  • In a small family run "officina" workshop on the east side of Rome, magic happens. Magic that brings a wide eyed smile to true petrolheads. We talk with Mittiga Tuning about their passion for tuning Italian engines the old fashioned way. Using decades of experience and traditional, mechanical engineering skills that are slowly disappearing in the modern automotive world, this father and son team are building some incredible engines, including a Fiat 128 race engine. Watch our film to see their creations come to life!

    Cheers from Argentina guys! Here we have a ton of categories homologated for Fiat 128 and 147 (it´s the restyling of the 127, in south america we didn´t had the 127 per sé). Usually a Fiat 128 1.4 8v N/A has around 160HP when the regulations of that category allows it (using a Weber IDF 40/40) and around 140HP with less work in the heads and a Solex TEIE 34/34

    Beautiful!
    I was at your home page and wondered what tunes and cost can be done to an engine for road use? Key would be itb and at least 100-130 hp.
    But I couldn't find any info. I would to know an estimate.
    Btw we love to see a clip of a car in action with your engine mods.
    Cheers!

    does anyone by chance know if this shop or other in Italy make a 16v cylinder head for the sohc fiat block?Customising a head of a 1.6 16v bravo or even a custom made one from the ground up.

  • @gabrielemoro1
    @gabrielemoro1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Grazie per la veloce risposta! Io ho sempre pensato che l'iniezione dovesse avvenire al chiuso mentre qui vedo che tutto avviene all aperto! Forte! Ma non é pericoloso? Intendo dire: i vapori della benzina non c é il rischio che vadano a toccare parti caldissime del motore e si incendino!?? Scusate ancora!!!

    • @TaketotheRoad
      @TaketotheRoad  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In questo modo è stata fatta qualche iniezione di carburante precoce. Sì, c'era il rischio di incendio causato dalla nebbia di carburante se il motore non era sintonizzato correttamente. Non era neanche troppo efficiente. Ma era ed è adatto per le corse. Un motore accordato e una tromba correttamente modellata funzionano. Scuse per il mio italiano. Sto utilizzando Google Translate 😉

    at 3:19 it looks like the cylinder head for the 1.2 16v engine used in the fiat Punto and bravo...can anyone clarify?

    • @TaketotheRoad
      @TaketotheRoad  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm trying to remember exactly as it was a while ago since I did the film and interview, plus I was going through a translator so my memory is a little sketchy. It is a 16v head as far as I know but I think it is off a Lancia with a Fiat 128 block.

    • @jarripotero
      @jarripotero 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Hugo B., that cylinder head can be from Bravo, Stilo, Marea, Multipla, Delta 2, all 1.6 16V engines (think very fews Dedras also mounted this engine) with modified camboxes with his own desing, with a removal cover to check valve clearance for example, suppose now has mechanical lifters, stock are hydraulic. Mechnical lifters with valve cap lash on top of valve stem or under bucket to get the correct clearance. I did it making "windows" in the camboxes, in the sparks side, making rectangular curved pieces of steel and 2 5x80 small bolts to secure them, with engine mount silicone. Very time consuming get the correct clearance, fit-defit the camboxes several times.

    • @MrHBSoftware
      @MrHBSoftware 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jarripotero Very good info thanks. overhere we are more familiar with the 1.2 head from punto,also bravo, stilo ,idea,etc but i guess the design is the same, seems similar to me... anyway their weak spot is the hydraulic lifters, also the aluminium casting is very soft. on a headgasket service we usually have to weld the coolant passages and reopen them because they often are rotted away. of course people dont bother using good coolant on old cars they just use tap water often

    • @jarripotero
      @jarripotero 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes a junkyard head can be cheaper (here can be 50 euro), with a good maintenance unit, good coolant used, check before removal. Using Stilo-Multipla crank in a Bravo-a, Marea, Delta, Dedra...is good for a 1.9 engine, can use this 78,4mm crank in the old SOHC engine from 128, Uno, Yugo....with 133,5 mm conrod (Scat) and 23mm heigh compression pistons for good rod-stroke ratio. There are 136mm long conrods, but not know if pistons (20mm) can be 2 rings, not clearance enough for 3 rings. Or fit a 3,5mm head gasket to raise the piston 3mm deck block and use the 23mm HC pistons said . There are 82mm stroker cranks, 8 counterweights, 40mm small big end rod diameter , to allow the rod turn into crankcase, main oil block circuit very close to rod when turning. Hope understand my "spanglish", regards from Spain.
