    Cool seeing all the exhaust pipes, especially that giant one in the hole!

    On the first engine notice how well the flywheel is balanced. That amazes me how they could do that back in with the technology they had. Also nice touch putting the exhaust in there. Very we'll composed video.

    What a great job they have done in restoring these vintage engines. Thanks for making this video!

    That is the original lighting in the building, as it was when the entire building was in place on the lease in Windy City. It's just a pipe off the gas line with holes drilled in it that is lit. The pulsing occurs when the engine takes gas from the line into the cylinder on the intake stroke. This is a really awesome place to be after dark, will get video at this year's shows.

    I love historical engines.More to look at tan my modern car.The same with computers.The oldies had relays and vacuum tubes. One could read the circuit diagram just by watching it.Now we just discard the whole machine when one tiny microcirquit fails.

      Same with cars. Cars of today are built in such a way that replacing a part for 200 bucks would cost more than just getting another car.

    The Worthington triplex pump at the end pumped water into the water treatment plant in Brookville, PA. The Otto is to believed to be the largest single-cylinder engine remaining in the world.

      More specifically, the largest single cylinder spark-ignition engine in the world. There are larger known examples of the diesel or semidiesel nature.

    ***** That's the original lighting for the building. This building was disassembled and removed from the oil fields of Northwestern Pennsylvania, and with no electricity, that's how the building was lit.

    Don,
    Thanks a lot for the video. I love all that kind of stuff! The opening included some great old diesel-electric locomotives as well as a steam-powered Heisler. The Am Trak was the most modern -- their own creation called the Genesis with is nothing more than a GE Dash 7 with a custom car body. I also love the old stationary engines. They have a display of old tractors, stationary engines, etc. at the state fair in Sacramento very July. I hope to go this year and post my first TH-cam video! Thanks again!
    Regards,
    Dave

    Very beautiful ......... and great piece of film , uncluttered by commentary . Nice to hear the exhaust notes also , with their odd rhythmic notes . Keep up the good work , you guys. Any chance of a few more stats ?& / or may be a 5 min on each one , details of components, bearing blocks , fly wheel webbing, fuel consumption etc .

    the engine that shows up about 4:30, I think its the 65 HP one. whats the deal with the open flame up high on the wall of the building? Its pulsing and it almost looks like its pulsing with the rhythm of the engine

  • @AKATenn
    @AKATenn 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Were these engines in this good of condition when they were being used on a regular bases? constantly maintained to be sparkly shiny?
    like for instance people don't regularly clean the engines in their cars so they look like they did the day they were made...

    From 8:13 to 8:27 - strangest magneto based ignition system I have ever seen! Is it multiple spark when the lever "bounces"?

    • @renegadeoflife87
      @renegadeoflife87 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. The magneto armature is held between two springs, and the lever twists the armature winding up those springs. When released it bounces, making multiple impulses in a row. The voltages are much lower than on a modern ignition system, firing several sparks rapidly had a better chance of securing ignition. Today's ignition systems run much higher voltages that can fire even dirty or damp sparkplugs, and the timing is too precise to allow that sort of mechanism to be used anyway. Even then some electronic schemes actually do fire multiple sparks even now, usually for emissions-related reasons.

    there are two manny exhausts in this video which ones are which the first and last are obvious but the Middle Engine he shows two different exhausts what's with that

    • @tionestavalleyprods
      @tionestavalleyprods  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The first set of pipes on the Blaisdell are the breathers between the compression and power cylinders, they make the rhythmic chuffing noise. The larger diameter pipe in the pit is the actual exhaust pipe from the Blaisdell.
      Thanks for watching!

    Hello,
    What is the engine name/ type for the locomotive shown from 0:40 - 0:44?

    • @machintelligence
      @machintelligence 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a Shay locomotive. These were gear reduction locomotives designed for low speed use on steep grades. There were a couple of them in use on the Georgetown loop narrow gauge line in Colorado about 20 years ago, but I don't know where they are now.
      You can see the name plate at 0:43

      ^This guy [Cornish] literally has nothing better to do than log on EACH and EVERY "old engine" site and trash-talk old American engines, and brag about the "superiority of British engineering."
      Must suck to be that bitter! I mean, of course I'm partial to my nation's inventions...but it'd be cool to stroll about the UK and check out the Old Iron. You have to pity a person so bitter that they can't simply have a good time watching "kinetic history" for a day, letting the chest-pounding patriotism "take a day off."
      I'm just blessed to live essentially next door to this place in Coolspring PA, and drive up to see 'em on a summer day. If I run into any of you, I'd be glad to talk all about it over a cup of tea!
