    Is right, great videos and great to see another good car back on the road and back to it's best, the amount of time's cars end up scrapped because of some work needed to remedy a couple of issues, is heartbreaking to me.
    Then again they're not normally from the VAG line are they!?? Personally I love VAG cars and Vans, they're just very well made, mainly, and will look after us if maintained and cared for, so again, great video, really pleasing to see a well used faithful car back to it's best and keeping on. 👌

    I’ve just bought a 2006 2.5tdi Touareg, I absolutely love it and for the small amount I paid for it I genuinely can’t complain, however there are a few gremlins about it. I’m about to call you guys to hopefully get it booked in

    Wrong oil gets put in the R5 2.5. Pre 2007 requires a 0W30 A5/B5 (VW506.01)Most people just chuck in a 5W30 C3 (504/507)which has less extreme pressure additives due to the nature of being a low saps product. This in turn causes extreme wear on the cam lobes. Just my 5pence worth

      We've done a bit on them. Had a transporter in a earlier this year with the same issue that we did a video on and have a full playlist on our recovery truck with a built 2.5 in it

    My 2.5 Touareg is close to 300.000km (around 190.000 Miles). I think the Engine (besides having a bit of a lack of power) is quite a longrunner.
    Just change the oil after 15.000km, use fully synthetic 0w-30 and delete the EGR.
    Just drove about 1.500km this Weekend and managed to get around 8l/100km 💪🏻

      Regarding to my 2007 VW T5 2.5 TDI BPC 174HP DPF spec I’d say only 5W-30 VW 504 00, VW 507 00 C3 from Motul, never thinner like 0W-30 cause even recommended Castrol 5W-30 is such a low viscosity .I have central EU on my mind according to temperatures. 15.000km - it’s right . Shins on EGR cooler necessarily. EGR can stay and be fully open or just removed. Coding is not needed if removed. PD injectors bridge is good thing too to make injectors seats lasts longer and for stiffness. Those are work horses which lasts if maintained on time. Mine 400.000km and only 1 camshaft been broken and cylinder head seal replaced once to Reinz. The rest is fine.

    6:36 - "Like a dream" lol, as a petrol engines owner I would think the engine is about to die and has all the bearings destroyed by the knocking, it really sounds like it has spun all the crank/rod bearings. But that's probably a normal TDI sound, I admire people who can stand it.
    I already had diesels, but they were all 6-cylinders and they were quiet.

    I'd love to see how You manage Volvo D4/D5 (don't remember which ones were bad) from XC90. They were supposed to have like 170/180hp, but due to valves those can do like 130hp. And You can hear how compression goes back to intake

    Awesome 👌 video mate. You've just jacked the price up on them by %30. There built proof and cheap. Easy to work on. How do we get a little more power out of them with simple bolt ons . Ie intercooler manifolds and cartridges

      We've got a fair few parts on our website, from intercoolers and manifolds to turbo kits and injectors all for the 2.5's. Our recovery truck had a fully built 2.5, got a full spec list here - www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/transporter-t5-recovery-truck-2-5-tdi-bnz/

    I almost bought one of these a few weeks ago, was on the hunt for a bigger, taller car and the garage I went to had a 2.5 toureg and a 3.0L X3. I got the X3 in the end....it's now in bits on my driveway! Lol

    Lack of lubricant and long oil change intervals. Ivé had several PD´s with well over 300kkm on the same cam. They suffer the same with bad oil

  • @GERntleMAN
    @GERntleMAN 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Admittedly, that's a sign of poor material quality. But it also looks like not enough oil changes and especially the wrong oil/cheap oil

    😮😮 i always thought the 5 cylinder engines only came in the really old audis and transporters i always though the 2.5s in the touregs were the 2.5 v6s that used to be in the a6s and passats. Well you learn something new everyday 😂

    Been thinking about getting one of these for a while especially the 2.5 5pot, I believe they don’t run on a timing belt or chain… gear driven which appeals to me what causes the cam issue just poor oil and interval? Thanks

      ive had head issues regarding the sealing of the pump injectors

    • @DarksideDevelopments
      @DarksideDevelopments  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes mainly oil and intervals. VW change the oil on the 2.5's to 0W-30 but many still put 5W-30 which can wear the cams

    • @DarksideDevelopments

    Im seriously looking at buying a cheap 2.5tdi touareg as alternative to a disco for greenlaning and camping but was reading that the 2.5 was a nightmare to work on and that you cant do the cam with the engine in place.. clearly the forums i was reading were wrong! 😂

    • @DarksideDevelopments
      @DarksideDevelopments  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You definitely can, a few trims to take off at the rear of the engine then its free to work on. Once the issues are fixed it's a super reliable engine

    • @DarksideDevelopments

      Majority of the time it passes through the oil and into the bottom of the sump. Caught early enough it should be fine but left for too long and it can be damaging
