One of the main reasons clothing wears out is that it is often made with synthetic materials. When all clothing was made of pure cotton, linen, wool or silk it would last for years if taken care of. Also, like Courtney said, wash in cold water, hang dry is best. A mild biodegradable soap is nice too. A neat fact is that some older women and men have "vintage clothing" made of pure materials which are still in use today.

If your black shirts are fading, you can re-dye them! :) Hanging them dry keeps them black longer but a dye bath will perk tired ones right back up

I do very much appreciate my clothes! They keep me warm, which makes me happy. I don't own a dryer or use fabric softener, but my clothes still look drab after just 3-5 washes. However it is the only sustainable alternative in my size in my country so I'm stuck with it for now. I'm learning how to sew my own clothes so I hope I'll have a better alternative in the future :)

@@DigitalNomadOnFIRE I use mild detergent, and not a lot, because I have an eco wash ball. It contains no perfume. I wash on 30 degrees Celsius. I'll look into the spin cycle. Though the slowest probably won't work as my clothes will be soaking wet and I can only dry them inside my house (I don't have a garden, balcony etc).

    Quality over quantity every time.

I hand wash all my clothes! :) I’ve had dresses that haven’t changed in terms of physical characteristics and still look brand new. I would actually disagree about the “love” aspects towards clothing. I actually love my dresses lol I might not love them like I love my sister or I’m not IN love with them but I’ll actually cry if something happened to them and as silly as that might sound I worked hard for the money they cost me and the amount of time I took to decide on them. I have Christy Dawn and Dôen dresses and if you buy from these two brands you’ll understand why I’d cry if something happened to them lmao anyhow I only have like 5 dresses and I wear them ALL the time and even though these two brands make great quality clothes but I wear them so often I know if I didn’t hand wash they would be torn apart now

Does anybody have any tips that work when living in a very humid climate? I literally live on a swamp and hang-drying just does not work except for one or two weeks in the autumn - the rest of the year, forget it. The water just does not evaporate. You can hang them up with the dehumidifier on and even then they're still damp two days later and by then they're moldy. I and all my friends in the area have to dry our clothes twice, on high heat, with a dry towel thrown in there for extra absorption, the instant after getting them out of the washer, to have the faintest chance of them not going moldy. It's hell on clothes (not to mention the electric bill and the environment!) and I'm trying in vain to find a solution :( Unfortunately moving isn't an option atm or I would lol.

Wash clothes with hands and not in machine 😀
