- Large rat infestation and they're attacking the chickens. Pulling out their feathers and killing the young ones.
I'll be shooting rats in these chicken coops tonight.
Running my FX Impact M3 600mm barrel air rifle in 22cal with 15.89gr Hades pellets turned down to 650fps to mitigate any damage to the infrastructure.
My thermal scope is a Pulsar Thermion2 Pro XP50 LRF and I'm shooting off a Bexin ST424C tripod with Sirui K30x ball head to area swiss rail.
Quite a challenging task especially at very close ranges.
Squeezing pellets through small gaps in the wire mesh to making an ethical kill shot on the rats. All whilst avoiding the chickens.
Approximately 80 rats were culled over a period of 3 hours, hopefully sorting out the the issues they were having. Definitely a few carcasses for the property owner to collect in the morning.

Property owner is lucky to have you available or it would be game over for the poor chickens. Rat populations never go down on their own unless rampant disease takes over and then you have an even worse problem. Nice work, that air rifle is incredible.

I love how you do not go cheap on the ammo and double tap them when unsure of their death. Mercy kills are the right thing to do. These little bastards are such a pain, but they're smart.
Correct on all accounts mate. I don't care for rats but I wouldn't let any animal unnecessarily suffer.

I like watching your shooting because it is about as ethical as it is possible to be. I used to keep rats as pets. Individually they are surprisingly vulnerable and prone to all sorts of illnesses but their collective resilience is amazing. It is partly because they learn so fast, but mainly because they can breed so prolifically so young. If someone could develop a poison that stopped their reproduction capacity but didn’t make them feel sick they might not learn from it. Some chickens will kill and eat rats. It depends on the chook and its circumstances.

I wish I had this gear and skills.
I bought my house 20 months ago and the rundown place next door had the squatters (referred to as the devils rejects, facial tatts & all) kicked out 4 months later.
Then the rats came, dogs have no chance (Australian and french bulldogs) cause you cant vatch a ninja with a tank.
Took up residence in my floors ceiling & classic 1986 Rx7 Turbo, trashed the interior, built a nest behind the drivers taillight.
Interior was up for a refresh now it's up for a full rebuild.
That's bloody terrible mate.

Great job, seems difficult to aim between the wires of the mesh. I would be afraid, that a pellet might be deflected by the mesh and cause undesired havoc
Definitely challenging, the right shot angle and an accurate air rifle is a must

Brilliant shooting mate. I do like the thermal scope, simply because of splatter rat effect, and seeing the pellet strike mark as the rat falls. Cheers from Texas.
The ol splatter shows just how effective these little pellets are even when they're travelling so slow.

Brilliant, non-poisonous active solution and you know how many you get. Also it has an instant effect, your not waiting to see if the numbers drop over a period of time, you can count the number taken out of the zone as you remove the bodies the next morning.

Great shooting as always. I noticed that there were some pens to the left that seemed to be lined with 1cm snake mesh. Does that stop the rats or do they just get in anywhere?
There were actually several mice in those ones. Maybe they were safe from the rats in there. 🤷♂️

Where I’m at, we have Norwegian rats (also called brown or sewer rats) and roof rats, I’m just curious what rats you have in Australia.

If it is just for close distance rat shooting, you should be able to pick up a thermal scope for under 3k

What is the doink noise that I am hearing on each shot. Sounds like it's hitting a thick glass bottle? I have a Gamo .177 single cock 1250FPS pellet rifle with a Bushnell Trophy 4-12x 40mm that works great on squirrels. Don't have that many rats to get rid of!!

Poison won't work on rats if there is alternative food around for them; I guess they were happy with chicken food, or what they can find in the surrounds.

Hi mate Paddy in Scotland here great shooting. I've watched a lot and I mean a fuck load of vids. What I would love to see is the actual slugs in your hand that you use for each animal. Most of us don't know. I had a .22 osprey air rifle in my 20s but your gear is outstanding mate. I'd love to try something like it probably too fckn shakey at 64 now but yeah nah as you people say keep up the GOOD work.
You should give it a crack Paddy. The gear available now is so good. I'm shakey as shit but a decent tripod keeps me rock steady. 👊
