    Thank you for this video. I followed your instructions and everything worked great! One detail I'll pass along. The display backlight slowly pulses on and off when your batteries are charging. This detail is not in the directions that come with the battery monitor. I discovered online that some people find it annoying at night if the display is located in your RV. I mounted mine in the battery bay and not in the trailer for this reason. Thanks again for an easy the follow and accurate video! Cheers!

    I just finished installing a QWork battery monitor. It is just like the AiLi. The monitor itself, the shunt, the instructions, and all connections are exactly like the AiLi. The shunt was a 500w and I needed to use a 13 foot extension wire. The QWork is about $10.00 more than the AiLi. Amazon was out of the AiLi but they had the QWork. My installation was in a travel trailer. I watched this video a number of times and it made the installation easy! Thank you very much for a clear and concise installation video. I’ll be boondocking for four days. The new monitor will allow me to keep track of battery usage.

    Hi! If you accurate want to monitor, and really to know how much percent you have, you must to programm the monitor when your inverter or charger is tuned off!!! Now you have a fault measurement. 14,5 Volts x 210 Ah = 3045 Wh and that is your 100% . But when your charger not running your Battery have around 12,5 V x 210 Ah = 2625 Wh! Fault size: 16% ! But the video is great! Cheers

    I have new GrandDesign Imagine that has a battery monitor in it. It looks the same but is Furrion branded. Just got it programmed tonight with help from this video. Turned out I needed to press the A/Ah but twice before holding for three seconds which I figured out watching your video. Manual is not the best.
    It wasn’t working when I got the trailer. Didn’t realize it until later since they placed it in the basement control center. Had to trace the battery negative backwards to locate the shunt. Which was buried. When I found that there was an inline fuse that was blown so an easy fix. Not worth driving back to the dealer.

      I have 270AH and have this capacity monitor wired, though I wondering there’s an issues, reason being is I can run inverter/laptop & speaker, projector, pS4, and more, all while seeing little drop on the monitor after hours of use! Maybe I’m just too used to the old lead acid truck battery, which had me anxious all the time. This new setup seams amazing.

  • @Scubaken2022

    Slightly off topic but I’m just a bit curious on your battery setup because I’m trying to set up my trailer. The instructions you provided were excellent.
    That looks like a parallel set up but why is there more then one heavy wire on each of the positives? I thought when you do a parallel set up you go positive to positive, negative to negative, then with the positive from the coach to one of the batteries and the negative from the coach to the other battery to allow equalized charging.

    • @RVHabit
      @RVHabit  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RVHabit Hey thanks for the reply. I'm building a camper and for power I have one of those "solar generators" that I use for other things. I would just be hooking up my RV fan and small 12v fridge straight to this battery with a fuse in there, but that's it.. So yes, I would be drawing power from this battery, just not through a complex system.

    Hi! Is this battery monitor calculating the remaining batt capacity by estimating from voltage (what most cheap monitors do) or actually calculating from Ah going IN/OUT over time (what Victron does)? Many cheap monitors do actually show either positive or negative current to tell you if you are in net charging/consumption mode - but when displaying capacity % they still estimate from V.

    • @RVHabit
      @RVHabit  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This monitor is measuring amp hours out and amp hours in. It does not estimate voltage.

    One thing many of us forget is that with any lead acid (including AGM) batteries, we can only use 50% of the rated capacity. If we use more than that we can damage the batteries. I recommend you decrease the Amp Hours to 1/2 of what you set in the video. Thank you for the video - I just ordered this monitor from Amazon.

    • @RVHabit
      @RVHabit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes Steve any lead acid battery should only be used to 50 percent of its capacity. Thanks for watching.

      I read the comments just to see if anybody else thought the same thingI just bought one myself and I'm going to set it to 50% of the total amp hours. I have a total of 140 amp hours so I'm going to set mine to 70 amp hours at 100% on the battery meter. Thanks

    • @pknyryan

    • @prins2x
      @prins2x 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe from watching another video there is a setting where you can set your 0% reference voltage where you like it. Not sure if changing your capacity might throw other data out of spec?

    • @charliewatts6895
      @charliewatts6895 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is good to know. I still run a lead acid battery so will not let it get below 50 per cent. It has a built in battery monitor. That being said I really like my LiFePO battery as it doesn't have this problem (although for long-term non-use, better that the battery is left at 70 per cent charge rather than 100 per cent).

    Great install video. installed this on a 100 AH LifePo4 Lithium battery for on a kayak. I have concerns regarding the digital display part itself. I can keep it in the front hatch out of the weather, but it will be inconvenient to use there. Is there anyway to waterproof the readout itself that you know of?
    Another question I had is regarding the large shunt bolts themselves. Do you by chance know the specs on those bolts? I’m pretty sure I will need longer ones so I can fit all the negative wires onto the shunt. Thank you.

I would like to mount mine in my battery compartment which is on a track under the cab of the vehicle and has a plastic shroud around it so water will not get in, but the batteries do show some road dirt over time. If the shunt is sensitive to that, I would need to create some sort of enclosure. Thanks!

    Your links are messed up and take you to wrong supply’s needed. Here and on your website. I had to send back several things and figure out what I really needed.
    Battery Interconnect Cable link 5/16-Inch Lugs is wrong the shunt needs 3/8” lugs.
    Wrong link here too- 12AWG Inline Fuse Holder with a 30 amp fuse. Is way to big and the wire will not work with the shunt. Instead you need 16 AWG Gauge with 10 AMP Fuse.

    Thanks for this video! I do have a question that you might be able to confirm with me. Im planning on running a Renogy DC-DC 30A charger w/ MPPT to monitor my portable battery generator box in the bed of my truck. The primary purpose of this power box is to power my ARB fridge, and be recharged while driving and/or solar. I will have a few 12V acc. outlets mounted to the box for convenience. The Renogy charger requires negatives from solar, starter battery, and house battery to be attached to one of 4 specific poles on the renogy unit, the other three poles on the renogy unit are specific to solar, starter battery, and house battery positive leads. I have decided to do a ground buss bar in the box so that i can combine all those negatives and have one single negative wire to the DC-DC charger to keep it simple and clean (still with me??).. if i want to monitor the house battery in the box, where do i mount the shunt? Do i put the B side of the shunt directly on the neg. house batt terminal, and then connect a negative lead from the p side of the shunt down to the negative buss bar? That would essentially have all grounds going to one ground source. Make sense to me, what do you think? Email me at jkhartel3@gmail.com if you can be more open for advice. Id be happy to share my setup for better understanding. Thanks again and great video.

      The negative should go to the P on the shunt. This allows the meter to calculate how much power is going back into the batteries.

    Lou,Lou,Lou, Perfect info at just the right time. As I sit here , back at Hill AIr Force Base in Utah...on the way back from ABQ Balloon Fiesta, guess what has happened? The flooded house batteries, just gave me their last breath. They will not hold a charge longer than a couple of hours of trickle output current. I am now going to AGM because of the no maintenance and longer batt life, quicker charging....blah blah bla. When I get back to Portland I will be needing to get them and a monitor for them. Not sure on the brand of AGM yet, but like you I do not need to invest in Li-Ion. Great vid great time. P.S. my friend...Take the watch off when working on that hi current stuff. I know you know, just a friendly reminder my friend. Might wait til after winter to do batts, but will do the monitor while it’s in winter storage...kinda. Thx again my friend.

      Hi Bruce it's funny you say that about the watch. I wear it so much I didn't realize it till I was editing the video. I will say two things. AGM is so great with basically connect it and forget it. The pleasure of no maintenance is worth the extra money. As for this battery monitor I can not recommend it enough. I love this thing. It gives current volts, amps remaining, life in a percentage and the best part is it tells you how many amps are either coming into batteries or out of batteries. So I finally know exactly how many amps I am using and how many amps are coming in. Best $40 I've spent on my RV. I am putting it on my list of must have upgrades. Have a safe trip home, Lou.

    I just got 2 new 6v batteries and I'm going to program the meter for the new batteries. Did you ever set up the Preset Voltage Setting on yours? Also when you put in the AH capacity how do you know that number is the actual AH capacity of the battery? The sticker on the battery is only a reference not the actual. If the actual AH capacity is 90AH and you set the meter to 100Ah then you could be discharging your battery to 40% when the meter says 50%. Sorry for all the questions I'm just trying to wrap my head around the settings in the instructions.

After wiring everything I see where the display pulsates while charging is happening but when I put my rig in storage I always turn the main power switch to OFF, but the monitor display stays brightly lit and show a very small discharge. Bottom line is the monitor never seems to stop monitoring and show the discharge and I've been told by others that thats' due to the Carbon Monoxide monitor. Does this seem right to you. Hi Bill, That is correct that certain things like the carbon monoxide detector will stay on even though you turn on the battery disconnect. The monitor will also stay on as it is connected directly to the battery. The light on mine goes off after a few seconds unless the battery is charging.

      In series it adds the voltage the amp hours stay the same. Parallel keeps the voltage the same and adds the amp hours. i.e. Two 6v batteries of 100 amp hours each wired in series create a 12v bank with 100 amp hours.
