Dan you are not alone. I too went through the end of life introduction. I was briefed on in-hospital pallative care. I was told that in order to be assigned a hospital bed on the pallative care ward the doctor needed to give me 3 months or less to live. If I do live longer then 3 months in the pallative care ward then I will need to move to a nursing home. After receiving this info I immediately contacted a lawyer and had my Will completed that also included naming my power of attorney which is my sister. Dan once I completed the Will package and got my affairs in order I put it all aside and forgot about it. You should do the same, spend a few days researching getting everything in order and get it done and then do not think about it anymore. I completed this end of life preparation thinking I had only 6 months to a year to live. It's now been 8 years later and I'm still alive and kicking. The same could happen to you my friend. Cheers.
jazz ray I still have the cancer. It's metastatic meaning it spread from my kidney to my lungs and also to my brain. When I found out it had spread to the brain I immediately had radiation treatment. Since they found it when the tumour was only 3 mm the radiation completly destroyed the tumour within 2 months. My CT scan of my brain after radiation treatment showed the small 3 mm tumor was completely gone. Zapped!!. You see the key here is to detect any new tumors when they are very small so thats why I get scanned every 3 months. In regards to my lungs I have 2 tumors and both of them are stable. My cancer originated in my right kidney. That kidney was removed and for 8 years now I have got by on only one kidney. That's ok though because once you remove one of your kidneys the remaining kidney grows stronger or larger and basically does the job for two. My cancer is terminal. Because the cancer spread from the kidney to my lungs and brain there is no cure. It's too late for a cure once it spreads from the primary site. I have been told by my oncologist that one day my cancer will eventually take my life. I have accepted that. However until that happens I have decided to live my life to it's fullest. I have travelled the world and have just bought a new motorcycle. I try not to worry about the future. Instead I'm living in the present moment right here right now.

This is a common side effect Dan. I’m on long term low grade chemotherapy drug for past 2 years and I cannot stomach coffee ☕️ anymore and I love coffee! I hope the sickness was a one off for you, make sure your taking your steroids and anti sickness at correct time, usually at least a full hour before you eat! So hope this improves for you pal. Take any help that’s offered if it helps Dan. Thinking of you and wishing you all the best xxx
captain planet thank you but I’ve unintentionally mislead with my comment to Dan, I don’t have cancer, I have psoriatic arthritis (bit like rheumatoid)which means my immune system attacks me! Resulting in inflammation and deteriorating joints which are starting to require surgery now. One of my ongoing treatments is Methotrexate which I get to self inject every week, it dampens down my immune system to try to slow down the joint degenerative process. I too admire Dan immensely and know the mental suffering he’s enduring must be terrible. He’s such a lovely lovely guy it’s so very sad. Sorry for not pointing out in my first comment what I had I don’t usually talk about it as people generally don’t know much about it but didn’t mean anyone to think I have cancer. Xxx

It's not uncommon for food to become really nasty tasting through chemo treatment. I took care of my brother when he went through his for his brain tumor. About the time he could eat again without everything being disgusting he would have to go for his chemo treatment again. You're such a brave man for videotaping your journey and also leaving a legacy for your family to look back on

I can see you processing when you talk about hospice. It's a difficult topic, and it's an uncomfortable topic. You're never ready. It's something that we are "forced" into really. I hope the chemo gives you the extra time you're looking for. Your videos are amazing and I always anticipate the next. I admire your strength. My thoughts and prayers are always with you.
Yep.... I called it "Chemo Nose". Everything had a horrible metallic taste and smell. Still happens sometimes. No advice, just empathy. Sorry you're feeling so sick, Dan. We're all here for you.

Don't want to "tempt fate", but worth reporting that my mum had a recurrence of cervical cancer, from which our delightful GP took avid pleasure in telling me she had basically no survival chance. Chemo and radiotherapy later (the radiotherapy almost finished her off) and her latest scans show no sign of cancer. So things can work out for the best / better.
I have been following you for a little while. You are a special, dear young man. I am a retired nurse in Ohio and I have taken care of many people in over 40 yrs and it never gets easier to see people go through what you are experiencing...especially young people. You and your dear Mum are in my thoughts...only my best thoughts. Thank you for sharing your journey. We all learn from it.

A tip from my chemo days i learnt if you eat pineapple Dan it kind of relieves the horrible tastes in your mouth, I wanted to stuff my face through chemo Dan but it was all rubbish i wanted ie.. carrot cake , strong cheese and chineses.!...also nothing tasted good at all either even the stuff i wanted! thinking of you, you can do this! xx

Every time I see these videos they seem so surreal. I can’t believe you are gone. I’m a stranger and have only found your channel months ago, however I’m deeply saddened and feel tremendous pain for the loss of you for your friends and family. I’m so sorry to those who feel the horrible pain, I can not understand this life.

Please tell your doctor about your vomiting. There are meds to help you like Compazine and Zofran. You don't have to suffer through this. You are an amazing man and set a high bar for the rest of us.

I am sorry to hear Dan has passed. I am glad he is at peace. My grandpa had bone cancer and had chemo and said he felt like his insides were being cooked. I hate anyone has to go this. I watched my Aunt go through stage 4 pancreatic cancer and 3 or 4 months after she was diagnosed she was gone it was horrible.
Dan's positivity, courage, and sense of humor in the face of unbelievable adversity should be an inspiration to us all when we are faced with our own trials and tribulations in life. What an incredible role model he was.

Somehow I literally stumbled on these videos and I see this brave young man has now died - my prayers to his family. I am a retired Hospice counselor. We did not have inpatient but, rather, cared for people in their homes. A majority of our cancer patients were admitted only a day or so before dying and I never got to meet them so I primarily was there for their family and loved ones. Hospice is a wonderful organization - some are owned by hospitals and/or large corporations (the one I worked for was a small, independent Hospice begun by a former pastor) but the feedback I've heard from people over the years from many different locations is very positive re: Hospice care. If I could give any advice/information I would say to not be afraid of Hospice care. Many people think that if they go to Hospice they are giving up but studies over time have shown that people usually feel much better with palliative care (ie. pain relief and comfort care) and may live longer since they're not dealing with pain. One of my patients, a man around 40, had hepatitis and was not expected to live longer than six months (Hospice criteria) but survived and left Hospice. That being said, I so admire this man's courage.
I'm so sorry man, I've been watching your videos for a couple weeks now. I don't even know what to say on an online comment like this. I am close to your age, and watching your videos puts things into perspective for me. It makes me realize that while we may think we are still young, anything can happen at a moment's notice to change our lives forever, or even shorten them drastically. When I watch you videos it actually scares me a bit, but more than anything it makes me think of you, and wonder everyday what the next update will be. This is the only TH-cam channel I watch that I can honestly say I care about, not just for the content but genuinely care about the human being on the other side of the camera. I suspect this is the case for many of your viewers. It goes beyond watching a video with you, it's like there is a real connection and the viewer can really empathise with your situation. I really hope this treatment you are trying works, this earth needs more people like you.

It's not uncommon for food to become really nasty tasting through chemo treatment. I took care of my brother when he went through his for his brain tumor. About the time he could eat again without everything being disgusting he would have to go for his chemo treatment again. You're such a brave man for videotaping your journey and also leaving a legacy for your family to look back on

I can see you processing when you talk about hospice. It's a difficult topic, and it's an uncomfortable topic. You're never ready. It's something that we are "forced" into really. I hope the chemo gives you the extra time you're looking for. Your videos are amazing and I always anticipate the next. I admire your strength. My thoughts and prayers are always with you.
Yep.... I called it "Chemo Nose". Everything had a horrible metallic taste and smell. Still happens sometimes. No advice, just empathy. Sorry you're feeling so sick, Dan. We're all here for you.

Don't want to "tempt fate", but worth reporting that my mum had a recurrence of cervical cancer, from which our delightful GP took avid pleasure in telling me she had basically no survival chance. Chemo and radiotherapy later (the radiotherapy almost finished her off) and her latest scans show no sign of cancer. So things can work out for the best / better.

I am a retired nurse in Ohio and I have taken care of many people in over 40 yrs and it never gets easier to see people go through what you are experiencing...especially young people. A tip from my chemo days i learnt if you eat pineapple Dan it kind of relieves the horrible tastes in your mouth, I wanted to stuff my face through chemo Dan but it was all rubbish i wanted ie.. carrot cake , strong cheese and chineses.!...also nothing tasted good at all either even the stuff i wanted! thinking of you, you can do this! xx

Every time I see these videos they seem so surreal. I can’t believe you are gone. I’m a stranger and have only found your channel months ago, however I’m deeply saddened and feel tremendous pain for the loss of you for your friends and family. Please tell your doctor about your vomiting. There are meds to help you like Compazine and Zofran. You don't have to suffer through this. You are an amazing man and set a high bar for the rest of us.

I am sorry to hear Dan has passed. I am glad he is at peace. My grandpa had bone cancer and had chemo and said he felt like his insides were being cooked. I hate anyone has to go this. I watched my Aunt go through stage 4 pancreatic cancer and 3 or 4 months after she was diagnosed she was gone it was horrible.
Stay strong man, you're such a nice guy and it pains me to see this happen to you, but keep fighting it!

Lots of love and prayers dear. My brother has been battling cancer for ten years over and over. Hang in there God is great.
Somehow I literally stumbled on these videos and I see this brave young man has now died - my prayers to his family. I am a retired Hospice counselor. We did not have inpatient but, rather, cared for people in their homes. A majority of our cancer patients were admitted only a day or so before dying and I never got to meet them so I primarily was there for their family and loved ones. Hospice is a wonderful organization - some are owned by hospitals and/or large corporations (the one I worked for was a small, independent Hospice begun by a former pastor) but the feedback I've heard from people over the years from many different locations is very positive re: Hospice care.
If I could give any advice/information I would say to not be afraid of Hospice care. Many people think that if they go to Hospice they are giving up but studies over time have shown that people usually feel much better with palliative care (ie. pain relief and comfort care) and may live longer since they're not dealing with pain. One of my patients, a man around 40, had hepatitis and was not expected to live longer than six months (Hospice criteria) but survived and left Hospice. That being said, I so admire this man's courage.
I'm so sorry man, I've been watching your videos for a couple weeks now. I don't even know what to say on an online comment like this. I am close to your age, and watching your videos puts things into perspective for me. It makes me realize that while we may think we are still young, anything can happen at a moment's notice to change our lives forever, or even shorten them drastically. When I watch you videos it actually scares me a bit, but more than anything it makes me think of you, and wonder everyday what the next update will be. This is the only TH-cam channel I watch that I can honestly say I care about, not just for the content but genuinely care about the human being on the other side of the camera. I suspect this is the case for many of your viewers. It goes beyond watching a video with you, it's like there is a real connection and the viewer can really empathise with your situation. I really hope this treatment you are trying works, this earth needs more people like you.
