Thank you, Father. God bless these young priests who are not afraid to show their love and service for God, especially during these times when a lot of persecutions of Christians are happening, not only here in the US, but in other parts of the world. Even among us Catholics, where there is division between traditional and new order. It's very sad that a lot of women have turned their backs on God, because of them being pro-choice, pro abortion and supporting LGBTQ and transgenderism. But it's also nice to know that so many young men are converting to Catholicism and even going into priesthood. It used to be that the women or mothers were the ones teaching their family about God. Now, they don't even bother to talk about God to their families. I pray that these brave priests wearing their garbs will attract more people into returning if not converting many to God. These priests are the social workers that actually do more in helping people not just to get back on their feet but, most of all, help to save their souls. I pray that God will guide and protect these young priests and all priests that they may do the works our Lord Jesus Christ have instructed His apostles and disciples to do. And I also pray for our Pope and all the bishops, that the Holy Spirit may give them the gift of wisdom to know God's truth, the gift of knowledge to know God's will and purpose, the gift of counsel that they may use the right judgment in using the gifts of knowledge and wisdom, and the gift of piety that they may truly serve God and not themselves, and lastly the gift of fear of the Lord, which encompasses all the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit, that with fear of the Lord, our Pope and those under him will serve, honor and worship and most specially obey God's commandments and His will and the teachings of His Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. God bless you, Father, and may God help your TH-cam channel to propagate His Words and teach and evangelize thousands of people. ✝️🛐🛐🛐🛐

Northern Idaho has several Latin Mass churches. These churches are not in opposition to Vatican II and operate under the authority and approval of the local bishop. I went to confession at one one Saturday afternoon and was surprised to see the large church packed with young people. It looked like a youth rally, but was apparently just a Saturday afternoon. Young people are attracted to Traditional Catholic practices and don't want our faith dumbed down or updated for a modern audience. They crave stability, holiness and truth.

As a lay boy, I find it one of the most inspiring and beautiful things to see a clergyman in clericals. The symbolism is more than appropriate for a priest's role, and it also evokes a sense of authority, in the best sense possible. You feel like that's someone you can rely on to guide you. Besides, we see so many extravagant and obscene styles out there that any sort of humility and modesty in clothing is a comforting sight.

This is not about a collar, but the garb that priests are supposed to wear, and that is the cossack, which at one time was commonly worn. Today, people in the secular realm do not like to wear clothing. And when they do, it's very abbreviated. T-shits, shorts, leggings, etc. One begins to think that the reason so many are leaving temporal climes for warmer areas in the country, is not just for warmer weather, but so they can go about their lives in all manners of undress, and not bother themselves with the chore of wearing apparel.

I also remember hearing of my great uncle who served in Mexico as a priest. He was a Franciscan priest and had to wear civilian clothing because priests could be arrested and many were killed in the Mexican Revolution 1910-1917.

@@margaretklos8937 not that I've ever heard of. However, depending on where he is from, his local Bishop has the power to legislate and enforce such a rule. Why he would do such a thing is another matter entirely.

@@frsamfrench from what the priest said, this was a law passed by the Australian legislature. It was not a church law.
IIRC, there was supposed to be a fine of £ 10 if a Catholic cleric wore a cassock. Only the Orthodox and Anglicans were allowed to wear a cassock.
Apparently, this was when Australia was vehemently anti-Catholic. (And considering what's happening there with the govt taking over a Catholic hospital, maybe it still is, sadly.)

I live in a small town. We have 1 priest that covers the church in our town and another nearby small town. The priest that was here when we moved here appeared to be in his late 50’s or 60’s. He wore street clothes when he came for home visits. My husband and I are disabled and cannot get to Mass most of the time. We had been assigned a new priest and didn’t know. He’s in his late 20’s, early 30’s. He wears his clerical clothes. The first time we met him he was even wearing a cassock. I was very impressed. And he’s traditional also unlike the previous one. God has blessed us.

There was a priest I knew in the late 1970s or early 80s, who made a point to ride on a bus wearing his clericals. He didn’t have a destination, but he did he trips so people could approach him as a priest. People talked to him on the bus… people who would not come into a church. He told one story of a man who had been away from the faith for years and had a tortured life. He poured out his heart to him because he was a priest. When the man got to his stop the priest decided that was his stop too. The man made his confession in a quiet area near the bus stop and was at church the next Sunday.

I have strong reason to suspect that the public sentiment of clerical dress meaning that priests are “lording their priesthood over the laity” was engineered by the very same people who have caused the rapid decline of the faith in the West. The collar has always been about being a visible presence of Christ and His Church in the world, showing that the priest does not “belong to himself”. God bless you for being a witness to the Gospel, Father. :)

I am a minister (I hope it's the correct English word, if no then sorry) in my local church and one of the first things I do once I enter is putting my surplice on. Even if there's still an hour until a mass I love to show the people that I am here to serve. Sometimes people ask me whether they can practice something a bit before the celebration (like a Psalm or something) because they see me in white and don't see the priest. Thanks to this I can tell them it's ok if they want to practice or something.
If I used wrong vocabulary, I'm sorry, I'm from a non-English speaking country and don't talk much about those things in English.

From a Protestants perspective, amen! I agree. Wear the garb only for as many people to see as possible.
The reason for moving away from wearing religious garb in public was intent. If your intentions are to let all around you know that you have a good message you want to share with them and you’re open to talk with them, THAT is a great reason to wear the garb in public.
If your intent is to show off your status as clergy. Something is wrong and you need to pray on why you need that outward expression.
It’s the heart that matters. Why are you doing it, why are you not doing it.
I could also argue not wearing displays of your religion is worse! In a secular culture, hiding your role as clergy is denying Christ.
So it’s clear to me that the intent behind the decision is what matters.
I actually wish more Protestant churches could do this for the reasons I expressed, but congregational Protestant churches have no special garb. It’s potentially a missed opportunity to invite someone to talk to you who may be in need. Seeing that collar in line as a Starbucks while they’re struggling through something could potentially open a door. The Protestant pastor in plain clothes would miss that opportunity. It’s a hypothetical and not perfect. But I’ve thought on this quite a lot.
