The Lumineers aren't the most popular band in the world, but those that have seen them live know how truly good a group of talent they are...Meanwhile you turn on the grammys and they're handing out awards for women rapping about their WAP...good stuff. I was always broke, lived in crappy apartments, and never had time/money to do much anything other than go to work and school...it was a good life experience and helps me appreciate what I now have, so I'm not cranky either. “Like the salt and the sea” is basically talking about two things that are are inseparable. Think about ocean water. You can’t imagine it not being salty. It’s never going to be fresh unsalted water. The salt and the sea are always together. There’s nothing that will ever separate them ever. It’s not the first song to reference that. But it’s one of the few.
