Love it, I will use my Kreg system just so they are a bit stronger.

Pocket holes would be stronger. I wanted a thin frame so I could not use pocket holes. If you go about an 1/8th wider should work fine. My main thing on this was I was concerned about rust. I know the outdoor screws aren't supposed to do that... Overall though, once it's dried, and put together with the mesh, it's rather strong if you use a hardwood. The one we used was notty Alder if I recall correctly. 😀I hope you enjoy! I loved making these. Might make more this year. Wanted to have 3 boxes originaly. Might steel your pocket screw idea this time. LOL

It was 4/4 wood cut into strips,(cut offs from another project) so about 1 inch by 1 inch approx. I simply took the thinest side brought the fence up to the blade with the wood in the way and set that as the size. Just so I could get a square witout messuring. But 1X1 inch would be about right. If you want to do pocket screws I would suggest 1x1.5 or 1.5X1.5 inches so you have enough room for the pocket hole jig to cut and not go off the side or be to narow to the side. I hope that helps! :)
