It's all so low key beautiful. Lead singer underplaying emotion, perfectly phrasing, and interpreting with conserved poignancy of the experience rather than the dramatic and hanging back to allow entire flow of band and their interpretations makes it especially beautiful. His vocals couldn't be better suited and used to fit the song better.
Jeremiah is something else on the keys. Saw them live in Omaha NE (after waiting two years 😭) and it was probably the best show I’ve ever seen. Love the Lumineers, can’t wait to see what’s next 💛

Could it be I was the one that you held so deep in the night On the back staircase you fell to your knees with tears in your eyes All that you suffered, all the disease You couldn't hide it, hide it from me All alone scared in your room, would you swear there's nobody home On the bed laying awake as you prayed he'd leave you alone I'll let the darkness swallow me whole I need to find you, need you to know I'll be your friend in the daylight again There we will be, like an old enemy Like the salt and the sea And they wrote all these prescriptions, they wrote me off Like a heel Yeah, the doctors with their medicine left me To rock in my filth…
Ok, Chris Thile, man do you have it together - musical taste, the talent, I just don't know what to say. Melody, harmony, complex chord changes, nothing like the garbage pop of today. What a breath of fresh air. Keep it up!!!!!!
i was so sad that you didn‘t play that song on tour since it‘s my absolute favourite from the new album!!! this is sooo good, goosebumps all over my body...
The Lumineers aren't the most popular band in the world, but those that have seen them live know how truly good a group of talent they are...Meanwhile you turn on the grammys and they're handing out awards for women rapping about their WAP...good stuff. I know the Grammys are all about what's popular, but man it gets worse every year...guess I'm just getting old.
@@delshoemaker7616 I'm not bothered by getting older at all...being young pretty much sucked! I was always broke, lived in crappy apartments, and never had time/money to do much anything other than go to work and school...it was a good life experience and helps me appreciate what I now have, so I'm not cranky either. I just think what's considered popular music now is shiite! lol
To give an intoxicant a persona is quite interesting. If I was alcohol I wouldn't like to just be demonized. I 'd have both good and bad affects on people. I would want to be loved, but would also understand those that grow to hate me. I would understand. No matter how much I try to be a friend.
“Like the salt and the sea” is basically talking about two things that are are inseparable. Think about ocean water. You can’t imagine it not being salty. It’s never going to be fresh unsalted water. The salt and the sea are always together. There’s nothing that will ever separate them ever. It’s not the first song to reference that. But it’s one of the few.
Can't find the post but his guitar is not out of tune...thats just how them chords sound. Exacty what makes the sound on that particular guitar.. obviously u don't play an instrument.
The piano, THE PIANO!!
I know ... I would love a extended version song of like just the piano
Yes, Yes! had to come home and find this to hear it again!
April
isabelle morris yes, indeed!
Yess.. love it
This song is absolutely haunting. Turning into my favorite tune of the year.
It’s real talent when you sound the same live as you do on the record
My current song crush got infinitely better when I heard it Live from Here.

I´m 63 and marked by the music of "my time". But this is of outstanding class... love it!
This needs a million more likes. Well done.
Best episode of Live From Here, IMO. This song really turned me from a casual listener of the Lumineers into a fan.
What a song, what a voice ,the piano, yes the damn PIANO.
There are no words...
Proud to say that musicians this talented came from NJ . Brilliant.
I got the pleasure of hearing this live and that piano is so beautiful that all at once 18 thousand people were standing silently listening to it
Young the Giant and Lumineers are the Best! They both sound even better live

Also the out of tune guitar is another perfectly considered piece of making this hauntingly beautiful.
Couldn't have been explained any better. Well put, well put.
@birdyluisa it's in tune, it's just not in standard tuning
A song that is so hauntingly beautiful and inspiring at the same time. Love this song.
Wow my heart. Best song on the album by far.❤️so proud of where they are now, forever Lumineers.
Cried to this song all night long on Saturday. Thanks Lumineers x
mood lol, when im sad i listen to their songs and it makes me cry even more hahaha
One word: CINEMATIC.
One of the best bands out there. This song is so regal and one of the best of the 21st Century.
I'm no spring chicken but the nostalgia has me reliving my life. 🦋🦋🌈🌈✝️✝️🇺🇸🇺🇸❤❤🙏🙏
This number is so plaintive and beautiful, it should be on top 100 list.
I listen to this song too often❤️
Pretty heavy lyrics right there. Made me think of my sister who's fighting pancreatic cancer.
I hope she is doing ok!
God bless her and your family. She is with you always.

I Absolutely Love This Song!!!
Captivating! I cannot stop listening to this song ♥️
Could it be I was the one that you held so deep in the night

All that you suffered, all the disease
You couldn't hide it, hide it from me
All alone scared in your room, would you swear there's nobody home
On the bed laying awake as you prayed he'd leave you alone
I'll let the darkness swallow me whole
I need to find you, need you to know
I'll be your friend in the daylight again
There we will be, like an old enemy
Like the salt and the sea
And they wrote all these prescriptions, they wrote me off
Like a heel
Yeah, the doctors with their medicine left me
To rock in my filth…
From the destruction out of the flames, you need a villain give me a name...
@@audiodropouts I’ll be your friend, in the daylight again...
There we will be
Like an old enemy
I'll be your friend in the daylight again,
There we will be like an old enemy,
Like the salt and the sea
Like the salt and the sea
Love it. Y'all are awesome.

Sucks to become old and cranky! Grin! It's a fact of life! You'll be alright!

Metallica and the Lumineers!
So is the title a Gregory Alan Isakov tribute or...
That was Chris Thile? I didn't recognize him?... So much more attractive with a Mandolin? But still so talented. :)
They wrote this for Split and M Night decided to use something else. Stupid decision, the song fits the film perfectly
That guild guitar is pretty

Reminds me of James Bond
this song is so SAD :'((((
Joe hennig and woody harrelson still going strong
Kevin loves you
absolutely beautiful song, the only thing that could make it better is if they were all chewing Copenhagen.
Wts the meaning of “like a salt and the sea” ?
