Holystone really needs to up their game if they wanna get close to DJI I mean fimi mini 3 and the x8 pro and the atom is doing rlly welll against DJI specially the fimi
This year is going to be interesting for this segment of drones thx to those tracking and camera upgrades. The Fimi mini 3 and this thing follow the same type of improvement pattern(similar manufacturing), so I can see Potensic releasing an ATOM 2 later on too. I wonder how the camera would compare to the Atom in low-light or night time videography?
Agreed, this segment keeps getting better. The cameras, gimbals and functionality keeps improving. I imagine the low light would be similar, not a huge sensor on either. Maybe I should do a comparison vid once the HS900 gets a couple of firmware fixes behind it. I'm looking forward to the next ATOM upgrade as well, I'm voting for "ATOM Pro" with close to a 1" sensor. 🤙🤙
Ah heck, was ready to pick up a DJI Mini 3, but now thoroughly confused! HS900, Potensic ATOM now in the mix. Would LOVE to see a good comparison video of all these :)
Thank you for doing this review and all of your reviews. I noticed about 1 minute 57 seconds into the video, the view of the drone appears to show a remote ID module sitting on top? That made me interested in two questions: Does it have remote ID built in? and if not, is that module cosidered in the weight of 249g or does that module take it over the 249 limit?
Hello, thanks for the kind words! 1) no remote ID built in. 2) The weight is always takeoff weight so anything added, in this case the module, takes it above 249 g. This doesn't matter though because if anything other than 100% recreational is being done, and testing or creating a review about a product would certainly not be considered recreational by the FAA (it does not pass the intent of the flight, _for fun only_ ), then it needs to be registered and RID broadcasting, regardless of the weight (and part 107 as well of course, since it is not a recreational flight). Hope this helps!
As much as I'd love to see all hobby grade drones deliver what their makers say they will I don't recall any of them actually doing so. BTW, did you do a camera gimble setup before you flew? That might explain the horizon issue.
Looks interesting, really like that it has a follow mode, I wish more companies would do that. A little pricy for the single battery but if they fix some of the issues it could be a possibility.
5 minutes into the video the battery was dead? Wait you started to fly at minute 1:55 and on 4:11 you said you recharge the battery where's all the footage?
I used that time to fly around and get the video footage shown early in the video, there was a lot that I just cut out to keep the video compact, not a fan of 30 minute videos. Did 2 battery time tests that day, one was 21 minutes with the RID module on, the other was 20 minutes with the second charge and no RID module. Didn't think about that it probably looks a bit out of sequence the way I edited it...
Dude, i hate myself for finding your video after sinking money into this drone. I truly didnt have hardly a problem one with this drone until 40 to 50 flights in. Like you, i also calibrated gyro and compass before each and every flight and never experienced much of any toliet bowl type effect, the laggy control input reaction was always noticeable but not intolerable by anymeans, at least for me and this being basically the only real drone ive had experience with. But then randomly in the middle of flight one evening the thing does one high speed massive arc into a heavily wooded area, and would not respond to any controller input, the end result was basically a dangling gimbal and a cracked arm. I called holystone and they said theyd do a one time replacement, but not until i had to pay the 67 dollars of shipping and send them the tracking number. Ive since recieved my replacement and within the first 10 flights the same thing happened to where suddenly it said the compass seemed to be off and it blasted another tree, this time the rear end of the drone has a crack down the entire tail end of the drone. Also just recently one kf the two batteries supplied became defective, it shows its got a charge connection but refuses any actual increase in the batteries charge. I have never watched a more spot on review of anything ever before in my life. At first, i thought this review was going to be like every other video ive seen of the hs 600, stating how great of a drone it was especially at its price point. Im slightly bummed i spent the 400+ dollars on this drone that led me to your video, but your honesty was refreshing and i hope anyone considering this drone or any drone made by this company watches this video 1ST.
Sorry to hear you had issues that resulted in multiple crashes, that sucks for sure. Thanks for noticing that my reviews are not like others in that I try to be as honest as I can. The way I look at creating reviews it two fold, on one side I want to let others know my honest experience so they can be aware of the experiences and impressions I had that may help with a buying or operation experience, but the review is also a test that is meant to give honest feedback to the company as well (that is my engineering background showing through). Many times they reach out after we publish and I imagine aren't too excited when we have issues, but hopefully they use the data to improve the product/firmware/app so it is better in the future too... Holy Stone did reach out multiple times after this video and asked some questions and did update some firmware already so I have to give them credit for that, but sounds like they have a bit of work to do yet...
Something I may have missed in my TH-cam research, or maybe is just too obvious for most, is that after filming a 4K video with a Mini 4, I discovered that several platforms cannot display 4K, including my wife's Android tablet, my sister-in-law's older Android phone, and my own Windows 10 laptop without first downloading a video app like VLC that has the proper CODECs. Since I can live without the higher resolution, my solution to sharing videos with family and friends will be to reset the Mini 4 to film in 1080. Who knew?!
Excellent flight covering the remote identification on the takeoff I saw the remote id module . The correct way of be commercially legal for the purpose of this video demonstration flight with the intention of monetize
That is the blessing and the curse of new products, you want to get to market fast and fix the small bugs later, but you don't get a second chance to make a first impression either... 🤷♂ If they do a big firmware update I'll do an update test and see how it goes... 🤞
@@AlienDrones I could understand if it was a brand-new company and they needed to get their product to market to start making money. But Holy Stone has been around for a little bit. They can afford to hit pause to make sure it's right. That leave the impression for me they don't care about getting it right the first time. I can tell you they do not have a good reputation in the drone groups I'm in on FaceBook.
Well it sure looks promising. Hopefully they make the updates and make it a top-notch drone. It's a little tough to fault them on a pre-production drone. Thanks for your honest review as always. 🤙
Yeah, $600 would be a bit stiff, BUT they do have a $200 coupon available now and add the Alien Drones Coupon for another $108 and it's around $230, which is decent as this is a good flyer... th-cam.com/video/tBd9rn2QuVU/w-d-xo.html
You mean the DJI Mini 2? Yes, that's a good performer and the reduced price makes it attractive. Though being honest it is 3-4 year old technology too, and making reviewers say it is a new release is kind of sketchy.
