 and Ford Sierra 1.8 that were used as Taxis. Coils springs snapping all the time was unheard of.

    • @roystonvehicles9129
      @roystonvehicles9129 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes your right, back in the day we never had to change springs, I think there made thinner now for un sprung weight, or just cheaply made.

    Hi Lee, I once had a Xsara cut out on the motorway - Turned out that the spring broke which provided enough shock to trip the engine cut-out! The irony that a safety device created a hazard.
    On your 207, I notice the seats are stained, I have that on my car due to water spills - How do you get rid of these white water stains???

      They chuff on cold start up when the seals are leaking, granted if they has just started to seep you could not tell by sound and would need to check, we do check them all on the 1.4 and 1.6 hdi models as they are common

      look again the outer part where the paint has come off over the years is rusty, but you can see the centre core is fresh. there is no conspiracy going on here at the end of the day a spring broke and we replaced it 🤷

    Any ideas for a bulletproof motor for 7-8k. Not bothered if petrol or diesel, but it's for someone who's disabled so something very easy to get in and out of. Ideally also automatic (not CVT please heard they're awful).
    Looking for some suggestions
