Lilias is right up there with Holiday. Norm Lewis is a pretty incredible Curtis too. But I don’t think the others rank up there with the original cast. There were people who did the original touring productions who were far better in the roles.

Lilias did a lot of shows in LA when Holiday was regularly missing performances. Lilias went on to do it in San Francisco, Chicago, Paris, and then the first part of the Broadway return in 1987.
She deserved a break after performing in The Lion King and Aida for eight shows a week for a couple of years each. Her solo music never required big vocals, but she does have a few songs that showcase her range.
1:05:19 gave me chills omg lorelle was really good! but its sad that no one actually cared about her she should have been given the song 'Listen' instead of Deena since lorelle was always background and had never been in the spotlight
First time hearing someone sang I am telling you... & not not think of Jennifer Holiday. Lelias White made it her own & sang that song. Her tones had me yelling yes momma.
It sucks Billy was hoarse from rehearsals cause he sings the shit out of this role! I love Audra’s voice for Deena, didn’t think I would be it just flows. She does no wrong. I was surprised by the Michelle casting when the ensemble alone had some SANGING gurls. Tunie wasn’t even a name they could have gotten better.
This performance was very poorly put together at the end they're reading their lines off paper and if you watched the original you'd realize they missed a couple lines
Its a concert! They're required to hold the script for a majority of the time and since its not a full production they arent required to be completely off book
This is concert. Alot times when they do these actors fund concerts they actually HAVE to go on with the script bc of copyright issues. And then they find creative ways of getting rid of them

Andrew Shearin She previously lost her voice and was building up to her notes to make sure it wouldn’t come out as screaming. But what she lacked in the long high notes she definitely made up for in her riffs and freestyles
