    You got unlucky with that auto zero issue. On a ride last year I, on the other hand got lucky, with a wheel based speed sensor. I averaged over 100 km/h on a ride, with top speeds over 130 km/h. Finally a piece of kit that revealed how fast I really am. :D

    Hello Shane,
    Waiting for my right XCadey Shimano crankarm based power meter. I know this is not a best option, but I have direct drive break located under the BB, so no option to have left-sided only PM without changing the break.
    I got it for 180 USD so I believe it is some kind of bargain here for the new unit.
    I also believe in scaling for the data output, so firstly will test it with my CycleOps H2 and may be later borrow friend's Vectors.
    In my plans is to get it accurate as possible, since right crank 8000 will be a challenge.
    Was a little bit suspicious for scaling but after your video I have much more confidence in my choice.
    Will wait the parcel and see if it cost its price.
    Thx and be safe.

    Great review Shane! Really helped me out making a choice. I have a Raceface Next-SL crankset on my Canyon Lux and only 3 power meters options to go with:
    1. Cinch power meter crank - 600$ single sided - meh
    2. Power2Max - 590$ spider based - nice
    3. Xcadey - 290$ spider based - what ??
    Almost pulled the trigger on the Power2Max, specs are good, seems a robust build and good reviews. Still there's that scratch... eventually I was turned off by the battery cover on the spider that most likely will fly off during my battle with the elements exposing the battery, losing the battery, get filled with muck. I do not like to worry about gear on a mountain bike, this no small issue would have had me pulled out from the free flow riding nirvana into the abyss of the anxious and the distressed. So no..
    Xcadey is half the price and it seems it got OK reviews so far.
    Push to shove, got a Xcadey package the other day. Installation was a breeze and all is working in order. The hardware build is sturdy, installation tolerances spot on. Good job on the CNC :-) iPhone paired, firmware updated, zero calibrated, Garmin paired all in a breeze. As simple as any other bike electronic gizmo I have on my bike, as soon as I've installed it I forgot it's there till it blinks red for more juice.
    Still need to cross-calibrate with my Kickr, yet numbers look OK comparing with my other bikes. Happy so far.

    @archerydog 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I find the products of the company XCadey interesting from the Price point. However, with my last purchase I had to learn that if you have a problem with them, you should not expect a solution. For Europe there is currently no proper help from the manufacturer.
    Main problem is, as always, the quality assurance ex works. One can be lucky and everything fits or not. When I bought it, the electronics on the power meter were defective at the factory first. It was exchanged after months but against another series. There the charging cable plug had been produced wrong. So after 6 month no solution. But I would be happy if other customers would feel better.

      I'm just about to order same set up. In fact have ordered XCadey already. How did you get on? Do you happen to know if the Rotor aerocrown fits over the Xcadey ok?

    • @davidngqkalone88
      @davidngqkalone88 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisshaw2361 tested it on several occasions agst the direto. It was reading low but when I scaled it up to 110% it finally read ok.
      I have a quarq riken on my TT bike that tracks nicely agst the direto, so the direto should be accurate. My sentiments echo gplamas- if you have no ability to test this against a known good powermeter then its sorta pointless. Something is really not right with their factory calibration as I've seen people reporting values from 6-17%.
      No experience with the aerocrown, but looking at it I dont think it would fit aesthetically. Its worth a shot though.

    • @chrisshaw2361
      @chrisshaw2361 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidngqkalone88 Cheers for that. I'm kind of in 2 camps on the accuracy. If it was someone's only power meter it wouldn't really matter, so long as it was repeatedly reporting the same discrepancy in a linear fashion. And in my case I have a Drivo and Garmin vector 2 pedals that line up nicely so the facility to scale up or down would hopefully allow me to ride any bike in or out and be working pretty close to same power readings. Just trying to get a clean aero look on the TT bike, and the other option might be to use one of the old QRings to avoid the gap. Would mean having OCP adjust on both the spider mount and the rings but could fix 1 in mid position. So many options but 1 way or another should get a decent fit and look. Thanks for swift response. (Presume once you scaled up they tracked the Direto well throughout the range?)

    • @davidngqkalone88
      @davidngqkalone88 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisshaw2361 disagree about that. If its inaccurate it means you cant do virtual elevation aero testing, and if you ever switch to a new PM your data will be useless. If you dont care about that then you might as well stick with power estimators like strava that get you close enough.
      I mean, would you accept a weighing scale that gives you 'close enough' accuracy?

    • @chrisshaw2361
      @chrisshaw2361 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidngqkalone88 Partly agree, things like Bestbikesplit will be a little out of whack although still useful to an extent. Strava estimator is no use really if you're trying to pace a 25 mile TT or a long course tri bike leg. My point is aimed more at when you want to pace out your effort as a % of ftp it doesn't matter if your watts are reading different to someone else's, only matters that you get the same watts every time. I'm only really interested in my data now - my ftp will change over years, and during a year, then if you get another meter, so long as you can scale at least one of them to match you're still good to go. But I do agree, if you want nailed on accuracy for very precise and accurate virtual aero testing it would be less useful if you didn't have an accurate meter to scale it against. I still think you could use it for Chung testing - if you're comparing helmet A to helmet B it doesn't really matter if the CdA is 100% accurate, it only matters that 1 tests consistently better than the other.

    Just a few thoughts from weights and measures technician depending on what country a strain gauge is calibrated in, the difference in the gravity constant around the world will effect any certified mass used to calibrate the unit and in turn result in a slightly low or high reading when in a different country. Not sure I would expect that much difference but could easy be down to cheaper strain gauges. Most strain gauge bassed mechanisms should have a gravity constant multiple in software to account for this when calibration can not be done in a new country.

    Hello, update on my unit. It Broke... one morning it just would not work as it got stuck on the blue light. Would not connect, would not show any signal on bluetooth or ant+. I charged it, discharged it and it would not work. When it finally returned to give signal (After fully discharching and charging the unit for the third time) the numbers were completely off... 40 watts on a climb that i usually ride at 230 (Even after several calibration attemps) ... Luckily my unit was bought from a local distibutor who has accepted to replace my unit because of waranty.

    • @jono968
      @jono968 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a very similar problem after about 5 months, ANT+ and BLTE both became intermittently unresponsive (couldn't connect with my phone or GPS bike computer). Sometimes the blue light was jammed on, other times it wouldn't come on at all. I also had wild power numbers towards the end, fluctuating from 30W to 900W on a steady state ride. The Good News is that I received a replacement unit directly from Xcadey within 3 weeks of emailing them. I originally bought the unit from Aliexpress. I contacted Xcadey to describe the problem and they came right back and said it was a hardware failure and offered to replace it no questions asked - no serial number, no questions about usage, didn't ask for the old one back - just sent me the new one. All up it was under three weeks from emailing them to getting the replacement unit including two weeks shipping from China to NZ. EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!
      I will also say that the power readings seem very accurate, I have mine adjusted to 106% and it reads slightly higher than a Tacx Neo 2 I used when I did a FTP test, which makes sense given the difference between measuring at the crank and measuring at the wheel.

  • @yoda112358

    I wonder how much power is getting lost in the transfer from the pedal to the crank through that whole kinetic chain. Like we know that you'd see some power losses comparing a pedal to a rear hub, but that wouldn't mean that either PM was "wrong", just that they weren't measuring the same thing.

    Are you scaling on power or scaling on torque. It looks like the cadence isn't as clean but averages out pretty well so if that's true then they have the same net effect, but you can't reliably assume that first. A wide cadence range for testing can uncover if the problem is a zero offset or a calibration slope. Spiders have one mechanical weakness that is normally meaningless in a good design or weird in a bad design. They can have a sinusoidal response depending on the orientation and misalignment of shear gages (a quarq design). Normally on a 4+ instrumented arm (inside) it's hard to make this worse than 1 - 2%. One a 2 arm (P2MAX) it's easier. Then they need to do multiple orientation calibrations and average them out. On average it's still generally low. But Zero offset error and calibration error can look the same on inspection. If scaling torque fixes it then it's calibration "slope" and if adding torque offset then it's zero offset problem.

    • @gplama
      @gplama  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure how they’re scaling. I suspect it’d be pretty basic. There’s no raw torque from these units to review in real-time that I’m aware.

    I have been renting a Wattbike pro for lockdown and it must have 2 power meters because it shows a figure of 8 inside a digital quadrant analysing my pedalthrough stroke. For left and right foot. So going forward, when I goto buy something,does any other system offer this technology.. for me specifically for indoor smart trainer . Wahoo kicker bike? No one else seems to advertise this as a power meter advantage, showing left and right in an analytical quadrant,but it seems to me quite important? Or is it not?

      Pedal stroke analysis on the Wattbike may be more accurate if they have crank position sensors with just the one power metering 'source'. L/R balance/spilt is somewhat interesting. The peanut.... kind of interesting. Useful..... maybe.

    Great video, just received my unit for a sram 3-bolt crank but with a 104bcd for my MTB. Did your unit also come with a countersunk screw interface instead of the flat head as the sram cranks use?
    In my case, the screws use to fix it to the 3-bolt interface on the crank are surrounded by the powermeter material for about 60% of their diameter, but the rest does not touch the bottom of the crank interface, which causes a bending load on the bolts... Although there should hardly be a considerable cyclic load on the bolts, as the teething should take most of it, it still bothers me to possible break off the spider... Bet it's gonna happen in a race ;/

    Hi Shane.
    Could you make a video on how someoone can easily get the data from 2 powermeter sources, i.e i have a direto and if i got a powermeter and recorded a ride on zwift what would i need to do? I think , from watching you all your videos/analysis /lama lab tests i would need to do the following.
    Connect direto to zwift as normal, do a 20km ride with my 2nd powermeter attached to my wahoo in passive mode and just record the ride. Then input both files to dc rainmaker analysis tool and then I could in theory compare the percentage of deviation between both power meters. (seeing this video an xcadey spider seems good if we can verify if we all would need to do a scaling offset). as always thanks for your videos as they are the highlight of my youtube viewing experience and the FITFILE podcast is also my go to. :)
