- Scott has launched a brand new fly rod, named to Scott Session.
this rod is fenomenal at short to medium range, and has a medium/fast action. This is a real fullblood trout rod, with great potential!
Daniel took it out on the lawn, to test it out! Needless to say, he was very impressed being a previous fan of the Radian series, which is the closest relative to this rod - in our opinion!

I have the 803 and I do like it, but unfortunately they slimmed down the cork on that model and I would rather have thicker diameter cork. Also, I own several of the last Alpha series Scott rods, including the A4, in the 803. The taper design on the 803 is the same as the A4, but the Session is smoother, probably because of the fine wire snake guides (the A4 had heavy snake guides). It’s possible the other Session models are not like this, I have not tried any of the 9-footers to see if they are different. I wanted the Session 803 because I heard it had a stiffer tip and more flex in the butt section, making it really good for transmitting vibration to your hand when playing fish (good fish-fighting feel). And it has that, quite satisfying so far.

How does it cast with the 5wt line? Or do you think it needs the heavier by one weight line that you used on it? A bit of a Scott trait in my experience with the Radian fishing best with a half weight heavy line in New Zealand conditions.
I think the 5 weight line are spot on! But it could easily use a half size heavy line og a 6 weight line, if that is your preference!
