I chose the HKS drop-in filter - the stock airbox is pretty efficient!
Excellent it all worked out, I am one of those who mentioned about two versions of the mst kit, I also ran into trouble with the first version of it. The k&n is a solid choice and sounds just as good!

Another video from a tuner did a dyno run with this K&N induction kit, it added horse power up higher, didn’t heat soak as its a sealed box using the hood or bonnet from where I come from, as a sealed lid, the air to fuel mix was spot on without a tune, the only worry for me is the oil gumming up the MAF sensor, but I would use a much lighter coating of oil on the gauze cone filter if I fitted one, great video dude 👍🏻

I love my K&N air filter on my FA5 Civic. It may not be the best performing one but it will drive no problem with stock tune and will still have gains when tuned.

You have a GR86/BRZ with over 115k on the odo now? What's it like? I'm 20k mi in and I'm just curious how it's treating you at high mileage. You posted this comment almost a year ago so I'm sure it has even more on the odo now. Let me know, I'm super interested.
@@IAmTheHomeDepot I had a 2016 Scion FRS…. I put about 130,000 miles on it… starter finally started having issues. Oil seeping not from the front timing cover but at a junction of multiple engine parts where they RTV it together practically so that couldn’t be fixed without dissembling. Had replaced the rear axles due to the annoying click that was happening. But honestly loved the car and miss it. I went and test drove this Porsche cayman 718 and fell in love with having actual power compared to the FRS. But hands down the FRS was the better handling car(had coilovers and 17x9 RPF1s with 245s all around).
@@IAmTheHomeDepot also, no engine probs whatsoever but then again I changed the oil every 3k miles. I drove on I-45 and beltway 8 like a race car and the car held fine even after all the mileage and years of fun(acquired car Nov 15, 2015).

Hey Cam, just a heads up, enjoy what you have now, cherish each moment, im 40 and had kids early, met my wife and she had 2 kids already, had 3 more kids with her, now they are all grown up, 21, 20, 18, 17 and 12, Im also a grandfather. honestly, time went by so quick. A word of advise for both of you, take pictures, videos when they are young, one day you can look back at it all and say, you were just babies yesterday. take care Viv and Cam and baby Elli. keep doing what you are doing. she is so cute. have fun being parents.

Hey cameron! i just did this install on my GR86 2022 because of your video. I do wanna point out that the bolts that came with the kit actually do thread on, it just took two 10mm socket wrenches, one to hold a side, and the other to screw it in. Not sure if you tried that but it did work for me and I didn’t have to run to the store haha

Just installed mine using this as a guide! I love how you lost focus and step by step as the baby came out, lol. True dad there.
1. Because KN punches holes in the heat shielding I laid them vertically.
2. If you leave bolts loose-ish you can adjust the fitment.
3. Everyone, not a single phone will pick up the noise this thing makes in real life. I was cackling laughing doing pulls around my neighborhood. It’s that good.

Hey Cameron, does this cut down on the hood flutter when you get up to about 80mph.
Car sounds good Cam! Love the family cantent. Also, how has the sleeping at night time? Does she sleep through the night? I know we got lucky and our daughter sleep through the night with no problems.

She's just perfect man congrats again! That's great that she's so vocal already, seems like she'll hit her developmental milestones quickly. She does also seem very content and I like how she see smiles so much. You both should take credit though for clearly providing her a happy home and environment. the way you put the rubber around the circular bit makes me wonder if that was something I was supposed to do back when I had a K&N for my 2.0T Accord. I returned it because there was a section of the intake that didn't seal around a pipe in the engine and that is probably why. I don't remember seeing that in the instructions though.
The baby clips were adorable, made me a little emotional. And I usually don’t care much for babies tbh.

I definitely really want the HKS cold air intake, however, it is illegal in california and i don’t want any issues with the law here since they can pull you over for the smallest thing and check the car for everything. As much as i want it I have to go for a state legal intake. Unfortunately. I hate how strict the laws for modifications are in california.
California sucks in that respect. If we keep our Florida address, I'll be able to register all my cars here in Florida once we move back to CA

I ended up getting rid of mine because, for me, the normal seeky-idle became more dramatic. Instead of the ~100rpm stumble, it was like 2-250rpm - AC off. With the AC on it swung like 500.
Sounded amazing otherwise. No CEL. Butt dyno said there was something different going on.
Wondering if you're experiencing the same behavior post install.
Oh really? Damn. I’ll pay attention to that. Do you think its because of all the oil on the filter? I mean, I have to give K&N the benefit of the doubt that they know what they’re doing… but… that was a LOT of damn oil
@@Camhill182 I don't thing it was the oil. I swapped out the k&n for a AEM filter and cleaned the MAF for science.
I'm pretty sure it has to do with how the air is moving through the tube. The MAF seems really sensitive. I accidentally ran with a misaligned airbox for a few minutes and it threw a CEL (for the same reason the MST throws one untuned.)
The air seems like it's sorta bouncing around in the intake tube, passing back and forth past the MAF, and causes those stumbles. This is all a big SWAG, though. I haven't tried any post MAF tube/resonator deletes to test my theory, though.
Trying to get my hands on another factory intake box just to give it a whirl.

Did you atleast soak up the extra oil on the air filter? That’s way too much oil for your maf , throttle body , etc
It’s just a light coat of oil for these and most wet air filters

I just wanted to give you an update on my cousin who was arrested and charged for simply driving his s2000 without a cat and 25mph over the speed limit in his YT vid.. He is taking a plea deal.. 1 year suspension on license, $10,000 fine. Gotta love Southern California!

@Camhill182 yeah lol.. they had like 7 other emissions related charges against him so rather than risk far worse he took a plea on 2 charges. Reckless endangerment and 2 counts on emissions violations for not having a cat on his s2k and fk8. They used his YT channel against him sadly.
@Camhill182 Also if u want a brief glimpse into how far they are willing to go on this car stuff out there, they walked around the entire neighborhood he lives at to get neighbors to rat on him for speeding, noise violations, etc. They had like 4 witnesses that were gonna testify against him 😆.. And no, he was never overly reckless in residential areas. His video he was doing pulls in was on a non-resident industrial road at 1am.

I've heard that oil on those K&N filters is bad for your maf sensor. That's why I only buy the dry filters only.

All that oil on the intake can mess with the maf sensor just want to let you know. K&n put way to much oil

I wouldn't do anything right now unless it becomes a problem if it does just rinse the oil out and respray the intake lightly

Any component specially in Subaru engines needs a tune you will need a tune cause of the air will flow higher and the factory tube will not like that you will encounter problems with your engine bro.
You will need a pro tune or a access port regular tune
For the love of god, before you do any other mod, do something about the Toyota badge on the front bumper lol.

Sell the brz, consolidate all your money into one car. Put yourself into a position where instead of having many cars that you don't do anything with because you've spent all the money on the mods, have one car that you do more with. Quality over quantity.

The gr86 with a few but expensive mods will still get you reliable Porsche speed and at a 3rd of the cost.

I'm not sure. it has some heat shielding on the box, and also it pulls in air from the front bumper, not the engine bay
