      @ Betty Byers. Hello Betty, your tribute to Timothy was very touching for me. I am 16 years older than Tim, and served with the New Zealand Army Infantry, in Malaysia early 60s, (jungle stuff). God bless you Betty, i wish you all the best in your life. Robert Wilson. RNZIR. Veteran.

    I suppose it’s not PC, but I saw a lot of very short midshipmen in this parade. When I was in service 30 yrs. ago, all the services had minimum height requirements. I guess that no longer applies. I’m not a hypocrite, I’m only 5’6”, but there were several mids who were closer to 5’. They looked kind of silly in formation. We used to pull them from any marching unit - they pulled me. Unless they’re going into submarines, I can’t see them having much of a naval career.

      Would it be sexist to suggest they may have been *women* ?

    • @daniel_sc1024
      @daniel_sc1024 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The minimum height requirement is 58" (4'-10"). I wonder if the lower height requirement is because they allow candidates from other countries (the average height for males in the Philippines is 5'-3")

    • @drheusmann805
      @drheusmann805 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@daniel_sc1024 The lower height requirement is because half of the population for males is still under 5'8". There's also a ten percent low for those under 5'4". Since the military is all-volunteer, they can't segregate based on height because it'd shrink the recruitment pool. Plus, height is also genetic and would be unfair to scrutinize and disqualify on.

    El primer cadete de la ultima escuadra de la segunda compañia es de la escuela naval chilena, otra curiosidad, en la primera escuadra de la compañia nº11 a un cadete se le cae la gorra al pasarla a llevar con su espada ala momento de saludar.

    If they operate midship, who takes care of the bow and stern?

    • @philippaul756
      @philippaul756 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The rank of Midshipman is an ancient one. In the days of sail, boys who wanted to be Naval officers who get their instruction aboard ship. When a ship with these boys aboard engaged in battle, the boys took their battle stations in the center of the main deck. This position was known as “amidship”. The boys amidship role in battle was to rely commands from the ship’s captain who was stationed at the bow of the ship to the personnel at the stern of the of the ship where the steering wheel was located. You can imagine how the noise of the battle required a system of communication from for to aft. The boys amidship would be designated “Midshipmen”. The term Midshipman became a rank and not just a title.

    9:15 man in right rank out of step. 11:55 cadet 'officer' loses his cover while rendering salute with sabre. All-in-all they march like centipedes with broken legs. Quite an expense operation to turn out such sloth.

    I'm an old Infantry Soldier from way back in the 1960s. I am from and still in my old age, 81yo, loyal to my military family and always will be until i die. Honestly, i cannot stand seeing little fart assed females portraying themselves like, tough guy men, when we know it is all fake. It just puts me off watching a part of my life that was very important to me. Men are men and women are women, and never the twain shall meet. "Mark Twain'. Robert. RNZIR. Infantry. Veteran.
