I have wanted to read Black Quantum Furitism for years now! I need to go get a copy and read it next year. It's been on my list for too long. (When you held it up I actually yelped lol 😆)
I just read The Gilda Stories by Jewelle Gomez, which follows our main character who is a black lesbian vampire and it was AMAZING! The book is speculative fiction and has aspects of afrofuturism and I highly recommend it!
thank you for the recommendations, i have a lot of reading to do now! i think i especially will try to get a hold of queer times, black futures soon! im currently reading black utopias: speculative life and the music of other worlds by jayna brown and it uses the concept of utopia as a 'way of exploring alternative states of being, doing, and imagining in black culture'! a lot of it is about music and mysticism, but it also discusses the work of octavia e butler and samuel r delaney! i am really enjoying it! 📚 (also, i LOVE your glasses!)
You're welcome! Please let me know if your club picks any of these up, ok? The Black Imagination is also one that I have. I'll need to do another one of these videos soon, there's so much more to talk about!
I appreciate the suggestions. I'd heard of Afrofuturism, but I didn't understand its potential value for me. I'm just now recognizing that representation has been a void for me
Your glasses are always so cute- and these in particular ☺️
