Bebop Scales etude #1 for trumpet or tenor

- Here is a Bebop etude I wrote out over the chord changes to Charlie Parker's "Donna Lee" (which is actually a contrafact of the jazz standard "Indiana"). It utilizes major, minor, and dominant bebop scales.
I played it at two tempos;
1:40 fast version
2:22 slow version
You can always download the IRealPro app to play along at whatever tempo you desire. Another fun thing to do is to write out your own jazz solo over the chord changes to some of your favorite jazz standards (or other tunes).

¡Gracias!
Fantastic work. I'm practicing on alto with irealpro set to Concert Db instead of Ab to use the same sheet music. You should publish a book of bebop etudes for Bb and Eb instruments.
Thank you Manuel. Great suggestion!
Sweet

@@JeffLewisTrumpet hola Jeff, gracias por contestar , mí correo es dcestudiosl@gmail.com . Muchas gracias maestro, aprendo mucho a su lado .
Did you know that donna lee is written by Miles Davis? The publisher made a mistake and put Charlie Parker on as the composer of that tune but Miles David wrote that tune originally... i found out by reading Miles biography book. So, I don’t think he’s lying although, that tune doesn’t really sounds like miles 😄
I read the Miles biography too but forgot all about that! Thanks!
@@JeffLewisTrumpet No problem Jeff! It's a great book ! But i didn't knew it before i've read it in the book.
What's not quite clear to me is whether you slightly tongue each single note at that speed or not?
I wish I could tongue every note at that speed! Something like Clifford Brown would do. However, I do a combination of slurring, slurring every other note, and tonguing some of the top notes of the phrases.
@@JeffLewisTrumpet Thanks for the answer. I understand that except for the top notes it is a free mixture of slurring and tongueing.
Yes! I will practice scales and patterns all tongued with the metronome or the Drumgenius and try to play faster every day. I also play scale patterns very fast with a lot of slurring in a jazz style and try to play as fast as I can.
is there a way to print this out?

Love your work, thank you for a fantastic resource. Hope you don't mind, but I'm sharing on my site.
Thank you! Yes, please share!
Do I tongue it or slur it?
It's a little of both. I try to use a "dah" tongue when I need emphasis to make the line swing.

Thanks!
