His artistry just never fails to amaze me. The way none of his songs sound the same, and they're not overly experimental, they always have catchy tunes and poetic lyrics. Lyrics aren't even the most important thing for me but you can't help but be in awe of his songwriting.
Fun fact : sihwang (one of producers who worked on cosmos) wrote the inst 10 yrs ago and gave the title 'universe' however when he sent the demo to hanbin, he just typed 'afgkllwr' sth like this (keyboard smash) and next day hanbin returned with full lyrics and named it 'cosmos' so it was a surprise for both of them since they both named it universe. Cosmos was fastest song he made in the album. Btw the letter he was writing was 'To my cosmos, 그렇게 여전히 눈부셔줘' im sorry his handwriting still sucks 🥲 .................................... And im glad my interpretation on cosmos is similar with PD. It's all abt fantasy but what makes it diff is that he is fully aware of it and the scene of him letting go the balloon happily at the end is like he's aware he will hv to let go at one point no matter how much he loves them .
I think what separates KIM HANBIN from other artists is his ability to make his listeners live his world. He paints a picture so well through his poetic lyrics. His abstract descriptions and use of metaphors are second to none. However, his talent does not even end there. His use of different instruments and fluid musical transitions further clarifies the vagueness of his words. I've never followed such talent of this magnitude. Every release, I just know that it's going to be something good. If there's anything Hanbin can't do, it is to make a bad track. He has such a golden reportoire.
visually stunning and sonically pleasing. all the sound effects gives that "spacey," other worldly feel. and yes, you can sense the love angst and sadness, despite the peace he finds in the end.

Hanbin is great at communicating this feelings through music and songwriting. He's been talking lately about hanging out with friends after school, getting a crush and general wistfulness towards the freedoms of teenage-hood. To me, cosmos is a love song that says 'I'm nostalgic for memories I couldn't afford to make. Though what I'm yearning for could just be in my fantasies, it's beautiful all the same.' And hearing someone who doesn't follow his interviews or non music content closely talk bout this song as a fantasy/far away/self-aware daydreaming kinda love makes me really proud of his ability to pour his feelings into art.
I'm sure in your review you'll get to that realisation too, but the mv is f gorgeous! Some of the scenes are so stunning, makes me wanna take screenshots every two seconds and put them as background everywhere!

It's very touching in an unexplainable kinda way. You also made a good point about the sad undertone. Idk why but many people can't feel it in this mv, it's mostly happy vibes for them. I feel like it's almost impossible for Hanbin's music to not have at least a tinge of sadness in it, it's like his signature haha. The lyrics for this song has to be one of my favorites & I agreed with basically everything you said 😅😭 but one thing you didn't touch on that I personally loved is the line "don't fall, my flower petal". It made me very curious...Normally, people would say I, you, or our love is like a flower or blossoming of a flower, etc. But to focus on a flower petal was so interesting to me & I think it fits so well to the entire concept of her being out of reach & the song title cosmos (like the cosmos flower). Also, in general the metaphor of her being the flower petal just seemed very personal when I first read it lol I watched a interview of his & he mentioned how this line is one of his favorites because of a reason that he only knows LOL so I was right & pleasantly surprised 😂😂

Also I feel like this could relate to how fans view artists and musicians specifically kpop and idol culture. B.I could be relating everything hes gone through as an idol and artist and metaphorically expressing it in the most positive way possible. Like how we hold idols to such god tier levels. We should be keeping them afar in our minds and fantasies and not in reality. Thinking that idols are perfection and what we should expect in our every day lives is not realistic. Its more and should be more enjoyable to admire them and support them all from afar. Lately the kpop idol culture has become so toxic for both fans and the idols and it needs to get better. Maybe Im reading too much into it and am completely wrong haha. But both scenarios feel relateable. He is genius and brilliant.

The way you explained it just hit me so hard.
The way B.I writes is so beautiful, profound, and intelligent. Also I feel like this could relate to how fans view artists and musicians specifically kpop and idol culture. B.I could be relating everything hes gone through as an idol and artist and metaphorically expressing it in the most positive way possible. Like how we hold idols to such god tier levels. We should be keeping them afar in our minds and fantasies and not in reality. Thinking that idols are perfection and what we should expect in our every day lives is not realistic. Its more and should be more enjoyable to admire them and support them all from afar. Lately the kpop idol culture has become so toxic for both fans and the idols and it needs to get better. Maybe Im reading too much into it and am completely wrong haha.
But both scenarios feel relateable. He is genius and brilliant.
