  • Today I am showing you how I made some vintage wooden spool reproductions and how to incorporate them into your decor! They have so many uses the possibilities are endless! I made mine from the left over dowel rod end of an old mop and scrap plywood. I ended up using two different types of wood of various widths for the end pieces of my spools. One in a 1/2 inch width and another in a 1/4 inch width.
    Disclaimer: I am new at using a scroll saw and can't suggest any tips or tricks at this time as I am still learning myself. I recommend that if you take up this hobby as well that you educate yourself on its proper use and use the suggested protective equipment, such as eye wear, in the manual. Alternatives to making the wood pieces needed if you don't have a scroll saw are listed below.

    * Note- you may have to glue some together to get the desired thickness like the ones in the video

    Glad to see a DIY that’s not made from DT stuff.

    These are so versatile! Great DIY! Could see a knitter transferring their ball of yarn onto one of these. Love them as candle sticks and curtain tie backs! Again, thank you for sharing. Love to see any remodeling, crafting, upcycling, organizing projects. Love all your animals and would love to see a day in their life type video. Love all the green around you and any planting, flower gardens, clipping from nature type stuff that gets used in home decor. All the best to you and your family.

    Hi .,.,I’m laid up with a broken foot...so I am catching up on your videos...and love them! I had to laugh when you said you save mop handles from house cleaners.....I do the same thing ( save odd things here and there) and my husband laughs bc I save anything I think might come in handy down the road....bc we too live on a farm I have lots of space to save the stuff and most always find a use for it! Thank you for sharing...spools turned out so cute! 😊k

    What a clever idea. Smart thinking. I would love to do that but I first need to learn to use my brand new Silhouette Cameo that I’ve had for 2 months. I don’t have much knowledge on the computer n u definitely have to to use the Cameo. One of these days I’ll find someone out there who can teach me as I need a 1 on 1 lessons.
    U asked what viewers would like to see as for me all of above in other words everything u mentioned.

    These are really cute! I actually have a large one that I use for a table outside. Living in the country, some companies set them out when they're empty of of industrial wire. You did a great job recreating the spool.

    I am in love with these spools! Do you think you could create a document for your writing and share it with us? That way I would be able to recreate the spools by the graphite method. Anyway Happy New Year!

    • @TheRetroFarmhouse
      @TheRetroFarmhouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Diana McCullough I love that phrase “blessed with.” Its from harbor freight. Central Machinery brand. If you sign up with their coupons you can use them towards a purchase. This one was less that 100$ and had good reviews. Thanks for watching! 😊

    • @TheRetroFarmhouse
      @TheRetroFarmhouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Helen Gibson it’s a silhouette cameo 3. I think I put a link in the description box of the machine. Once you get the machine it has a code to get the software.

    Is that a Harbor Freight scroll saw I just got one for my birthday in October and I found that it jumps alot.let me maybe I'm doing something wrong.

    • @TheRetroFarmhouse
      @TheRetroFarmhouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kathy Ortiz it is. It does vibrate some but they recommend to bolt it to a solid work table. Not sure if you have tried that or not. Also the tension may have something to do with it as well. Sometimes I just trouble shoot things by looking up good videos on TH-cam. There are a lot of great instructional videos on how to address issues. Hope you are able to get it to resolve.

    I like the spools. What material did you use for the stencil?

    • @TheRetroFarmhouse
      @TheRetroFarmhouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lisa Foster I used my silhouette to make a vinyl stencil then just used craft paint to apply paint. I hope that’s what you meant. If you meant font I can look and let you know. Thanks!

    • @lisafoster2138
      @lisafoster2138 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was wondering what type of material /vinyl you used to cut the stencil out of?

    • @TheRetroFarmhouse
      @TheRetroFarmhouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lisa Foster I use the premium vinyl pack from Arteza. But I have also used the oracal brand which is very good also. Thanks! 😊
